If this is the case will be disappointed if we don't fight this all the way otherwise the afl will hang academy access over our head when ever they want to push us in line and if the academy is going or going to be reduced we might as well have that done now so we can start planning ahead rather then the rug being pulled out from under our feet like it was done with cap and list size with next to no notice.

Agreed. We cant act like a whimpering child on this.

Time to fight as a club. Even if the riverina is thwarted(bye bye development)
Good ol AFL throwing out the baby with the bathwater

Was told by someone who would know (from club) that draft sanctions will be announced this week and it stinks. Also was told that the afl are bullying the club into not contesting sanctions or the academy zone will be shrunk further (that has been leaked) and quicker and that's the reason no announcement has been made on zone shrinking yet.

Better off fighting it regardless of long term implications, 5 days isn't long enough to re-plan a whole draft, fight it and deal with the outcome at next years draft, to not do so in the light described would allow the AFL to hold a sword at the Giant's throat long term, that can't be allowed.

I didn't read your post before making mine, but yeah, exactly

Obviously I also support Essendon. Regardless of what your opinion on the saga is, I think it is clear the AFL is run by pigs and calmly black mail any entity that works below it.

A fear mongering company.

That's unfair ... to pigs. Fine noble creatures.

I too hope that GWS fights this. Can't be forever beholden to AFL house and dipping our head to their every demand. They will just keep using the academy zone against us, so make a stand now and damn the consequences.

Guys, sorry if you've been asked this a thousand times, but just out of curiosity - what is the highest bid that you think you'll match for Setterfield? I'm confident we won't bid at 1, and I can't see Brisbane or GC playing silly buggers at 3 or 4, but I've seen one or two phantoms where he slides as far as 10 or the low teens. Would've thought a bid at 6-10 would be sure to be matched by you (whether or not you have picks stripped), and that's not to say there wouldn't be genuine interest there anyway.

Anything below our pick 2, he is a priority.

Thinking bid comes either at 5 or possibly from Swans

I reckon 5 or later would be matched. Higher than that seems a stretch.

Its too late, would be ridiculous if that happened in the week leading to the draft. Takes all the gloss away from the event itself.

There is a process. The club would first need to be charged and I assume would have a right to appeal before the Commission. The Commission would have to arrange an extraordinary meeting for this to take place before Friday and I doubt there is time

Carlton were stripped the night before their draft night so I guess that is still there but I don't think the AFL would want that before the draft as this case is not as clear cut and they do not want anything negative to take away from the positive publicity the draft brings. Just my opinion.

I reckon mcclaugage will go pick one, and McGrath pick 2. But if McGrath happens to be taken by the bombers by pick 1.
We surely would have to take mcclauage best available, his a roles Royce moves and plays like Scott Pendlebury in traffic. 25 goals for the year for north Ballarat. impacts the score board is just dominant.
Ainsworth looks good as well good small forward for us. Compared to Jamie Elliot
And Taranto looks like a gun midfielder/ half forward and impacts on big games.
him and mccaluage are kind of the same midfielders who kick goals. both look like good choices, but can't go past the class of mccaluage tho
Pick 2 McGrath or mccaluage
then will setterfield
Harry perryman good draft either way

Reckon -

Taranto/Setterfield/Perryman/Cumming/Macreadie look the selections

I dont think McCluggage is in the picture.

If Cumming spends 2 years in the Neafl where does he find a spot in the team? Haynes appears pretty happy at the club and is close to best in the comp in that third defender role, I hope Adam Kennendy plays out his career here, he's popular in the group and is a good thereabouts player. If Cumming is bid inside the top 30 I dont see the point, I'd rather get Sproule with that pick.

Sproule, garthwaite and macreadie are all must gets for me. We lost a lot of tall depth and I'm not sold on corr

Yeah I dont get the idea that Macreadie will be let go, I read Emma Quayle wrote something like that late last week, but it just makes no sense. I feel like he has been hidden a bit this year by moving to Sydney and playing neafl. He has all the tools to be an absolute steal judging by some of the journo ratings. Garthwaite could be a cheaper version of Cumming if we feel that role is a need.

I think someone would have to bid really high on Macreadie for us not to pick him. Losing Marchbank means we're down a KPD and I can't see us passing unless we couldn't afford him. The fact he's been in Sydney means we're more likely to have him than not.
