In all seriousness what is Lobbe's story? How mobile is he? Who would you compare him? Prior to his injury wasn't he dropped?

Just can't see him playing with Ryder back and Trengove's development.

he is about as useful as a witches hat around the ground at the moment... sadly!

probably compare him and Zac Clarke in terms of impact around the ground..

He was dropped before he got injured, he has lost all confidence in his ability currently.
Possibly, going to a new club with different coaches could reignite his career, which we hope happens, as he was close to the best 2nd effort ruckman in 2014.

Hrovat has played a couple of good games. Many dogs fans rate him but he is injured a lot and given he is uncontracted he is rated around a 2nd or 3rd rd by many of us. Lot of upside though. Just not sure Lobbe is worth much - hard to say - but clearly the Dogs rated him last year.

i think it was more, you were desperate for a ruck, but that need seems to have calmed a little, with the emergence of Roughead as a genuine ruck and Boyd being able to play a 'Tippett' role. also have Campbell in reserve.

Many of us would prefer Boyd play less ruck. Campbell is injury prone, and a flight risk as he remains uncontracted for next year. Rough is just ok as a ruck and is fragile. Had a back problem last year and PCL injury this year and now he can't tap to advantage, can't go around the ground, can't mark, can't play forward.

He's pretty much turned into Brent Renouf.

If you got him and he was fit and in 2013/14 form he'd be a bargain* for a 3rd rounder + 100k salary being paid by other club. But it's a massive risk.

*(Considering we were getting 1st round offers for him just last year)

Think lobbes salary is being blown out of proportion. Was rumoured to be 400k for four years and a lot of us port supporters didn't like it specifically the length, but in 2017 that will be stuff all to be paying a first ruck. In fact it would probably be almost the lowest paid starting ruck in the league.

However, if you are paying him 400k+ to play seconds, like port would after discovering that lobbe and Ryder don't work as a tandem , then that is far too much to pay for a back up ruck on a list.

So it depends on his form and the teams situation. If he is at port and we play Ryder as first ruck the 400k for lobbe to play reserves is murder, but if re gains even just a smidgen of form and plays as a first ruck for someone like a Richmond or dogs than 400k for two more seasons he is contracted for then that is perfect and not overpaying salary wise at all.

As a ruck lobbe won a shitload of hitouts, but our complaint was that while he won a lot of hitouts he didn't really hit a lot of them to clear advantage. Not that even the elite rucks hit all their rucks clearly to advantage, most will just be hit down, but every once in a while a top ruck will get hold of a tap clearly to a mid, and lobbe just didn't do that enough.

Has a great tank and can get around the ground but has cement mitts. Horrible hands and most marks don't stick.

At his best he was an absolute wrecking ball in the middle. Used to bowl players down in the middle and was one of the best tackling and clearance rucks in the league at the time, not too mention how his big body helped clear the way for our mids to win the ball.


Then it all went pear shaped. He stopped being that wrecking ball in the middle. He looked to have lost a bit of that jump in the centre square. Funny thing is I reckon his mitts have gotten a little better but nowhere near good enough to make up for what he lost.

Still far better than a handful of the rucks getting around nowadays to be honest. We need to just move him on if we get a even remotely reasonable pick. Even depth rucks get picks around 30-40, so I would hope we can still get that but it depends on the other rucks available for the teams searching for one.

McStay is injured and played in the wrong position he's a key forward hopefully the next coach realizes this he really should be playing Walkers position and Walker never plays again

Even as poor as lobbe has been this year you would take him over Zac Clarke even on lobbes worst day.

If I was ports list manager Ild also be looking to move on Oshea and Neade for 3rd round picks and float broadbent to see if he got some interest worth parting with him, only because I see him as replaceable if we got a nice price.

Green would be a good get imo. He's had a bad year and missed the preseason. Had his fair share of niggles this year too. I'm hoping we can keep him.

McStay hasn't really tailed off. He's been in a side getting thumped consistently by 50+ playing as a KPD. He's last couple of games were very good before getting injured.

No way we'd let him go for anything less than a top 10 pick given the circumstances. He's shown a hell of a lot at both ends of the ground.

He's a swingman that's probably best suited to a CHB role going forward. He just needs to play a bit tighter on his opponent and bulk up more. He improved overall this year but it's worth remembering he's a 20/21 year old that needs to add some size playing in a backline that sees far too much opposition ball.

Walkers been good and bad this year. He's only there to lighten the load on the kids and provide a bigger body. After Close's performance yesterday, hopefully he can provide that instead.

$400k is a bit too much to pay, but for me it's not so much the salary, it's the length of the deal. I'm not keen on having a 28 year old ruck who seems to be struggling already tied to the club for three years, particularly if we're trading a decent asset for him.

I'd want a pick between pick 30 - 35. Kids been injured and the rise of Caleb Daniel in that exact role cost him.

Has ability, isn't slow and importantly he lowers the eyes and uses the ball well.

We were offered two 2nd rounders by GWS last year and Gold Coast are very interested.

That would be a reasonable trade for Carlton. Reckon Hrovat for around 35 would be a big win for the other club...but Doggies might not have a choice? Is he wanting out or just used here in trade discussions hypothetically?
