I wonder how many of the losing sides had no premiership players - don't think there's be many - saints in 2009/10 and 1997 and Melbourne in 2000 about the only ones I can think of
freo did and I am sure there are others

Saints had Schneider I think

Ah shit, apologies. Genuinely forgot Freo
2015 - west coast had some
2014 - Sydney yes
2013 - Freo , as you say - no
2012 - hawthorn yes
2011 - Collingwood yes
2010 - St kilda - Schneider so yes
2009 - St kilda as above yes
2008 - Geelong yes
2007 - port yes
2006 - Sydney yes
2005 - Eagles yes
2004 - Brisbane yes
2003 - Collingwood had none
2002 - Collingwood had freeborn so yes
2001 - Essendon yes
2000 - Melbourne no
1999 - Carlton yes
1998 - north yes
1997 - St kilda no

So 97 saints, 00 demons, 03 pies, 13 dockers are the only sides to play a GF without a premiership player in the side. All lost

+ neither team had any premiership players in 1996 so one of them had to win!

If we say any team without a previous premiership player (vses one with a premiership player) loses then we can actually go further back, not sure how far because my knowledge of premiership players would be a lot more limited without looking it up pre 1996 and looking up each and every player can take a while (although I guess I would only have to look up the winning side until I find a player with a premiership prior to that year)

EDIT: Did the Eagles have one in 92? they could be the last

Second Edit: alright so I looked it up and the Eagles didn't have one but neither did Geelong so again the curse could carry on, takes a while to go through the 44 players wiki especially when some players don't list achievements.

Third Edit: Seems the Collingwood team in 1990 did it without a premiership player whilst Essendon had atleast 1 in Tim Watson, A lot of the premierships before this were repeats so it could have been a while to find one if the pies weren't it. Sorry for all the edits but didn't want to multipost about the same subject

Looks like Darcy Tucker will be doing the halftime sprint. Gotta love the people on Facebook whinging that he's not quick enough like the race actually means something. Good on the young fella getting a free day out at the grand final!

After the NAB premiership, we are all about winning useless prizes.

i found an interesting stat. 2000 round 1 essendon won by the biggest margin so finished top of the ladder round 1, went on to win the premiership, 2004 round 1 port did the same won the premiership, 2008 hawks top round 1, went on to win the flag, 2012 sydney top round 1 you guessed it. Therefore going off the leap year stat as above, bulldogs will win tomorrow.

At least we can say we being apart of history cause we were the team that got flogged to setup this stat lol.

For those of you who own a Home or Away Freo guernsey, have you ever worn it on Grand Final Day, even when Freo aren't in the Grand Final?

Heck yes I have/will.
It's GF day, a football celebration - so you're entitled to wear your club colours, drink from the jug, eat 2 meat pies for lunch, put the knees into your mates at half-time hangers, do a nudie run, spew in a not so conspicuous place, and pass out before the sun sets.
It's bloody GF day fellas - get excited !!!

The stat came true so if we havent won a premiership by 2020 we just have to finish top at round 1
