positive or negative news.

You would think he is now elite and expectant of a similar salary, free agency would be on the horizon and how that impacts upon the length of this contract.
Wit the names being thrown around last year in trying to get the McCarthy deal over the line you have to wonder if his name was mentioned and he is unhappy about that? I would hope he stays but if he does decide he wants to go back to SA then that would give us some bargaining power to try and get Hogan over the line. Would hate to see him go as he has become a fantastic player but at the end of the day you have to give up quality to get quality and Neale's position is probably one that could be filled y the likes of Weller, Langdon, Bennell, Tucker and Balic in the future. Obviously none of the mentioned are like for like replacements but they have all showed good signs, with the exception being Balic obviously.

IIRC Haselby floated the idea and was shot down by Neale himself on twitter.

Think it is more likely that it's just agents being agents and trying to (rightly) get the best deal for their client. However I agree with your opinion re; potential bargaining for Hogan.

No, that's not it at all. Regarding Melbourne - like with any player, he has to agree to a trade for that to happen. If Hogan gets traded here, ask yourself - what does that mean for Melbourne's prospects? and would it be likely for him to accept it? Money isn't everything - and it's why having a strong culture, on field success (or at least a good plan showing progress) and off field stability is important.

Hes not fussed where he lives - so the 'go home' factors I think are wishful thinking from opposition supporters. It's more likely that he'd entertain offers from east coast top 8 clubs should things with freo break down

Would hate to lose him, hes a gun. Young as well so should have some improvement in him.

Saying that, he's a quality player. Should be able to get something decent for him if he does decide to take off.

Early 20s best 22 midfielder who's played in a GF and has finals experience should net us a decent player back. Especially if clubs are keen on him.

If Bond screws this up...

Weren't Melbourne heavily into Neale last year? We would effectively have Blakely as an immediate replacement for Neale, so I'm not worried about him leaving any holes. However, my initial preference would be to keep him.

Story will only gather pace cause a journo made something up and other journos parrot it. Would not swap neale for hooker alone. Too old

Hooker will cost us nothing he is a free agent. Tom Browne doesn't make things up, he gets his info from managers.

Managers always have am agenda to push though. Leak 'story' and push Lachies price up in negotiations perhaps?

Yes. Football clubs leak stories too. It works both ways, both are negotiating thru the media for leverage.

I reckon Lachie is having to take a pay hit to fit McCarthy and Hooker under the cap. He would easy get 750k+ at a desperate Melbourne club. Hawks, Melbourne, North and Richmond would all be fighting for him.

I think Adelaide is the dark horses here after Dangerfield went to Geelong.
