But leg speed and crisp disposal are. One of the goals he kicked down at Geelong was pretty damn nice. Got the ball about 70m out, burned of a chasing opponent and drilled it from 40m out. I realise that Boekhorst and Cuningham can provide this also, but need more quality players with leg speed.

Sure. I'm more hopeful of Boekhorst and Cuningham providing that outside polish than I am of finding a second clearance player on our current list to help Cripps out.

After trawling through half the games and all the stats, so far coming to the opinion that Bunker- Clarke - Taranto - Worpel - Z.Fisher are better prospects than some of the more highly rated like Venables SPP , and all those guys could be available as second rounders.
We should get a sure fired hit with our first I'd personally go Brodie - Mcluggage - Graham - Mcgrath - Ainsworth in that order, obviously the first two will probably be gone. Our first is going to be too early to take Gallucci now as well, been a big fan but he's been a little underwhelming he's probably going to be in-between our 1st and 2nd now.
Worpel is a bottom ager who won't be available until next year. But he is the goods and we should be chasing him next year.

We'll probably end up with pick 4 to 5 at this year's draft , given that the only winnable games remaining are against the Lions and Bombers and they don't look like push overs.
So pick4 should land us one of Mcluggage, McGrath or Aninsworth exciting quality on ballers and goal kickers there , looking forward to that now.
Go Baggers

AFL clubs scouting look ahead at father-son prospects as future draft picks kick in
ee893c5a56e5b11e69dd719da772efe5

JON RALPH, Herald Sun

THE sons of Scott West and Darren Crocker have emerged as potential AFL stars as one of Jack Silvagni’s two young brothers takes early steps toward becoming another Carlton father-son selection.

Riley West and Joel Crocker have made Vic Metro’s Under 16 squad to play in the national championships, starting Friday.

Both are two years away from being eligible for the draft, but clubs are actively scouting the championships, especially with the trading of future picks now requiring them to have a greater sense of the quality of upcoming drafts to ensure they do not trade away picks needed for father-son selections.

Vic Metro coach Anton Grbac described Riley West as “a chip off the old block” with Jack Viney-style aggression.

His father is one of the greats of the Western Bulldogs after 324 games and seven best-and-fairests.

Joel Crocker is an intercept-marking defender who might move into the midfield.

His father played 165 games for North Melbourne, including the 1996 premiership, and is an assistant coach at Arden St.

Grbac said clubs already were following the progress of the Under 16 metro side.

“Riley West ... is very aggressive at the contest,’’ he said.

“Joel Crocker has been injured but he is in, too, and he is very composed.

“He is very courageous and is a good size, a hybrid defender who might make a big midfielder.”

Ben Silvagni, 16, also available for the 2018 draft, will likely play school football until his final TAC Cup year.

He kicked eight goals — five in the first quarter — in a recent Xavier Year 10 game

He already is 195cm — his father is 194cm — and has an exceptional tank.

Blues list manager and all-time great Stephen Silvagni (312 games, two flags, two best-and-fairests) is extremely protective of his sons and abhors publicity about their junior development.

But with Jack, 18, likely to make his debut for Carlton any week now it seems likely the Blues will have two Silvagnis running around soon.

Ben been receiving coaching from Hawthorn premiership captain Luke Hodge, who is part of the Xavier program.

This should give permission for old SOS to get back on the horse and do what he does best.

It took Jon Ralph 3 or so years to figure out that Troy and Daniel Menzel were not the same person.

God help him if we have three Silvagnis at the club at the same time.

He'll just call of three of them SOS, just to be safe.......lol

Given our likely finish, we should be able to get our hands on one of Brodie, McCluggage, Bowes, Petrevski-Seton and Marshall.
Ainsworth, McGrath and Venebales could be in that mix, but at this stage and from what I've seen, those guys would be my top 5

I know things can and will change but it will be have to be something very special before we release our first selection for a trade.

At this stage:
#1 Brodie: Essendon. Even if they do acquire Prestia, they may be after another quality inside mid.
#2 McCluggage: Brisbane. No reason required.
#3 Marshall: Fremantle. I know they'll be getting McCarthy but should that stop them from taking Marshall? Don't think so.
#4 Bowes: Gold Coast. Possibly because Brisbane may be bold and bid for him beforehand.
#5 Petrevski-Seton: Carlton. Could we possibly pass on him for someone else. Who?

Would be pretty happy with that outcome.

Wasn't it MS3 who suggested a few months back that SOS was looking to trade our 1st round pick for two later 1st rounders?

If the top 20-30 is as even as we are lead to believe then that strategy might be best.

It's never as even as one may hope it to be. Best talent is best talent.......given best opportunity and best development.

If it was indeed so even, wouldn't everyone be playing the same game?

Harker that would be an aamazing outcome I'd be doing summersaults if we where to call out his name.
SPS is an exquisite rare talent both adept at midfiled inside work and a graceful greative outsider too.

Well, there are no guarantees but is it possible:

Essendon will look at someone to replace Watson & Stanton who will both be 31+ next year = Brodie.
Brisbane after a slick quality midfielder. They have Schache & Hipwood up front = McCluggage.
Fremantle are desperately after forwards as they have their quick and nimble midfielders = Marshall
Gold Coast goes Bowes and Petrevski-Seton comes to us.

That may well change over the next few weeks, but maybe the template has been set.
I don't see too many other intruders breaking their way into this top 5.

Would be nice if we could find players who could win clearances and give us that outside polish as well.

Would Freo pass on the WA kid though?
Also wouldn't Gold Coast pick SPS at 4 then match the bid for Bowes after?

I would honestly be shocked if tge gcs dont go above Carlton on the ladder by the end of the season.

Yes that was floated earlier in the year and I think you're right in saying it was MS3 who raised it as a possibility.

I was (and am) very much in favour of going down that path and think it would be a brilliant move for us. For a while it looked as though it may not be possible given our ladder position, but now that we've slipped back into bottom 3 or 4 territory it is certainly something that should be explored.

The expansion clubs loom as likely trade partners, given the number of first round picks they currently have and their need to accumulate points for their academy selections.

They currently have the following picks in the 2016 ND:
  • GC: 2 (GC, Melbourne)
  • GWS: 3 (GWS, Collingwood, Geelong)
Downgrade our first to two of those picks (with us adding something out the other end) and both parties could be happy.
