If he can be equally destructive as a mid & forward, eg similar to Bont, Parker, he could be the one.

I'd like to see him achieve a decent beep, 3km results at draft camp.
Good thing is we can win 3 of our next 4 games and will still likely have a good shot at getting Venables (I hope).

Venables and Clarke would be super!
Could handle that. I am a bit reticent to see us use #5 on Venables in isolation. He has perhaps the most upside
of the mooted high draft picks, but also the most risk......can he build a tank and stay involved more?
McGrath safer around the mark, but.......
..........really like Clarke, a more solid version of his brother who is promising at North. The go slow seems to be
in the area of disposal, but have seen worse from a predominantly inside player. Leftie who I see as an exceptionally
safe, bankable pick.

The two in tandem could be a good combo.

If we end up with Tom Mitchell would that change our drafting strategy, in regards to the type of mid we would want?
Can see the club trading for Mitchell to get some instant support for Cripps around the clearances.

Agree, but as everyone is saying throw a blanket over them, Clarkes hands are really great, massive extractor and a brute, perfect sidekick for Crippa, probably the best suited of this draft bar Brodie. Venables I've been on for awhile and it's for the well known Danger comparison, we don't really have a player like him and if he gets up and going it's another dimension added to our team. But as you say with Venables it's a high Risk high reward payday.

I still want Steele though, in this draft I think he'd been spoken about with Brodie and McLuggage. He is going to be a very good player and I'd be spewing if he goes elsewhere.

Doesn't seem a draft with much footskill tbh.... Something we also need desperately

They are both relevant questions re Venables. But another question is also relevant re Venables...will he be a star at AFL level or a superstar at AFL level?. He has superstar qualities in speed, power, overhead marking, good skills and importantly, big moment temperament.

Every pick is a game of chance to differing extents, but i'd be more than happy for SOS to bring him onboard with #5-6 if the draft were tomorrow.

He is a late November foal too, like Weits, Harry and Jack. Get em young, slightly underexposed and before they bloom.

I would clearly select him before McGrath.

Clarke on the other hand i'm not keen on with our 2nd.

Bolton wants footskills.

Venables and Clarke would be good no doubt but would like players with above average kicking.

If we keep a pick in the 4-6 range and 22-25 range I'd hope we get one of Ainsworth and Jonty

Recruiters back in the room as draft venue is revealed

DRAFT night is expected to revert to a more traditional format this year when the AFL takes the key off-season event to Sydney, but the League is already considering radical changes for 2017.

Last year's NAB AFL Draft in Adelaide attracted criticism after a number of changes were made to the selection process of players.

No surprise really.

Whats everyones thoughts on Josh Battle, just watched his highlights on the AFL website, looks impressive. What number would he be expected to be selected at?

15-20, I'd guess. Behind Marshall, ahead of Kerr - or so say the 'experts'.

It depends on where we see the 3 talls we picked up last draft. McKay seems like a ruck/forward upgrade on Casboult, Charlie the new Koutaman and Jack is your Andrew Walker utility?

I'd favour midfielders but if he's there at pick 23, worth considering.

(Supposedly we're picking up list cloggers Stewart and Tomlinson though)

Patrick Kerr with one of our 3rd round picks would be nice.

Let the skulduggery begin

Any good small fowards/crumbers still in the draft by our third round pick ?

Callum Twomey’s Phantom Form Guide - August edition

THE END of the season is fast approaching, which means time is running out for NAB AFL Draft prospects to show their wares.

But there's still a handful of home and away games in under-18 competitions around the country before the finals kick off, and strong late performances could shape the draft board.

Here's AFL.com.au's second Phantom Form Guide of 2016, where we have ranked the best 20 players in the draft pool.

New #1 for Twomey

Scrimshaw moving up on his rankings also. Not surprised.
Bolton finally making some ground hitting pick #20.

We could feasibly win out the season, 4 winnable games left for the blues.

If we do that it would be reasonable to think we'd then be selecting in the 8-10 range. What players would be available to us then? Or would we be better served sending that pick to the GC for O'Maera, or Sydney for Mitchell?

Personally if we end up picking in that range I wouldn't be opposed to having a crack at Jaeger. Although if we pick around 6 I'd be more inclined to keep it.
