i wonder if it is a Port thing or across the league as a whole.

Given the past two years I would not be hanging my hat on something Port are doing. The industry has gone past them in terms of player development and recovery.

Interesting watching this video and seeing the emphasis on sleep recovery used by us not only last year but again this year.

Also somewhat amusing seeing Rat wearing Adidas shoes, but getting his sponsored Puma boots lol.

pfft. How often does a player sleep during a game of footy.

Say what you want about Port posters, but nothing bonds all of us on here together regardless of ongoing feuds, when they post their bs that they are spoon fed by their Club.:p

To Janus I say thank you for your bs over the last 24 hours. Highly entertaining.:thumbsu:

What I find truly amazing is Janus' ability to reconcile his view that Port does so much so well with the reality of them playing in only two finals series in nine years. It's so amazing I honestly have trouble believing he's serious.
The beauty is he is absolutely serious...

We weren't like this under Trigg, were we? Going on the Port board giving it large about our website hits?

Janus - Is any of Port's training timed or monitored using GPS's...with or without football's?

It would be unusual for this not to be the case as difficult to monitor players' performances & workloads otherwise...

Since they've got the GPS system set up for the few guys that went over to China, I would say so.

In case you missed it, my initial response was a reply to Geoffa who was talking about how we don't work hard in preseason because we were too busy promoting China. I didn't come here to post about how much better we do it, or how we do it different - just to explain what was happening in terms of the direction our preseason was going.

Then it became some round of semantic stupidity where a line about how we didn't do a time trial - which has always meant a distance of 2-3km in football circles - meant that we didn't monitor times for running or fitness at all.

When European soccer coaches first came to the A-League, they wondered what the **** the players were doing when they did a preseason of purely running and weight work. They couldn't understand why you would waste so much time doing things that had zero relation to what happened on the field. Instead, they promoted the idea that everything should be done to maximize the amount of time spent with the ball, with running and fitness incorporated into the drills themselves, so that the players could develop functional strength and endurance to run out games and more importantly, so the body could adapt to the stop-start rigors of the game.

As I said - 3km runs would have been great when there was a limited interchange and players had to spend most of the game on the field. It's not how it's played today, so therefore they have become redundant.

I was expecting to see your use of sensory deprivation tanks to aid in recovery - one of the things that Burton has emphasized and that Burgess has stated that he is interested in pursuing at Port.

What I saw instead was nap time at kindergarten.

Cutting edge :D

Hey Janus, it's good to see Port finally catching up, this is us in 2012, where our running component changed to repeat effort and speed work.

Do you think we are like 2012?

As for confidence, do you still have faith in Janus?
Nah, actually I think it's a clean slate. Both teams have equal chance this year.
I always enjoy Janus posts. Yes I have faith.
