Nope, you're arguing the same thing as me - just mentioning different things. Those players are still unavailable to us - if GC and GWS secure other high pick players, that doesn't change the value of our picks at all - it just means they're getting those players instead of another team getting those players.
No - that's why the matched bid pick goes up and that club's later picks go down. The club that made the original bid then gets to use their pick on another player. If bids are only matched when seen appropriate purely on talent order - then if GWS and GC take McLuggage and Brodie then Bowes and Setterfield are bid on with pick 5 and are matched - that means our pick will slide down two spots as two better talents will have been taken from the list. It doesn't matter if we realistically had access to them or not - they are still top end talent that are drafted before our first pick leaving us with the 11th best player instead of the 9th.

I would be looking to trade Westhoff and Broadbent WELL before Trengove. If most of our fringe players are yielding no decent trade options, then we should be aggressive on players that will create some interest.
Sounds nice, except the clubs standard answer to 'me mates. I'm a good bloke!' is then 'Ok, stay here overpayed, luv ya mate'. Instead of 'You'll have limited opportunities, and this will then likely be your last AFL contract. If you move you'll probably get one more then if you stay at Port. If you truly love the club let's go clear out that locker together now'.

Can we please keep our only KPF in the forward line. Trengove is a great backup ruck.
Imagine if we were to offload Trengove, but keep Lobbe.......groan!!!

The only thing worse than overrated players on long-term contracts is overrated South Australian players on long-term contracts.

We can pretty well forget about the possibility of moving on Westhoff, Broadbent or Hartlett. Why any of these guys gets more than a two year deal, I'll never understand.

Expect him to bump up to 0.95G in 2017. Can't expect the whole 1G. That'll come in 2018. A year he's contracted in.

Not too dissimilar to the next McLeod.

Why the **** did we give him two years ****

There's always a temptation to go too flavour of the month on the freshly-minted premier, but if a defensive/transition forward is such a key to our fortunes, we should be looking at unearthing the Liam Pickens and Clay Smiths of the world.

Players who are actually big enough and strong enough to tackle and do other things that forwards do like 'hit the scoreboard'.

Stop me if I'm being too avant garde.

I hope we have all relaxed a little now. With all the stuff flapping around with Prestia, JOM, Gibbs and others you can see why our trades will likely wait for mid next week.

Some tense times at the moment for some clubs.

Someone like Angus Monfries?

Ken has openly stated that his "favourites" at the club are those that arrived at the same time he did. There's your answer RE: Neade.

Shooting for goal is selfish.

Schulzy should have got with the times.

Neade is great. On a hiding to nothing this year trying to cover defensively for Dixon who wasn't fit enough, Boak who wasn't suited to the role of defensive forward, Young who was only just starting to learn the defensive aspects of the game after coming on as sub for two years, Wingard who was concussed and then injured and Schulz who moved slower than a three toed sloth.

Suffered burn out during the season because of it. Wouldn't be in my best 22, but has a place as exceptional depth in the forward pressure role.

Ok so I was a tad off in my memory but I was sure there was more to it. wharfie_1870

Since I started at Port Adelaide, I've certainly developed a soft spot for our youngest players, but that's because you spend a lot of time with them early on.

You have to look after them a bit and make sure they're happy and comfortable in their new environment. Young fellas like Ollie Wines and Jake Neade and Sam Colquhoun are in that category.

He really isn't.

He's dreadfully mediocre in the truest sense of the word, which suits our post-premiership raison d'être to a tee.

And even if the assertions there were completely correct... two years.

Nah, he is for what he is. Not everyone has to be some line breaking superstar. He's great at his role.

Having good depth means you have players who can fill a hole in your side and not be a liability. Impey has surpassed him as a defensive forward, and I think our new shiny pick 9 (Taranto pls) would do the same, but I'm confident he has a place on the list as serviceable depth. A role player.
