It's actually somewhat surprising to see just how well most of the new guys have settled in.
Credit to Bolton and co (and the club as a whole) to make everyone feel welcome........something that may not have been afforded to all last year.

Bolts has brought a great culture with him.

We're a happy team at Haw.......Carlton....

I haven't seen that much yet to suggest Lamb's a monty for a starting spot.
He does get around pretty well and seems to be having a good time with his new team-mates.

I'll defer to your track-watching skills :)

My point is that we have such a dearth of small/medium half forward options that if any of Wright, Lamb, Kerridge, Cuningham, Gallucci or Sumner show the slightest bit of talent and application during the preseason cup then they're a good chance to debut in round 1.

Somewhere between serviceable and good would be an awesome outcome to get from Gorringe/Lamb/Sumner - maybe Plowman at this stage has everyone more convinced about potential. If Gorringe can get up and about and slot into a forward tall flanker role - it would be a fantastic outcome - Jones looks like he will never have the endurance to use his burst speed athletic capabilities - such a shame for him and Carlton.

Lamb/Tutt//Cuningham/Smith/Kerridge/Boekhurst - and who knows who else Bolton might try - will all be possible running HFF pocket types - we need 2-3 of them to step up. Gorringe/Casboult/Everitt/Phillips - with McKay and Curnow developing may all work out to be more serviceable and functional than anyone can predict - this is where coaches earn their money making something work out of nothing much.

Easy to knock the blokes we have - but I think last years on field performance is largely irrelevant - given new coach and pretty much new list.

I'm optimistic based on much more potential class on board - maybe teh long road back to replacing genuine match winners in Eddie and Jeff is well underway - and we all get positive surprises in 2016.

Jed Lamb seems to be one of those eternal **** teases. Has the talent and the ability but has never put it together. I've heard from somewhat reasonable sources that he didn't exactly do himself the greatest of services when he first joined GWS in getting himself among the boys. This may have had something to do with the fact that it was a move from the Swans to GWS rather than a move to a new city.

He's someone I think we need to have some faith in SOS with. He wouldn't have picked him up had he not had any belief in him. I disagree vehemently that GWS forced us to take him. Like Gorringe, however, it's almost a now or never type situation and I have a feeling both will respond well to completely new environments.

I'll counter Harks, who admittedly is more informed, and suggest that Lamb has always been the type of player who is more likely to look the goods in a real game situation than on the track. Small and mid sized forwards often are. What that means is that I'm not going to be overly critical of what people write about him on the track until we've seen him in the preseason competition. If, however, Harker is right and he gets overlooked early then that has to be massive red flags because he's someone with the natural talent that should be a walk up start in a team crying out for the type of impact he could (should) provide. Take it from there.

there is a lot of talk that O'Meara wanting to move to Melbourne, he has a house there and his girlfriend lives there. From what I read he would want a 10 year, $8 million deal (he's 21 and I think is a fair deal) and GC would want 2 first round draft picks.

Do you think that he would help our reset or is the price to high and we are better of drafting young kids?

I am not as big a fan of Jaeger as many others seem to be.

Obviously he's a very good young footballer but for mine he is a long way short of the quality so many seem to associate with him.

IMO we'd be completely mental to go anywhere near him at that price. Let someone else overpay for him.

Too long, too much, too much.

Objectively would do 5 years at plenty given new TV rights deal. Depends on list mgt philosophy.

Trade: would entertain something that involved us swapping 1st rounders with GCS, (ie a downgrade for us from 1 to say 7 with some lovely steak knives like Everitt).

If he really wants to come home, and to Carlton - that should do it.

Effectively 1 & Everitt for 7 & O'Meara.

Side note: If we were so inclined 7 could be used for Wines or part of a trade with GWS for Tomlinson.

If someone is willing to give Jags that type of contract with his knee issues I'd wish them luck and hope it wasn't us. I'd personally give him a three year contract in the $400-500k range and if he is a major component of what brings us on field success then he'll have earned the monster contract over a shorter period of time. No monster contracts at our club and especially not to someone from another club with red flags regardless of the talent level.

There's a part of me that genuinely fears what ramifications giving Tom Boyd that exorbitant contract will do for the Dogs over the next two or three years. They've signed some of their young guns already and good on them but at some point it may end up costing them a player or two. I really don't want Carlton to become victim to overpaying someone from another club and have our own players demand similar wages.

So Vic clubs now get an academy.

Doesn't sound like all kids from your region qualify, but it's more to.

Sounds great. Carlton got Northern Melbourne

Edit: Any good kids at Northern Knights that would meet the criteria?

Gut reaction says this is a can of worms / not needed.

* Clubs could get very different output from their regions
* Drafts will be further compromised
* Could hurt equalisation as rich clubs can afford to nurture so much more talent

Admittedly development is probably more important than pure regional luck, but still it doesn't sit right.

I'd love to know how many indigenous players have come from the Northern Knights.

Can't be more than a couple, surely.

One of the few clubs that doesn't even have a single tribe recognized by the AFL in its region.

I have a huge problem with the AFL handing out NT zones. With the right funding and effort those will be goldmines that will change the face of the AFL for years to come.

There'll be limited prospects & I don't think it's a huge discount via academy (assuming they adjust the system to give more value to first round picks). It should benefit the kids & can really help the club if they do it right.

Carlton got shafted as per usual.
It's a fairly multicultural area though right?

Depends on what they consider diverse backgrounds.... Twenty years ago it would have been a boon but nowadays your diverse multicultural backgrounds are loaded full of kids whose parents were either born and raised or at least raised in Australia. There still isn't very many Lin Jong's in the junior football system and again a lot of them are second gen Australian's.

Yeah it really depends where they draw the line. If they can draw a line without coming across poorly.

Might just come down to how they self identify but that's open to being abused

Yep seems fair :straining:
