A "best 22" of this draft:

B: Tom Stewart - Griffin Logue - Jordan Ridley
HB: Jack Bowes - Brennan Cox - Luke Ryan
C: Hugh McCluggage - Tim Taranto - Brandon Parfitt
HF: Shai Bolton - Todd Marshall - Josh Daicos
F: Tim English - Nick Larkey - Cameron Zurhaar
R: Sean Darcy - Jarrod Berry - Andrew McGrath
I: Jack Scrimshaw - Oliver Florent - Jy Simpkin - Harry Perryman

Isaac Cumming rising through the rankings quickly though.

Not sure if you missed them because they're all rookies but R Marshall has been top 3 in a B&F and would have to be selected ahead of either T Marshall or English. Plenty of competition for those forward/ruck roles with McInerney, Draper, Ratugolea playing good footy as well as all those named already.

Henry would be sitting 2nd or 3rd in Geelong's B&F right now after a top 10 last year and has clearly been a better key defender than either Logue or Cox.

O'Connor finished 9th in Geelong's B&F last year, has impressed shifting into midfield this year, is in our leadership group and that team has no shut down defender or tagger. Surely he's outperformed Bowes, Perryman and Scrimshaw over his career.

Bolton is a good player and 20 & 1 isn't an easy thing to achieve, it looks like there'd be heaps of players covering that line, but there's not.

There's 4 players in the league that currently cover it (Bont, Petracca, Martin & Bolton), so it's a good criteria for some of the most damaging midfielders in the game. There's really no half forward that has the motor to get it 20+ times across a season and still kick 1+ goals a game.

Funnily enough, Jaidyn Stephenson is about to become the 5th player in the league to average it this year, he needs a single disposal, it would be interesting to see where Richmond fans rate him vs Bolton, as it's a good litmus test for their bias given they are quite similar statistically.

Tarryn Thomas & Zac Baily are not far off either.

After owning Bolton in Supercoach for the last 5 weeks I'm off the train. Watching him closely and he's so frustrating, has all the talent in the world but looks like he barely wants to get out of 1st gear. With Dusty and Prestia out he has the opportunity to make the #1 mid role his, looked like he didn't want to be there yesterday. Hope he fixes his attitude because he's too talented to let it go to waste.

I think Bolton is more of a cream on cake sort of player. Needs others to complement his strengths and that's when he can be a game-changer. Sam Walsh the opposite, has gone from strength to strength in a depleted Carlton midfield but Bolton has dropped off in a similar scenario.

Agree and why I wouldn't swap Simpkin for Bolton.

We lost our best mid - Cunnington - 2 weeks ago and Simpkin was our best player and received coaches votes.

Simpkin is in amazing form and been huge since the bye - going head to head with Walsh on the weekend and beating him shows how good he now is.

just browsing the last few pages and im not sure how simpkin has dropped in most rankings this year, quite a long way in some. hes had a huge year and his ceiling would be as high as anyones. some of the stuff he did today was just jaw dropping. he will probably be captain next year too.

Looking at Bolton’s last month of work in isolation he’d struggle to be top 20. The talent is there but he’s had a horrid few weeks of footy. Until he finds consistency there’s no way you could put him up there with the likes of Taranto, Simpkin and McCluggage.

Geez this thread is a lot cleaner when Bolton isn't playing well

Yeah look, Id probably have Simpkin startong in the middle considering hes 3rd in the league for centre clearances.

It's still bloody close at the top of this draft and I still reckon a lot of re-rankings will come down to personal preference. I'd go something like:

1. Stewart
2. McLuggage
3. Simpkin
4. Bolton
5. Ridley
6. Taranto
7. McGrath
8. Darcy
9. Rowan Marshall
10. Luke Ryan

Todd Marshall, Larkey, Berry, Hayward, Parfitt, Daicos, Florent, Lewis, Draper, English, Zurhaar could all feasibly be in that top 10 by the end of their career

And then you've got the following who are at the very least solid AFL players: Fisher, Drew, Battle, Ratugolea, Narkle, Morrison, Waterman, Willie Rioli, Graham, Ladhams, Henry, Guthrie, Fox, McInerney, Cousins.

This draft is so good and so deep.

Which Ruck combo would be your choice out of this draft?
  1. Darcy/English
  2. Darcy/Marshall
  3. Darcy/Draper
  4. English/Marshall
  5. Engllish/Draper
  6. Marshall/Draper
All 6 of those combos would be hard to face in a game. I feel a Marshall/English combo would be a killer in todays game.
You've got the Big O as well. Great draft for rucks.

To answer your question, I'd probably go Darcy/Rowan Marshall because I really like Marshall's potential as a forward, but any of those combinations would be excellent.

Great matchup today between Draper and English. Draper gave our mids great service with some quality tap work but got exposed at times with English’ ability to get around the ground.

I feel like English would be a gun KPD if given the opportunity.

Scrimshaw getting better with every game.

We famously gave up most of our picks in the 2016, 2017 and 2018 drafts and still ended up with Scrimshaw, Mitch Lewis, Harry Morrison, James Worpel, Dylan Moore and Justin Koschitzke.

Saints and Dees both have very good #2 - not sure English is easily better than Marshall/Ryder and Jackson.
I didn't quite phrase it correctly, I meant to say English in the future would be the best #2 ruck in the comp. Marshall will have to take the #1 mantle in a year so I don't really count him for the future, but Jackson is certainly a very good shout. Both have unique skill sets in that they are quite mobile and have fantastic skills for their height. English is better above his head and contested marking around the ground but Jackson is far better in the ruck and better when the ball is on the ground.

Agree - English and Jackson could become the next Gawn & Grundy. IMO they are the 2 most exciting young rucks.

Pretty special draft when you can put together this best 18 from guys who fell to the rookie draft (bit ruck heavy and struggling for mids):

B: Duman - Henry - Z Guthrie
HB: Lienert - Ladhams - O'Connor
C: Jones - Cousins - Hanrahan
HF: Nash - Marshall - Stengle
F: Zurharr - McInerney - Ronke
R: Draper - Fox - Simpson

Looking to be a very deep draft.

Marshall as captain and McInerney the vice captain.
