So is the general perception that Patton is off limits still in tact? With Essendon claiming that pick 1 is up for trade, what sort of deal do you think is fair involving Patton if it went ahead?

There's a thread dedicated for that, but it isn't this one.

Thank you, but we do not wish to destroy our club's culture by shopping Patton in return for a pick we don't need.

We're sitting on Collingwood's first, Geelong's first, our first, Adelaide's second and out second, and there are several players with value who will probably be leaving.

If Essendon really, really want a key forward, go draft one with the #1 pick. There's one sitting there.

the guy is a numnuts.

'Nuff said.

I don't care if he has mates at Carlton - you forget the guy who's dad is Thommo's dad's dentist (or chiropractor I forget) who reckons he is off to Norf. Or all those Richmond insiders who who had first, Tyson and then Shiel heading to Tigerland. Or the Hawthorn insiders who reckon Whitfield will become a Hawk.

I've finally learned to let it all just was off me and wait to see what happens.

I do know that I don't want Gibbs.

I don't want players at all. I'm happy to dance with the ones what brung us. And to build from our academies. Bring 'em through from the juniors and keep 'em. If a Stevie J bobs up for a pack of chips, then I'd consider them but unless you got picks and points, I don't care what players you're offering.

If I could like this twice I would. Every time we recruit a player I just worry about whose gotta go.I'm kinda attached to the ones we have.

Don't disagree with any of that.

We do need to continue to infuse experience and replace experience that finishes up but you're quite right about just waiting and seeing.

Salary cap is a major issue, a bloke like Gibbs would be 550 I would imagine maybe 650 to make him leave so unless part of his salary was paid (why would Carlton do that?) it doesn't appear feasible.

I think looking at our list if anything Defence now looks quite solid. If Marchbank goes he is probably replaced by Macreadie, our small defenders are the best in the comp.

I still think we need a Lead up forward if we can't teach one of Jezza, General or Lobb to be that player....a mobile 6'1-6'2 bloke that would be a point of difference but at the moment Toby and Stevie J are kind of providing the goals. Thinking Stevie J should go around again right now as he has been unbelievable.

Other than that a good small forward/wing...WHE and Pickett should be that bloke but injuries have cursed them.

No need for much change but ambition and salary cap means it is an inevitability.

Patton could be that player. He played the style before his injuries and even now he'll pull out a great lead and get hit up several times a game... it's just that he spills the mark more often now.

Carlton would do it because we paid them draft picks to do it.

For example, imagine a deal of Gibbs for Tomlinson heads up - thats unders for Carlton. Gibbs for Tomlinson and the Geelong pick probably evens it up.

On the other side, Gibbs with half his salary paid by Carlton for Tomlinson and the much higher Collingwood pick makes you go 'hmmm'.

Im just using that as an example.

The AFL has a 'no rules' salary cap. You can frontload, mid-load and backload, as long as the club hits the salary band each year. Heck, you can even move salary money off-cap by offering coaching roles.

GWS is good at this. Its been one of the keys for how we can keep the playing group together.

.

No. 20 for the Giants should be given one last go in that role, 3 weeks in against Essendon, Carlton & Collingwood. If he doesn't fire,we know there's absolutely nowhere on the park that suits him..

Well it is is doable than Gibbs fits the profile of a bloke to bring in. He is 27 and in the best form of his career. Carlton is a waste of time for him because they will be in their next window well after he has retired. He would be a nice player to have swinging back and forth and taking pressure off our blokes getting tagged. Eventually he would make a nice general down back to take over from Heater remember Heater is on massive coin and we will struggle to retain him if he wants the same dough on his next deal (will be pretty old then anyway.

I dont think Gibbs is gettable, and Im not sure we want him - Im just using that as an example of how you can turn draft picks into cap room.

Simple question on Gibbs... Who do you drop to fit him in? Who goes out of this side to give him a game?

Anyone? Anyone?

Didn't think so.

Hopper. To be honest, Griffen too.
