Apparently one of the main things the club is talking about to possible pick 2 guys is whether they can handle hanging around for 2 years before they get a serious chance in the top grade given how strong our best 22 is, and it has been suggested one of the reasons Ainsworth liked the idea of the Lions is he would get go from rd 1. While in one interview Taranto mentioned he knows that it might take him time before he really makes his mark. That said I still think were just doing our due diligence on Taranto.

For mine Ainsworth makes the most sense, he would be the perfect foil for Jezza, General and Rory. It would allow Toby more opportunity to move around and there is a genuine doubt as to whether Dev can stay as he's on big money!

The way I am reading it, McLuggage looks to be be a flight risk?

Its weird as he is a farm boy but his farm is 3 hrs from Melbourne so i cant imagine him staying at "home".

He has said that moving from the farm to Ballarat and getting out of his comfort zone has contributed to his improvement which his mum echoed.

I guess we are mindful of another Marchbank situation as that was very costly and cost us Peter Wright.

He's from Warnambool, so Vic Country - they have less of a go home factor in general. I can't speak to him specifically.

think I read 192cm
Ok, that is good size. My guess is they'll end up trying him as a medium defender. That or deep forward. I just think it is easier to develop your game as a late comer in the back six. Putting Izzy up forward was a tough gig. Mind you, Sheeds and Choco probably thought his backgound learning League patterns and play as a play maker might have helped him more as a forward. Reality though was he was lost in the 360 degree game. I remember a preseason game laughing at some blokes at BISP coacking him from the hill. When Izzy followed their advice he was generally in the right place. When he made his own calls, he often head off in the wrong direction- running off out the back when he should have been leading up and vice versa. The boys on the hill would collectively hold their heads in their hands. Hey, but he got paid alright did our Izzy.

I notice you have 10 picks at the ND, just wondering how many players on your senior list at this moment thereby working out how many players you need to take to get to the minimum senior list size of 38.

I understand you may redraft, is it Barrett you delisted?

Scratching my head over that official list. We delisted Jake Barrett, yes, which took us down to 32 players. That gives us 8 possible spots with 6 minimum. There was an announcement that any future picks from the 2015 trade period could be carried over this year to offset changing rules midstream, but I would have expected that to give us 11 picks vice the 10 (pick 60 has been removed in the official list). I'd just like the AFL to explain its rules & decisions clearly.

The talk down here in Mexico is big on Taranto to Giants as McGrath to Dons looks a fait accompli.

I must say im warming to him. He has beautiful hands and is a super kick. Lacks a bit of agility but he is a nice height and could play a few roles.

This is such a tricky draft! Any one of McGrath, McCluggage, Ainsworth or Taranto would be great.

Taranto and Setterfield are close that's the only reason we will take Tim at 2 if you ask me it is a stupid decision but the club have been making plenty lately. You do not trade up 2 take a Taranto he is a dime a dozen type of player. This is the same reach as o'rourke was and a waste of a pick.

I get what you're saying about the trading up but at that time they probably didnt think McGrath could go pick 1.

RE Taranto like any pick he could be a bust but he could also be a point of difference. I like Ainsworth but is he just another Toby Greene? Is McCluggage necessary with the signing of Deledio?

Regardless of how we feel right now after all the draft phantom's have come out the reality is none of us know which of these guys will work and which will be busts.

Sam Petrevski-Seton probably has more raw talent then any kid, could he be another star indigenous gun or he could be ill-disciplined and end up like Yarran??.

McGrath could be an absolute jet and get a Norm Smith in a granny or he could end up a soft tissue nightmare like the last agile mid built like him Nathan Freeman.

Tim English could be Dean Cox or could be Daniel Gorringe, Scrimshaw could be Bont or Cale Morton...you just don't know...too many variables.

Taranto is unlikely to be the best player to come out of this draft based on what we have seen, but he has quick hands, is pretty adept at hitting a target, and is a big game player. Some compare him to Shaun Burgoyne but I see more Alex Fasolo/Jack Gunston.

With us likely to lose a couple of big guns next year (maybe Dev and General) through cap pressure and retirement of Stevie J we need to think of how the forward line will function.

Ainsworth is very similar to Toby Greene, McCluggage is a star and must be considered but Taranto too is probably the other guy as Perryman takes the half back flank spot and Setterfield the tall mid.

Watch his highlights, he is pretty impressive and i love the kids that star on the big days, its usually a very good sign for the future.

If we take Taranto we will look like pack of idiots (expletive edited) trading up to pick two. The only reason we have done that is for one of the Mc's.
I'd be very happy with Taranto in orange, but as you say, trading up to two to take seems naff

Emma Quayle is the best of all the draft watchers and writes well too.

Surely you guys will take whichever Mc Essendon doesn't select, both look top class and you can never have too much of that.

So your list is now at 32, reckon you will only run to 38 as your cap looks tight. So that's McGrath, Setterfield & Perryman plus three others. You appear to have enough points or selections to take the other three without going into 2017 deficit but they will be picks in the 50s or academy players matched.

By the time you get to picks in the 50s you will obviously weigh up who's available versus Barrett's ability. An interesting draft coming up but you guys are obviously sweating on draft pick sanctions which would throw a big spanner in the planning. You can bet McGuire is heavily lobbying the AFL for the sanctions!

Hey guys, sorry for the intrusion. I was wondering how many selections you guys have to make on Friday night, based on list spots, etc. I'm doing a phantom draft and need this info.

For example North has to make 4 selections because we have 4 primary list spots open. Appreciate the help!

6-8 from this draft

Was told by someone who would know (from club) that draft sanctions will be announced this week and it stinks. Also was told that the afl are bullying the club into not contesting sanctions or the academy zone will be shrunk further (that has been leaked) and quicker and that's the reason no announcement has been made on zone shrinking yet.
Watch this space.
