Declan Watson used to play for the Redcliffe Tigers right? Tigers have had some super young prospects the past decade but those who stay there never amount to anything... it's best if you have any talent at all to leave and join Aspley as they have better facilities/coaching and access to higher pathways. From personal experience

Would love Petrevski-Seton simply for his elite kicking skills on both his left and right foot. Am sick of Lions players inability to execute basic skills.

Probably worth mentioning that Watson is an excellent kick for a KP. He takes the kick-ins for Qld and hits his targets very nicely.

Rolls would be close to the best short to intermediate distance kick in this draft. He is elite by any standard over that distance.

Allison is a very long kick but can lack a bit of touch. He does not weight his kicks well. In fairness though I think some of the problem may also be that the other players expect the ball to be shorter and come forward to meet it only to find it going over their head.

This is so important for us. The academy seems to be producing a few kids who feel closer to natural footballers (Andrews, Keays more recently; Freeman and Dawson on their better days) with reasonable to good skills. If we can accumulate that sort of player over 5 or so years, there's (optimistically) long term hope for the club.

Always draft best talent available.

In all likelihood our second and third round picks will need to be used on our top three academy prospects. I'm interested to see where Allison, Rolls and Watson appear in the big board rankings by the end of the season. Looking forward to the Allies team being named for the Div 1 championships.

The "negative" (and it's not really a negative, it's just losing out on two bites of the cherry) will be when our top academy talent is rated at the very top of the draft or above our first draft pick, and will likely be bid on before it's our selection.

Dream scenario is holding the number one draft pick, able to select the very best the country has to offer, and knowing that the team with the second pick is going to nominate your top rated academy player, which you match the bid, so you walk away from the draft with the top two rated players.

FWIW I would currently have Watson pretty much on par with McCreadie. Both around the 10-15 mark.

Very possible that Watson will be our first academy prospect off the board the way he is playing atm. Nice height, quick with good skills and excellent intercept marking ability probably makes you are first round pick I think.

interesting, allison is rated very highly by a lot of the phantom drafters and rolls by all reports has been impressing this year along with your view of declan watson it is possible we have 3 bid on in the mid to late first round. the giants look like having 2-4 bid on in the first round as well then you add the suns with bowes some rating as a top 2-3 pick + scheer.

all hell will break loose in the AFL heartland if there are 6/7 first round picks come from the academies in the one year. you can bet your bottom dollar that the discount will be reduced or eliminated pretty quickly IMO.

Including Marshall and Himmelberg I could easily see there being 12 academy players taken in the first two rounds. The other 10 players would be:

1. Bowes
2. Mutch
3. Watson
4. McCreadie
5. Scheer
6. Settlefield
7. Rolls
8. Allison
9. Perryman
10. Sproule

Williams, Davis and Byrne also not without a chance of figuring in the reckoning.

Allison seems to be high on a lot of the BF boards due to reputation only at this stage. Think he has been falling a fair bit on his form really and likely is slipping into the teens at least. Rolls and probably Watson though would likely be climbing a fair bit

Pretty much what I have been thinking.

Does anyone have an idea of Rolls current best position and what position he projects to play in the future? From the initial reports I thought he played HBF, but it sounds like he has been played through the midfield in the Div 2 champs.

I have been reading some of the discussion about the make up of the Allies team, and at this stage it reads like Rolls coming off the interchange bench. A little disappointing when one of your top two Academy prospects can't make the the starting 18, and speaks volumes about the strength in depth of the GWS academy kids.

Also raises the question, are we over valuing our Academy kids a bit to much.

Just my opinion but I think Rolls will have a Dyson Heppell like transition to AFL. Start his career on the HBF before transitioning into the midfield

Imo Rolls will be a starting 18 HBFer who they will give some midfield time to. The Allies team is stacked in the midfield and him being able to play on a flank and do it well is an easy decision for them to pick him there. Rolls has improved his midfield work over the course of the Champs I think and is very solid in that roll. I still like him in space though where he can use his kicking ability. Off the HBF with that team around him he could excel.

Quigley and cotter101 who would you compare Declan Watson to and also where will he end up do you think position wise?

No guarantee he can do it at AFL level but at junior level he plays the game a lot like Rance does.

I was thinking Daniel Talia/Alex Rance.

He'll be a KPD. Looks slightly taller than the 194cm he is listed at too.

Where does that NT player Parfitt rank?

Sounds like Parfitt could land anywhere in the top 25 depending on how he goes in the coming months. Whoever ends up with him will have the makings of a very good player - makes good decisions and has been playing in the NTFL and SANFL as 16 year and 17 year old.

who are the players that are part of our academy that could be drafted this year
allison
rolls
watson
are those the only 3 or are there more
