As a political issue, I just don't want Australian society to go too far down the blurred lines path. Politicians harp on about flexibility, flexibility, flexibility but look where we are today. A large portion of Australians now can't find work, don't work enough or work with no benefits. Ultimately, dollars are necessary and fun but people are the purpose of having a human community. People matter more than all the other considerations. That idea of giving all Australians a pay rise but abolishing all penalty rates ... sounds like a dystopia to me. Call me old fashioned.

Still think that Good Friday footy is perfectly ok though.

Good Friday has a bit of a different feel to Christmas. It is very much a religious holiday so unless you are religious it really is just part of a 4 day escape for a lot of families. I am ok with Good Friday footy for that reason.

Think this captures the thinking of a lot of people, as it relates to Football reporting ......trouble is, if it's about being first with the news versus any truth in the article ? .......how can Rucci get both the speed AND accuracy so wrong??

Its his style. He dictates to clubs that he will write a story about a rumour with no facts, just his version of the 'truth' unless he is told what he wants to hear. To escape liable laws he uses a inferring technique where his articles contain what he wants to say in a manner that is damaging but no one can actually quote what he wrote to use against him. You only have to hear him 5AA to hear him smack down people that inferred the article the 'wrong way'. This is why he is on the outer with clubs.

I noticed that as well. My mind boggled on how they could seriously still include him on that list. I certainly wont be watching the channel while his games are being shown.

All you have to look at is who is in charge of Fox Footy - one of the top Essendon coterie members and a close personal friend of James Hird.

Didn't Lance Armstrong keep all his Yellow Jerseys and proudly boast over Twitter how he is keeping them.

Displayed on his wall no less

A way of advertising and validating your sh*tn**s.
Hey everyone look at this, if it wasn't for the illegal help I probably wouldn't have any of these....how bad good am I.

It doesn't mean much once it's erased from the records. That's the biggie

That said, does anyone believe he misplaced it?
Happens all the time with the most prestigious individual award in a national sporting competition...

This power debacle - more expensive and less reliable- is perhaps the ultimate symbol of the downfall of my beloved South Australia.
I'm actually beginning to "get" why we are close to being the laughing stock of the country.
When Rowan Dean starts taking the piss, we know we're in strife!

all but the bottom 5% of the field if not everyone would have been doping. Wouldn't make any sense to try and award the jerseys to the next best finisher.

From memory there are only 2 riders who finished in the top-10 in the TDF, in the Armstrong years, who have not been implicated in doping scandals. Cadel Evans is one of them, I can't remember who the other rider is. I'm not naive enough to think that Evans was clean, he just never got caught.

The UCI was 100% correct in simply voiding those victories, and never awarding them to another rider.

However, that doesn't mean that Armstrong shouldn't have been forced to return the yellow jerseys he had/has in his possession.

One could also argue that penalty rates are not business owner friendly, hence why Liberal governments always try to do away with them !!
cutting penalty rates would certainly suit any government better than cutting any taxes that's for sure.

At risk of derailing the thread, and I can't generalise, but surely not everyone who works night shifts thinks it's the best thing ever. It's often out of necessity. I think the kid who hands me my hot chips at Adelaide Oval should be monetarily compensated for the fact that he might have really wanted to go out with his mates or even attend the game as a spectator. When someone works 'normal hours', the extra family time is arguably a 'substitute' for the lower pay.

Apart from the time they spend at the clubs on weekdays, AFL players certainly work odd hours if you think about it.

I think the kids who hand me my hot chips at Adelaide oval should get down on their *%^&$ing knees and thank me for paying the excruciatingly high prices (for entry to the ground and for the not so hot soggy chips that they've coughed and sneezed all over) just so they can have a job to earn money to pay for their designer clothes and smart phone and the latest X-box. They should be thankful for the opportunity to learn some kind of work ethics and get paid for it at the same time, and not be thinking about double or triple time pay because the work is on a weekend.

Kids of today! Luxury I tells ya! Luxury!

Ungrateful-know-it-all-expect-it-all-for-next-to-nothing-lazy-nose-picking-ingrates! Did I mention ungrateful?

Both days are obviously extremely religious. Seperating them on that basis isn't reasonable. The primary difference between the 2 days is that historically there's been sweet FA to do on good Friday because everything was closed but it wasn't a day where extended families would get together, whereas Xmas day has always been busy because families all get together. The simple reality is that you're effectively saying, "look, I'd like a bit more to do on good Friday, but I can't really see any more available took on Xmas day, so let's leave it alone"

I hope this is satire.

Think about how much money those items will go for at an auction as collectors items. Moreso because they are now infamous pieces.
Thought the same thing ......BS that the Brownlow is lost

I expect he misplaced it in a very prominent position near his front door in a lovely framed box.
And invites Gil to his house and says what the **** are you going to do about it Gil.
How about a beer.

So the family orientated can get their share of the premium on the shifts they don't want to do? I'm obviously missing a critical piece of context here.
Supply and demand. If you don't want to work bad shifts, get re-educated and get a different job because there's someone out there who will do the job without the penalty rates.
