When I see the speed and intensity Ainsworth plays at, as well as his great overhead ability... then measure out 2 cm with my fingers, it really doesn't seem an issue.

He has incredible midfield potential for mine as well.

Reminds me a little of Akermanis in terms of speed and intensity. Would be mad not to draft him.

Spoke to someone who played on both Ainsworth and Brodie this year in TAC Cup. He tagged Brodie and got towelled up and said he was considerably better than Ainsworth. Interesting that he found that, although he can match Ainsworth's speed quite nicely so maybe found him easier because of that.

Just food for thought.

I think tagging strong inside footballers are more difficult because they win their own footy as opposed to outside footballers who you just follow around all day.

It wasn't just that for him. Was quite emphatic in saying Brodie was just a classier player.

A quick search of Ainsworth's twitter page and more specifically which tweets he has 'liked' in the last week or so and it's pretty clear to see where he thinks he'll end up next year.
Or more accurately where he hopes to end up - given we don't have absolute control of the outcome.

Hard to argue. He's liked nothing tweets off the Lions page like Brisbanes round 1 game next year and Jed Adcock becoming an assistant here. Not exactly huge news stories. Lock him in Edward Gloria McGuire

and what exactly did he like?

All tweets since 17th October.

Makes you wonder if the top 3 (or more) could've been told or at least given a *wink wink, nudge nudge* about how things are looking at playing out.

Ainsworth will be a lion in 2017. Take it to the bank :thumbsu:

I printed the first sentence on a piece of paper and took it to my local NAB.

They looked at me and gave an almost undetectable nod. Of course, that could have been a signal to security...

Being tackled after that would give a good indication too

Anyone else think the SPS highlights video is very unimpressive. Didn't look very creative at all.

I haven't watched anything else on him, but yeah. From that one 3-4 min "highlights" video, there wasn't a lot to get excited abouto_O

Doesnt take much to get an idea of where you might land. Not to mention he would know from the interviews who have been very keen on him. Considering we have a few of his team mates here already i think he would be happy to come in knowing a few of the guys here already.

It is pretty much common knowledge in the media we are keen on him, and our pick is in the right place.

Draft Central Phantom Draft

4. Ben Ainsworth
Small Forward/Inside Midfielder (Gippsland Power/Vic Country)
10/02/1998 | 179cm | 74kg

Scouting notes: Strong overhead mark and has the ability to change a game in 10 minutes. An interupted season with injury and suspension, but has had more midfield time in recent months. Damaging inside 50 but can be a bit goal hungry at stages.

17. Alex Witherden
Medium Defender (Geelong Falcons/Vic Country)
10/09/1998 | 186cm | 80kg

Scouting notes: Rebounding defender who is usually a reliable kick. Vision is superb and moves well in traffic. Can play through the midfield and up forward. Broke his leg at school footy earlier in the season.

23. Jarrod Berry
Medium Utility (North Ballarat Rebels/Vic Country)
05/02/1998 | 191cm | 80kg

Scouting notes: Outstanding leader that can play in multiple roles. Kicking can be a bit off at times and has had a few injuries throughout 2016.

24. Cedric Cox
Outside Midfielder (North Ballarat Rebels/Vic Country)
19/08/1997 | 184cm | 70kg

Scouting notes: Neat outside midfielder who can play at both ends of the ground. Looks best suited to half-back, where he can use his speed to burn off his opponents. Is a dual footed kicker and is willing to use both his left and right foot in any situation.

42. Declan Watson
Key Position Defender (Aspley/Queensland)
17/09/1998 | 194cm | 80kg

Scouting notes: Key Position Defender that despite his body shape, is good in one-on-one situations. Kicked out throughout the Under 18 championships from full back and rebounds the ball well.

75. Jacob Allison (Aspley/Queensland)
General Forward/Outside Midfielder (Aspley/Queensland)
16/04/1998 | 194cm | 79kg

Scouting notes: Promising midfielder who showed more in his bottom age year than this year. At his size, some saw him pushing through the inside- but so far his season saw him play on the outside. For the Allies he looked most at home across half forward. Has one of the biggest kicks in the draft and can roost it from 60m.

Would be ecstatic if this happens on draft day.

Interesting, and I do recall McGrath giving him a touch up if I remember right too. But with that said AFL recruiters look at players a bit differently to the general public. Big emphasis on what attributes they have and what sort of player they can develop into. Ainsworth has a lot going for him, and in particular I don't think he is viewed as a flight risk as brodie is. In Bonts year im sure players would have said they didn't find him that challenging to play on. It is all about how you fit into a AFL system

tell me about this Alex Witherden kid? Im seeing his name linked to lions heaps but know nothing about him

He was highly rated half back with strong kicking skills and some saw midfield potential in him. Broke his leg just before the champs this year and hasn't played since. Lot of upside and we love an injured slider.

Witherden and Berry would be good, but id want a more inside type to balance those two and ainsworth.

Yeah, from a balance perspective probably a sensible idea; wouldn't mind Dylan Clarke as that last pick if we did want to add a bit of inside grunt this year but if we were to load up on skill and/or speed this draft I wouldn't mind too much.
