Anyone ever heard of the concept of "defence"? Players who don't play the defensive side of the game (eg. Harvey), are never the best player at their club. He might do the flashy offensive things, but he's a liability for the team defensively.

I understand the reasoning. No doubt the players had to be culled, that is the business when you have that many over-agers. The way they did it? I dunno.

Harvey should have come out and said - "This might be my last game in Victoria as I'm hanging up the boots at the end of this season."

Maybe they gave him that opportunity? What if they did and he said "I want to go on next year"? Jeez, that creates a real sh!tstorm. So he plays his last few games for the club feeling ripped off?

I think the best way to handle it would be to not say anything and deny the fans a "farewell game". Then cull them at the end of the season.
They absolutely fluffed this. Sending out a tweet is reserved for rookies being culled after a couple of seasons, not champions of your club, and especially not Brent Harvey. David King is right, if they had made this decision a few weeks ago, just wait until the end of the season. The Harvey decision is wrong anyway, he should be playing on next year. All of them at least deserved to go out on their terms, this is a mess.

Bit of tension there between sellers and bomber?
There seems to be a bit of tension between Sellers and everybody on that show lol (except Gerard). He has it out with David King regularly. I think it's because Sellers calls it like it is and pulls no punches. I like Sellers.

ESSENDON'S ability to retain top-up players looks set to be made more straightforward with the AFL likely to soften its rules around re-listing its replacements.

The League had originally ruled that the 10 players Essendon signed to short-term contracts at the start of this year could only stay at the club if they were re-drafted.

However, AFL.com.au understands after a push and submission from the AFL Players' Association, the League has looked over its free agency rules and found that because the 10 players will need to be delisted to leave Essendon's list, they should qualify as delisted free agents.

That would allow Essendon – and any other clubs interested in any of the top-ups – to sign them as delisted free agents and not be required to wait until November's national, rookie or pre-season draft to add them to a list
