For context, look at the history of number 1 picks.

It's all futile.

Yes, it is a lottery which is why I would have liked a trade or two to address some known weaknesses.

No we got pick 17 this year.

If we win the spoon then we've traded pick 1, 49 and 67 for 17, 30 and 31.

If we make the 8 then it's like 11, 49 and 67 for 17, 30 and 31 which looks ok to me.

Win the flag and it's 18, 48 and 67 for 17, 30 and 31 which won't happen but would look great.

Dawes is a spud, but name a better available KPF who can also go into the ruck. Desperate times.

Unless we can get in the ear of the currently uncontracted Rhys Stanley about coming back to SA, and try to grab him in the PSD? Might be difficult with our exploding celery cap though.

I'd rather Jacko play forward and pinch hit in ruck than bring in Dawes to clog the list.
Surely there is a state league player who could be worth trying?
Anyone think of an available tall forward/ruckman that would be a better bet than Dawes?

Dawes being a KPF is kinda like Lobbe being a ruck.

Would prefer to go in shallow than bring in Dawes, unlike we are talking well under 200k.

I did that too until I realised that any draft after 2010 is unrealistic as there were GCS and GWS concessions. They would have so many early picks they would select players for needs which often meant that mid forwards and ruckmen who would have gone late in the draft were taken early. And then there were academy picks who sometimes weren't bid on till late.

Eddy is a decent size, and easily one of the better SANFL KPFs getting around at the moment.

Worth a rookie spot for sure.

If we pick up Barrett and Dawes for free, we've done well and gone a long way to improving the structure of the list, with the chance to further right some wrongs in the draft.

The issue is I don't trust us to do this.

Something to offer still? He literally got traded today for a pity pick in the 90s because for some bizarre reason he was contracted for 2017 and couldn't be delisted.

Geelong clearly looking to strengthen their 3rds.
