Isnt berry a rebounding defender?
Played that role last year as an under-ager. This year the plan was to move into the midfield full time but complications from shoulder surgery and missing a chunk of pre-season meant he missed games early on and then had a few niggles so started down back again but once he built up his tank he moved into the midfield for the last 4 games and was either best on or close to it and also hit the scoreboard in bunches. Have no fear he will play midfield at AFL level and can also be very productive when played forward or back. I'd best describe Jarrod as a far harder edged Brodie Smith with the same long kick.
Played midfield all year for his school also once fit.

BALLARAT Clarendon College proved too strong for Trinity College Colac, comfortably winning the Herald Sun Country Shield by 46 points.

CHAMPIONS: Ballarat Clarendon College celebrate its Herald Sun Country Shield win over Trinity College Colac. Picture: Ballarat Clarendon College

College continued its dominance in the competition, with Tuesday’s 16.6 (102) to 8.8 (56) triumph the tenth successful campaign in 11 years.

As expected, the AFL-bound midfield trio of Willem Drew, Jarrod Berry and Hugh McCluggage gave Trinity a headache from the opening bounce as Berry streamed out of the middle and hit up a target inside 50.

Their dominance was felt across the first three quarters which saw Ballarat open up a 68-point lead going into the final term.

Willem Drew was named best afield, winning a plethora of clearances along with three goals. In combination with Jarrod Berry in particular, the pair were a cut above around the stoppages and frequently broke away with ease and transitioned the ball in precise fashion in the blustery conditions. Before they sat out the final quarter on the bench.

McCluggage was one of the side’s best players, splitting his time between midfield and forward and did the bulk of his damage when the game was in the balance. Mackenzie Mayne and Joe Harrison also impressed.

Could someone please give me some info on Simpkin and whether he's a chance.

Apologies if it's already been posted and I've missed it
Seen much of Hayward ? I think he could be a boom pick in this draft forward/ mid even

I'm usually biased against the SA kids but he could have a lot of development in him and has me excited

Would be a risk at 13 though but ....

Hope we don't miss him and he turns into Fyfe

He's so clean at ground level , remarkable contested mark and vertical leap and a good dose of aggression ( despite being underdeveloped) Also a good kick

Is he back running Bicks ? I know he needed a second surgery after the first with some minor complications but thought he was almost ready to go again in next few months ?

Wouldn't be a selection the club usually makes with such a high draft pick and not sure I see it happening

The missing draft year bit is a further doubt but hey it was good enough for Lever
Pretty sure I heard might have been Twomey say he was sitting out the physical testing at the Combine, but he was back running, obviously not ready to be putting pressure on the leg.

Not filing me with confidence now.

That's completely different to Aaron Francis
He is similar in body shape , more professional , better endurance / agility mix

But Francis has him for pure elite talent no doubt ( he has most covered in that regard)

The Francis comparison was more that they could ironically both end up as forwards after being very good defenders at U18 level - but they are versatile enough to spend periods in all 3 areas of th ground over their careers

Wow just watched Powell pepper highlights.

Chalk and cheese when compared to berry.

But yeah highlights don't tell the full story and I don't claim to have seen these players play.

Powell pepper would be the one I'd take though.

Francis definitely one of the more purely talented players I've seen. Wanted him to slide to 9 real bad last year.

Have a feeling the 2015 draft will be the best in ages for top-end talent

Maybe his highlight don't do him justice.
Paige Cordona's bio from earlier this year who up until this year saw more TAC Cup games than most..

Jarrod Berry
Height: 191cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 5/2/1998
Recruited From: North Ballarat Rebels (Vic Country)
Position: Tall Defender

With an iconic ‘hunch’ over the ball, Jarrod Berry is a combative back flanker who can go one-on-one and throws his weight around. Berry is no stranger to getting physical both on and off the ball, and presents as someone who could become a full-time tall midfielder at AFL level; such is his balance, vision and poise. Berry ticks all the boxes; a strong athletic profile, acceleration that creates separation on his opponent, a good mark overhead and a tidy kick off both sides of his body that hits targets. No stranger at kicking goals from behind the paint, Berry won All Australian honours at last year’s Championships, and took out Country’s MVP at U16 level in 2014, and looks ready to take his footy to another level this year.

They are very different , Berry more consistent and Powell-Pepper has those wow moments and also makes errors

I'm liking Powell-Pepper and warming to Hayward even with our pick. If we drafted Venables I'd be stoked also that club thinks we can develop him because he has great upside also

Watch some Venables highlights. Can guarantee you'll like him if you like Powell-Pepper. He's a smarter footballer than SPP, that's for sure.

Just did.

Woud be equally happy with Venables.

Venables seems stronger over the ball and better disposal, spp seems more agile and explosive, with that amazing sidestep.

The difference between 2015 to 2016 for spp is massive though.

Reading that wouldn't thrill me either...but that's not the Jarrod Berry I've been watching in person live and up close for the last 3 years....

And on that this from Cal Twomey..

POS: Midfield/half-back, Ht 191cm, Wt 80kg, DOB 5/2/98
From North Ballarat Rebels/Vic Country

It was a good week for Berry at the combine. He was a joint winner of the beep test (level 15.1) and claimed the 3km time trial outright (9:46 minutes), and also placed in the top-10 for repeat sprints, agility, clean hands and kicking tests. It reminded everyone of his exceptional athletic qualities and how he can perform when fit after an injury-ravaged year. At 191cm, Berry can move into different areas of the ground but in time sees himself in a midfield role. His leadership qualities stand out.

Bicks what his kicking like in the open, Does he hit target or more importantly find the right target, The stuff Highlight reel don't show.
So far He a good size quick with a good endurance base, and most young kids that have leadership qualities also know the game. One thing I cannot find is his Kicking in the open or when he has time, If that OK them #13 could be a sign. :)

Can Brodie Smith kick OK??
Berry and Smith are virtual clones in every way apart from one major point of difference.....hardness/aggression...in that regard Berry I would class as a real hard nut...Brodie Smith not so much.

Read the piece above I posted from the Grand Final of the Herald Sun Country Shield Schools comp for an indication..

Agree with your point, but you use 'significant' very loosely

I agree.

Mills, Parish, Oliver, Weitering, and Gresham were the only players that had "significant" impact.

The rest were varying degrees of player 18-22

Rest were blooded, nothing more.

Hell even Oliver is pushing the significant title seeing he only played half the season. Parish was a beneficiary of a pretty unique situation as well.

Bicks who do you see as the most balanced (i.e. inside/outside) mid who will likely be available at our pick?

Venables' highlights showed he had some power and explosiveness (something with all our current mids lack).

Hayward looks a talent though.
