SOS was 194cm tall... most of the power forwards he played against in the day used to max out at 193cm tall (Lockett as a prime example). So going on your requirements for height... our tall forwards should be around 2m tall and our tall defenders should be around 203cm tall?
Even today, the average height for a tall forward is around 193cm tall... so this desire for the super tall forwards smacks really of desperation rather than desire.
The height argument sounds more like a dick size competition than any sort of real metric. Just because we have an absolute freak of a footballer in Cripps, who is 194cm tall, doesn't mean that all our mids need to be the same height or even close to being the same height. And because we have Cripps at 194cm tall doesn't mean that our tall forwards all need to be in excess of 195 because our best mid could also play as a CHF in another age.
But sure... lets go down that route and have all our midfielders at 189cm+ in height and weighing in at 85+ kg in weight... your classic big bodied mid, and I can pretty much guarantee that we will have one of the slowest teams, if not the slowest, in the league... but damn everyone else will have to look up at our players while we are languishing at the bottom of the ladder for the next decade or even longer.

I know that you can never have enough good players but maybe Tomlinson is coming in, for what Battle may do.
Who knows who we may get and where, come November........but that's not going to stop as discussing/debating/arguing in the meantime.

The problem with big mids is you tend to sacrifice speed & running capacity for bulk. That's already the case with Gibbs and Cripps. I'm not a fan of adding a 3rd big mid

I think that is the worst post I have ever seen you post Sheik. We shouldn't be selecting players based on what the latest fad is, if the wheel can fully turn then we would be better off starting the new fad, than waiting for and then jumping on the bandwagon after everybody else has. Smart investors look for assets that are undervalued by the market, it is far more difficult to find bargains when you are looking for exactly the same thing as everybody else.
No doubt big bodied mids are important, we are lucky enough to have one of the best in the league, but there are far to many midfielders running around at the moment who are shorter than your desired height range who are not just flourishing but dominating for them to be overlooked.
I know that you can never have enough good players but maybe Tomlinson is coming in, for what Battle may do.

Tomlinson may come on board as a jack of all trades (and a lot cheaper than last year) rotating through the midfield and forward line as required .
Battle's name could be swapped for Kerr at our 2nd pick ... the countdown is on !!

I know Tomlinson is being talked about as another big-bodied (can we find a better term?) mid, but he just doesn't seem to attack the ball or man very hard to me. Have I missed something?
Gotta admit, I've watched a fair bit of GWS this year and Tomlinson has failed to impress me. Yep, he's a good size and got a good tank, but he never really seems to do much. And when he does do something, it's not overly outstanding. Am I missing something, or are we collectively over rating him?
If he was coming from another club under different circumstances, I wouldn't rate him much higher than a 3rd round pick based on what I've seen.

Just stirring the pot, but Ben Ainsworths numbers last weekend read as
Ben Ainsworth was prominent through the midfield for Gippsland with 20 disposals, 13 contested possessions, nine tackles, nine clearances, five inside 50s and one goal. His improving midfield play will only enhance his draft stocks and may see him feature inside the top five on draft day.

Wouldn't turn down a gun mid because they're big, just don't see the need to chase another big inside mid.if they're a fyfe or kouta i think it would be okay
IMO if we decided to pick a mid based around physical attributes we're in more need of one with elite endurance.
i just wants mids that can run, find the ball, are composed and use it to a high level
Or we could look to the Hawks or Doggies (among others) who have emphasised their no. 1 priority in recruiting as an innate ability to actually play the game. Funny how successful they've been.

have to aim high. if they can mark and go forward and kick goals that would be handy as well.
Quite like the idea of grabbing him but feel he will still be available later on in the draft.
Don't come complaining to me when we are being outbodied in the clinches and outmarked in a pack then.
