Can honestly say yep, got that wrong at time of writing. Obviously had a good stretch off games that made me over ate his position in the draft.

Things change, other players get better, some stagnate. Still, cant complain with an AFL standard AFL player even if it isn't going to amount to a superstar we all crave

Fair assessment, the position you are drafted at guarantees nothing and there is a strange obsession with it well into players careers and even post. Sure, clubs could have gotten other players etc but what’s the point in those what if scenarios, they achieve nothing other than stroking some egos tbh.

It’s a re draft thread. Its only purpose is to expose the bad picks and highlight the good ones.

McGrath is a bad one.

Yeah you have to post that as you listed him as a better player than McCluggage, Larkey, Daicos just to name a few.
couldn't care less about any of those players you listed, we are debating your suggestion that Andy McGrath is no good.

suggesting he isnt AFL standard is showing your tainted views as I would argue every club in the competition would welcome him into there best 23.

All who are left are in the beginnings of their 10th pre-seasons.

We're now at the point of knowing what we're getting from each player.

Who'll be the second to 200 career games?

Whose spot does he take in Brisbane’s team? McCluagge’s?

You believe his disposal is AFL standard? His decision making is poor as well. Dump kick specialist.

Please, this is pathetic even for you.

If we take any other player he goes pick 2. It's well known that GWS were taking him if we didn't. So not only is your argument pathetic due to your bias against Essendon but irrelevant because if we took McCluggage GWS take McGrath ahead of Brisbane.

It's a sad state you live in. When your club hasn't beaten the team you despise so much, who is also pretty shit, for a decade's worth of matches. And that club finding yours nigh on irrelevant and not even in the top third of rivals in the AFL. I'm sure you'll have some witty reply to this, deflecting away from that fact but everyone here knows the truth by now.

where mcgrath would have been selected but for essendon taking him at pick 1 is not particularly relevant to any assessment of his current status or any hypothetical where he landed at brisbane.

if he was at brisbane he is likely competing for a spot in the team with answerth who is the most 'role player' type of anyone within our best 22. mcgrath would be likely to hold that spot over answerth and may look better in a system that allowed him to focus on being a lockdown defender where there is no expectation for him to run and create from half back as well.

i suppose the issue with the above though is that you are happy to find that sort of player with a later pick (as is answerth) and not particularly pleased with it being your prized pick 1.

It's completely relevant as him being at Brisbane wouldn't have happened.

Suppose that he did land at Brisbane, he'd be considered one of the best small defenders in the league and probably be in your leadership group so not exactly a fringe player.

Was he the #1 pick we were hoping for? Probably not, but I doubt McCluggage would be the same player he is here compared to Brisbane. I think McGrath would probably be VC at GWS atm, poised to take over Toby in the next couple of years and at a club that has a severe lack of leadership we'd be bemoaning the fact that we chose an outside midfielder whose leadership isn't a great feature of his game ahead of McGrath.

The debate is that McGrath would play in every AFL side.

Fair rant while completely missing what is being discussed.

Mcgrath was drafted as a mid but they didn’t work out so was moved to defence.
checks notes

Under 18's AA as a half back, rising star as a small defender

Sure, the transition to midfield hasn't evolved as some would hoped but stop lying to yourself that he isnt AFL standard. That's just plain wrong

If not McCluggage - which defender would he replace at Bris?

He'd be on par, if not better than most, would be recognised as a better player without the red and black on let alone in a decent side like Brisbane. (Answerth, Lester probably too)

when has mcgrath gotten close to the all australian team?

which of wilmot, zorko, fletcher or starcevich is he on par with / better than?

I would argue that he would be ahead of Sam Marshall and one of Fletcher, Zorko or Wilmont would be moved up field

A Bigfooty debate is never even as nearly always a biased view is taken. In AFL land you will find every team in the comp would find room for him

marshall was not a b22 player for brisbane last year.
