I'm a bit worried that if we lose Marchbank, Tomlinson and even possibly Stewart we will be short of 'ready to go' taller players, be they KPP or utilities. The great factor in our side's success at the moment is that there are 24- 26 players realistically vying for senior spot.

Since we stopped being a developing side (where senior games had some developmental nature) and became a serious contender (where senior games are earnt or lost on performance); we need to keep up that 24-26 player group.

Respectfully, Himmelberg does not cover McCarthy; he will need another 1 - 2 years before he does that if he is good enough. Similarly, Macreadie and Sproule will not in their first year cover any loss of Marchbank, Tomlinson or Stewart. This possible dearth of KPP (especially KPD) will be possibly be exacerbated by retirements of Johnson and Patfull. Mohr is injury prone.

To compound this possible 'development gap'' is the elephant in the room, the difference in standard between the NEAFL and the AFL. We have shown it is not an insurmountable problem, but I would contend it means longer development times for our younger players, and a greater adjustment period for a player coming into the senior side to pick up the pace of the game and cement their place in the side.

They were god awful at that game. I was there and it was one of the most error riddled games I've watched. They completely lacked any real purpose going out of defence for most of the day. Now they lose Fyfe (but may have Sandi back).

You blokes will be hard pressed to lose to them.

Still haven't proved we can play in Perth though. Maybe it's the travel, maybe it's Mrs Cognilio's cooking, not sure, but we've been pretty much abysmal every time we've been over there.

sadly 2016 is the last year we will get Riverina in our catchment for the academy.

C'est la vie. Of course its short sighted, because a half dozen kids were starting to feed through each year, of which we can realistically only take 4, so there's extra to go round.

Would be madness to ship Ahern and Pickett before they've even played for us, so 4 recruits tops.

And 6 out of the Giants academy each year is a vast improvement on the 1 or 2 every other year as in the past. It will eventually be to the detriment of the Melbourne clubs.

That win and the obvious emotion of the players in singing the song with Gubby in the middle was fantastic to see.

I couldn't help but think that it was the type of win that will really help in inking some new contracts. Players will love that feeling and be keen to sign on long term and for less than market value to keep the group together.
