Really strange how his dropped off. Said he wanted to improve the forward pressure part of his game in the pre season and his pressure acts numbers have been pretty high this year IIRC.
But the other parts of his game have really dropped off. He was getting good possession numbers, winning clearances and regularly hitting the scoreboard last year.
Was also racking up big numbers when he played in the VFL last year.
Something's not right could be his carrying an injury or his just out of form.
Think he may have some currency at another club, just doesn't seem to be in Bolton's plans.
Probably due to lack of consecutive games since round 4.

After watching Barlow I feel Graham plays the same way, ball winner with no pace so wondering if Graham could play as a tagger? Releases curnow aswell as provides another ball winner who can negate, he can run all day

Curnow has been released this year.

Results have been sensational.

Taggers need a bit of run otherwise they're almost useless.

I don't think so - no-one leaves NB games talking about DVR.

Thats a good point.
And the position he plays at HB is one part of the ground that we have covered quite well. I had hoped he might have been a Kade Simpson replacement, but Byrne and others have gone past him.

Not seen him play but I would like another left footer to replace Kade when the time comes if the quality is there.

Graham is far and away better than Whiley. Can hit the scoreboard and a target. Why move Puss on? We have zero depth in his position and he's at worst a serviceable inclusion to the 22.
He presumably has trade value elsewhere, and I disagree about where he sits in terms of any depth chart. If you look at it from the perspective of genuine midfielders, Boekhorst, Murphy and Cuningham aren't currently in the senior team, and there's a decent case to be made for DVR and Buckley, with Charlie Curnow an outside possibility.

In terms of clearance players, I think they're both at the bottom of a pile we're looking to improve. They don't seem to have enough AFL qualities unfortunately, but I also prefer Graham over Whiley, and perhaps if Graham has no trade value we can sign him up for another year as we replenish our midfield stocks.

Can't believe I'm reading that people want to delist Graham. At worst he's a gun VFL player that helps the quality of our VFL side. A good VFL side is one of the keys to success.
That sounds like a great reason to sign him to the Northern Blues, not the AFL list.

I suspect that might have been the thinking when we recruited DVR. A good kicking left footer like Birchall. Looks like he just hasn't developed as we all thought he might. However, the club might view him as a long term prospect and be happy to hang onto him for another year if they decide that they can't get anything better in the latter stages of the draft.

I'd be disappointed if we let Clem or Rainbow go. Only a few months under Bolton and we can't afford to keep letting our youth go for nothing. Other clubs back in their young mids while we play them on flanks before throwing them away.

Must be a development issue if our only hit from a national draft in the last few years is Cripps.

My current player outs would be
Delisted:
Foster, Whiley, Dick, Tutt, Jones
Retired:
Jamison, Walker
Rookie Upgrade:
Byrne, Sheehan
Rookie Delist:
Wood and maybe Gowers

7 players I feel are definite outs, that's enough

The risk with DVR was his fitness base and his ability to nail that, we seemed to back his testing rather than his body of work.

It was the same risk with Foster and Smith. They've all improved but for something so fundamental and easy to address, they've really not made strides. Their ethic and capacity to grow their game outside of that is clear to be seen, particularly this year.

Would Gowers be delisted before DVR and Smith?

im a graham fan but hes not being played when we lack midfield talent. what is the reason? only bolton and the coaches would know. i hope its a development reason and he stays but given hes not playing it wouldnt surprise me if he goes.

Other clubs don't have to enter a major three-year rebuild to repair a decade of poor recruiting choices.

Smith & Rainbow have hardly fired a shot between them so they have to make room for players who will.

It's a simple equation, if you want to stay in the bottom half of the ladder, just keep the playing list we already have. If you want premiership success, the list has to be turned over savagely.

Smith had a terrific pre-season and Rainbow a good start to the year.
Some clubs hang on to players and develop them properly and some just let the young guys go at a much shorter notice.
Bothe the aforementioned boys have some genuine AFL traits, but also flaws in their games.

This will be SOS's & Boltons team and they have to get the mix right but shouldn't be looking at those that have had little chance before the ones that have had plenty. I'd like them both to stay...but it's not up to me. :)

totally agree. tough decisions need to be made so we can move forward. i had hopes for smith after watching him in pre season but has been very disappointing. rainbow is not even close.

In a lot of Fraser's weekly comments, he has said DVR has had clean disposal, why not throw I'm in the guts for a decent spell, doesn't seem to be they way he disposes it ,it's just the amount of ball he gets?

But because we haven't seen Whiley he's a better option? Nick is stuck around that 22-25th player selected where he get picked as emergency enough to miss VFL games and the lack of consistent games has hurt him.

Whiley has been injured

Would Gowers be delisted before DVR and Smith?
Gowers is a rookie and is starting to show good signs in his development. Smith has gone backwards in the last year and a half. He is slowly getting things back to where he was when he joined us. But being taken with pick 60 meant that he was always going to be a speculative type of player. If he turned out good then we had a serious win, if he failed, we lost a late pick.

i have seen him a number of times. when he has it he looks really good. issue is he doesnt know how to find the ball.big problem if you want to play in the afl

Graham barely accountable for his opponents in situations when we don't have the ball - wouldn't know the first thing about tagging.

Not a long list but Birchall isn't a great defender and doesn't win his own ball. Suckling much the same. Malceski. Would like to see him get an opportunity...may do better with AFL zoning, VFL is still like under 9s with 20 odd on ballers.

I believe they've given him spells without much success.
