Yep that's the key no use drafting these players also add Setterfield and Perryman if we never play them. Palmer is a nice depth player but that's all he is.

I don't want to sound too critical here, but I watched a replay of the prelim, Palmer struck me as being a bit of a weak link during the game.

I respect him for coming over here and helping set us up.

Unfortunately IMO he's repeatedly a weak link - with his disposal and his seeming inability to play on quickly, he repeatedly stalls out our attacks when he gets the ball. I'd much rather cycle through options like M. Kennedy until we settle on someone, because we know what Palmer is and (again IMO) we know he's not compatible with our play style.

Some talk from Cal Twomey today that if Bombers take McGrath we might take English who we apparently really like.

I think so far we haven't missed a beat but if we traded so hard for a bloke we could have got for practically nothing at 7 I will lose my ****!!

Surely we've learn't our lesson that at the pointy end of yhe draft you ALWAYS go best available.

If McGrath isn't there we have to take McCluggage!
surely not! Surely we get 5 for Marchbank, Pickett, Stewart and Palmer and then select English there if we really like him. Even if McCluggage was not interested in moving interstate, we should pick Ainsworth at 2.

Happy with this ??

This is what I was talking about the other day. I understand we need Cap space, bit we are leaving ourselves very very thin in depth.

Johnson in his last year gets injured or suspended we would bring in Palmer, Steele or Pickett maybe. All gone.

If a long term injury we use Reid and Lloyd.

hell, along with the youngsters from draft 2015 even Adam Kennedy would contribute in that spot as a stop gap.

I still think we don't have enough ruck depth either. We were lucky Mummy played so many games this year

Yes - that's still an issue although I haven't heard anything re Simpson and Downie.

Stop gap we have Lobb and Patton as well.

Happy with this, especially if it helps us get 5

Palmer really was a liability in the Prelim.

We must insist on 5 if its Marchbank, Pickett, Stewart and Palmer. Its too much to give for 13
All due respect I would be dumbfounded if carlton gave up a first round pick for Marchbank, Pickett, Palmer, Stewart or whoever else you guys have had in the Neafl or medical room for the better part of two years. You traded Steele for a second rebounder, Ahern for 69 and perhaps WHE for a second rounder...I mean come on...

Also can you please link me to this Cal Twomey 'talk' if possible? I can't seem to find it anywhere!

Get ready 2 be dumbfounded than. Interesting first post and it's on the gws board.
How does one properly 'dumbfound' I wonder because if this is really happening I better get some practice. Correction, I am a Carlton supporter I guess I have had plenty of experience with being bemused in the past

First trade we have done with you guys, and it was done professionally. I know most of you won't like the pick 69 and that's purely on where he was drafted (7). i think it's a win win for both you guys clean good space out, we get a footballer that could be something but could also be bust.
Would like to organise a trade for WHE for future pick! Because f collingwood

Yeh, agree, looks like a very low pick at first glance, but he's recovering from a serious injury, so a bit of risk with it. I hope he works out ok.

SOS' drafting was more speculative as he went outside the academy based on flashes of brilliance rather than bonafide performers. Both Pickett and Ahearn were stretches at the time, with names like Wright, Duggan, Weller and Lever also in the mix. We can't judge Ahearn at 7 but Pickett at 4 was always a stretch for mine.

I think we stick to academy and nail the external draftees (especially the high picks).

I would think we'd all wish Paul all the very best in the future, to offset the bad luck he's had this past year. The very low pick represents a great bargain for North Melbourne, but the risk of a washout if he can't recover, and carrying a bit more contract $, which Norths can afford this year.

I'd probably prefer WHE to Norths rather than Collingwood, for a future pick (presuming our points are OK for what we want this year) - but it would have to be better than fourth round!

True. I guess his argument would be to get a solid core and aim to jag one or two brilliant performers out of the 'flashes of brilliance'. Too bad he didn't see anything in the Bont.

As someone said earlier, none of the guys going are our best 22 except arguably Marchbank, but it does identify an issue we have with retaining a viable second level squad who can put pressure on the first team, and take over during injury & suspension.

You would wanna think it should be better than 4th rounder ;)

Hi,

Apparently Aiden Corr is linked with the WHE trade. I was just wondering how he has gone in previous years, what are his strengths and weaknesses.

Thanks.
