By popular request!

Looks like we have some promising academy talents again in Allison, Rolls and Watson, so it'll be interesting to see how they develop. We also have the Saints second rounder and NM's third rounder, so here's to hoping from an 18th-17th finish for those two. :p

Very possible the Saints finish bottom 4, be nice to have a couple of selections in the early 20's and stock up on some midfield talent.

Early days but Allison with our first and Rolls with our second seems likely. If we could get those 2 at around those picks, so we can get another early second round pick with the Saints pick that would be ideal. 3 more top 30 picks would be a big help.

Finding it funny how some people are saying that we are throwing the towel in because the trade and draft thread are up and running. For those who haven't noticed we are a side that is building and these are the two ways that we do this. Personally I am a bit of draft nut and like to analyse our list and look for where the holes are and then go and trawl through and identify who those possible draftees could be. I know of others that also do and I enjoy the banter around it and if you aren't that is fine but don't feel the need to criticise that do. I see a lot of the garbage that gets posted and the easiest thing is to ignore it.

Or use the Ignore button.
I do ....... and.......... I'mStillDoinFine.

It is never too early to be looking at the talent coming through. It means nothing in relation to this season, more like having an eye on the future. I am pretty sure that clubs are taking note of talent two or three years ahead at least.

with the start of future pick trading they are taking U16's very seriously

Outside run and rucks should be our priority, plus a small forward
I thought this as well looking forward but I am still worried about our contested ball. For a number of years we have been terrible at this. If I could be greedy I would like to take the best inside mid and from last year that was Will Brodie but a year is a long time I'm footy and look Oliver (who looks very good so far) from last come from nowhere. I see us around that 3-5 range and feel quite comfortable that Allison won't be needed to be taken with that pick. Berry even though he is HBF is projected to play midfield and it will be interesting to see where he plays this year in the champs, have to remember that Heppell and also Dangerfield were HBF during the Nationals. Scharenberg is from SA and as most am hesitant to even contemplate. Those are names that will be around that mark. Not sure about Allison and were he will fit position wise but he could be a mid but more outside but I know others have stated that he will end up a flanker. If someone was able to post our picks that we traded this year it would be handy to identify the possible amount of players. From memory it was one from North and also St Kilda but not sure if second round or third.

Collingwood and Melbourne have been trading in and drafting contested ball beasts the last few years. I really like Melbournes talent and I hope we try to nab a top 5 pure midfielder that excels at winning the footy. A Cripps, De goey, or one of brayshaw/petracca/oliver would complete our current midfield. Outside mids with speed, skill and a bit of XFactor would be high on the list as well, but generally they are the cream that only get taken high by clubs with a great contested ball midfield.

Who are the top few contested beasts for this draft? It seems as though the better young talent in this regard are man child's at U18 level already so I hope we don't try to do a Gold Coast and draft skinny kids and try to improve the contest game of them.

Have to agree and who would have thought that three years ago. Over that duration they have done well to build their midfield and I hope that over that duration we will do the same. We have our current midfield and as good as they are they need help and even someone to be par on their level or even better.

Probably overrated our list in the past more than anyone but looking at their list currently in terms of skill, age and balance I could totally understand them being excited. Have two extremely talented players book-ending their spine, a young, dynamic ruck who could be anything if injury issues are curtailed and a plethora of young, strong mids with great ball winning skills. If you're looking for the foundations of building a quality team not sure they could ask for a better starting point.

Yeah inside mids have certainly been a huge huge need. Considering we added Basti & Matho as inside types I wonder if they will take a inside type with our first pick. One of our recruiters was interviewed shortly after the draft and was questioned about why Matho slid. The response was along the lines that every team only ever carries about 4 pure inside mid types on their list. I guess it will be interesting to see how our midfield develops over the year when it should be our strenght. I think pressure will be on Dayne Beams to improve his inside game and Rocky & Rich as well.

If we did get a top 5 pick then it will likely pick itself with us just having to go after the best available...we cant stuff around with top 10 picks

Outside class is still the #1 need for me. What I would do for us to draft a Milera type

Just on inside mids, how's Billy Evans travelling? Does he look like he'll make the cut? Not blessed with pace it seems, but can find the footy and a clever user in close. Just not sure whether he can make the step up.
How has his pre season been? Don't think he got a run in the first nab game, surprised me a bit, considering the squad we went with.

Billy seems to go alright, for a rookie selection i think he has a pretty good game. Usually plays very strongly in the ressies and has performed pretty well at senior level as well i think.

Might be something to work with, but he might take a lil bit of time like Crisp did. Think he is worth persisting with.
