Funny thing is both our premiership years we had the best percentage and the best defence in both years.
I think if you include our finals wins we were 1 ahead of all teams or at least equal.

Thing we didn't do is beat those top 4 teams during the minor rounds in both years but defeated them in the finals.

Will be a bit similar this year if we did end up going all the way.

Yeah if you look at Squiggle

https://maxbarry.com/squiggle/#

in 1997 we were a little off the region of the other winners (centroid) but not by much.
1998 we were pretty similar to the other winners.
2009 Geelong clearly did not deserve theirs, or 2005 Swans!

Well, that's the biggest 4-goal win I've seen for some time! Nic-Nat was a beast and I am forced to admit I was wrong about Jetta: that's the best game I've seen him play for years. His harassment and speed tackling was Charlie-like. Yeo did his best to gift it away, though. Cyril, Mitchell, Frawley and many others were non-events. God that Hodge is a campaigner, but he was cowed by the end. There were a few freekickHawthorns, but, on the whole, Hawthorn's continuous whinging to the umpires didn't have the desired effect.

One good game by Jetta doesn't necessarily mean that you are wrong

No doubt Jetta has speed and talent and he should be one of the Eagles most damaging players especially at Subi however his performances this year and even over his last 2 seasons at Sydney has been poor

Unconfirmed but doesn't look good and it was about 5 minutes after it looked liked Ceglar did his.

Sad for both players

Nic Nat is a huge loss for the Eagles, no doubt that their absolute best footy this year is when he is playing and they have struggled especially away from home when he has been out of the team.

22 degrees with no cloud cover is forecast for Brisbane on Sunday.

One of those days that if they were a bit better they would catch some teams out in the heat. Cats should still win but could be a sapping day and not some massive win that gives percentage

What I still find funny about Sando complaining about the heat in Brisbane, we demolished BL that day, despite the heat. I'm sure Chris Scott will be having a word with the AFL rather than reporters at the presser.

Should wear Geelong out for Melbourne

Absolutely! However, I was wrong in the sense that I expected more of the same from him in this match, but he contributed positively, rather than negatively, to the performance. I think it was clear that he had a rocket up his arrass before this match!

They never learn ....
If our best 15 to 18 players average 20 games a year ie in form and not injured, most of these guys have played 100-200 games now, no more tricky dicky game plan, put on some size, add a player or two each year then I reckon we can make 4th in 2018, maybe even get there with some luck in 2017, and then get a flag the following year

Let's see how this depth copes tonight, eh, before we start claiming the 2018 flag

I think its his ACL. He is very top heavy which means it won't take a lot for him to put pressure on his legs and joints especially in an athlete who relies on a jumping game. I hope its just the medial but I don't think so, not on a sideways movement.

They are kidding themselves if they think they could get within 80 points of GWS in the coming years. I am not confident we can even go with GWS in the coming years and we have a good squad. Gold Coast is going to be another smokey with a lot of talent that will rise quickly in an injury free year.

Geez losing Nic Nat to an ACL would be absolutely devastating! Puts him out for this finals series and would be seriously underdone leading into next September, a seriously shit position to be in.

Can't think of a player who is more important to a team's flag hope bar maybe Buddy. It's probably a blight on Eagles that one player can be so important, but it is devastating nonetheless.

Would be like us losing someone like Betts right now:'( *touch wood*

Hibberd pulling the pin on Essendon. Will be a great get but can't see us in the market plus Essendon would want our 2 x 1st rounders

This may provide a bit of a laugh for some.

I have a good friend who is a Port supporter who I was discussing the showdown and our finals chances with a few days back,. Great bloke and friend, but these are some of things he came out with (and no he was not trolling me, this was a genuine convo).

- None of our players are actually THAT good. Apparently all 22 players are playing out of their skin and next year we won't be as good as injuries will strike and players will return to being their normal, mediocre selves. Despite the fact that (arguably) the three biggest passengers we have had most of the year have been our oldest players (Thommo/Douglas/Mackay), supposedly there is no room for improvement next year, but we should still finish 7-8. Tried so hard not to lol. I mean we've had a good run with injuries and players have lifted in the absence of Danger, but we still have so many young players with plenty of scope for improvement, while also maintaining more than capable depth if injuries do strike.

- Douglas is CURRENTLY one of our best players and a player that every coach would LOVE to have in their side. Is a smart footballer (yes) and does everything you want as a coach (every coach wants their players to stack it constantly?). Supposedly Douglas plays like, and reminds him a lot of Nathan Krakouer, and that those 2 are equal on ability:drunk::drunk::drunk: lol wot....

- Charlie Cameron is a terrible player and the worst player in our current 22. Is okay offensively, but does nothing defensively and applies next to zero forward pressure....... LOL WOT!

- Apparently Port still definitely have the "cattle" to win a flag, they just need to get their "structures" right. That's all that's needed apparently guys!!! All the pieces are there, they just need to rotate a few 90 degrees and move a few around and everything should click into place.

Look, I don't come on here to purposefully lambast them and call all PAPs idiots. A good rivalry is healthy and I'm happy to discuss differing opinions with a supporter of any team. But shit like that? That just makes me want to pull my hair trying to think how they even come to these conclusions in the first place...

I love how just because they broke down with injuries after a blessed run, we are bound to do the same...
