Hopper. To be honest, Griffen too.
Hopper is the future. Gibbs would be short term - and when Griffen goes you have Steele waiting in the wings. I'd rather 12 years of Hopper and Steele than 4 years of Gibbs.
You asked "Who do you drop to fit him in? Who goes out of this side to give him a game?" Not "who would you delist?"
I'd take Gibbs over both of Hopper and Griffen in the team right now.

I agree Hopper is the future, but right now he is not at AFL levelHopper is the future. Gibbs would be short term - and when Griffen goes you have Steele waiting in the wings. I'd rather 12 years of Hopper and Steele than 4 years of Gibbs.
I think Deledio would be a good get ahead of Gibbs
Not likely but not impossible
Who is Craig Cameron?Perhaps due to the Craig Cameron and Wayne Campbell affect

Respectfuĺly I'd like the role of general down back was open for Davis, Bunts and Wilson to aspire to. Or maybe Wilson is better value as the whirlwind down back, until he wants to ease into retirement.Well it is is doable than Gibbs fits the profile of a bloke to bring in. He is 27 and in the best form of his career. Carlton is a waste of time for him because they will be in their next window well after he has retired. He would be a nice player to have swinging back and forth and taking pressure off our blokes getting tagged. Eventually he would make a nice general down back to take over from Heater remember Heater is on massive coin and we will struggle to retain him if he wants the same dough on his next deal (will be pretty old then anyway.
If we have $6-700k a year available to target a Gibbs/Deledio i would rather use it on long term deals for Shiel/Lobb and any others worth locking away. The teams average age and games doesnt place us in the inexperienced bracket anymore, its time to start rewarding loyalty to guys who have knocked back better offers.
100% on board with thisIf we have $6-700k a year available to target a Gibbs/Deledio i would rather use it on long term deals for Shiel/Lobb and any others worth locking away. I get your proposition and reaaonin
Yeeaah.
I have a feeling Shiel might be underpaid. The club said he was offerred a similar deal to Coniglio and Treloar. It seems unlikely to me this deal would approach what Scully, Shaw, Griffen and Greene are on.
Don't begrudge anyone mentioned their money, Treloar doesn't matter anymore.
I do think Shiel is a special case particularly from a marketing perspecrive. If your ok with us paying Folau huge dollars when it was obvious he would never be value from a football perspective ( love watching him at Fullback for the Wallabies and dont begrudge him either)
then surely there is a case to made for Shiel to get similar cash.
I watch the kids.cheering him and rhink over time he will be more value in growing the club than Folau ever was.
Fair enough opinion and concede it it at the very least deep admiration, but I will stay with my view. I tried very hard not knock or reduce other players by comparison, but you cant say what I said without some.Dont fall in love with a particular player.
Yeah, Dylan Shiel is a marvel. But with Toby Greene, we have a poor man's Leigh Matthews, and with Jeremy Cameron we have a younger Buddy who can take contested marks, and Scully does nothing but run and present and run back and tackle and run and present and run back and tackle. Then there's Haynes, and Williams, and JP. And old Cement Head. Hell, even Palmer's turned into a better than useful footballer.
I think there's a pact, and I think it's been there since 2012. And I think the members of that pact have all agreed to be paid about the same, so they can look back in fifty years and go 'I was a member of the first Giants premiership. I was also there at Blacktown, and in the back room of Rooty Hill RSL, and I was there at the G when the champagne came out.'
Shiel got paid. He'll get paid again.
If he wants the money, the way Treloar did, he'll let us know.
Until then, dont **** with the bond the Class of 2012 have established.
