We didn't sign Melksham to a 4 year deal if he isn't in Goodwins best 18 plans going forward.
Have you not considered that circumstances change? Lewis and Rockliff were absolutely untouchable last season, and we didn't know we were drafting Oliver until after Melksham signed. Never mind the fact that Melksham hasn't played for a year. Suggesting Brayshaw and Oliver don't get a game if we pick up those two is absolutely delusional.

Very tough to put together a 22 without at least two of those three, Melksham and Vandenberg.

On the highly unlikely occurrence we snagged both Lewis and Rockliff and lost no players, I'd go:

B || N Jetta - O McDonald - S Frost
HB || J Hunt - T McDonald - M Hibberd
C || D Tyson - J Lewis - T Rockliff
HF || C Salem - J Hogan - C Petracca
F || J Watts - C Pedersen - D Kent
R || M Gawn - N Jones (c) - J Viney
I/C || C Oliver - B Stretch - A Brayshaw - B Vince

No Garlett, Bugg, vandenBerg, Harmes, Kennedy, Melksham.

EDIT: Garlett particularly stiff on reflection.

And that's it isn't it. Notwithstanding Lewis' long-term prospects in our team, if we got him it'd give us a real crack at the top 8 in 2017. Even if he didn't play after 2017, if we got into the finals and got that experience into Viney et al it has been a worthwhile endeavour.

I'm not as sold on the Rockliff trade but I am also happy to be proven wrong. I'm concerned at his off field actions though.

This is the post from demonland. Have to admit this person has been correct in the past. If what he wrote is true this is absolutely HUGE news.

Absolute can not believe the news I've got this morning.

Brisbane and Melbourne have agreed on handshake that rockliff will come to Melbourne for Dunn. We will give our first rounder for next year to Brisbane (which we bank on being 9-13) for Brisbane priority pick this year (19) as well as turning our second round pick (29) into a pick in mid 30s, which Brisbane are trying to get their hands on before end of trade week.

This is also delaying the Hibberd deal.

Brisbane will pay a portion of the salary. The only things holding this deal up are Brisbane not having a mid 30s pick yet, and rockliff not having results from a medical back yet.

Melbourne in- rockliff, end of round 1 pick (19); mid 30s pick.

Out, Dunn, 2017 Rd 1 pick (9-13) 2016 Rd 2 pick) 29

Source- both the new Brisbane football operations manager; and my uncle, fitzroy great, Brisbane scout and father of current afl captain. Oh and for any sceptics which I'm sure there are, this is out of the mouth of both.

I think we brought him in because of his competitive nature, and the way it impacts the rest of the group. Goodwin likes mongrel.

That said, I'm certain he's hoping Melksham is still improving and will play a good role - possibly even in the best 22.

Absolutely. Lewis buys Viney, Oliver etc 2 years AND he helps Vince and Jones out on the ground when the whips are cracking.

I think back to what Goody said to me at the start of the year about the Essendon game. Good teams find ways to win games when they're playing like shit.

Lewis means we beat the Bombers.

This trade period is bananas. Even if none of this comes off I've enjoyed myself immensely. Haha

It's lacked cryptic clues about clocks, though.

Rockliff, Lewis and Hibberd???

Surely zero chance of this happening. Not that I'd be terribly upset if it did, I just can't see us bringing in a mature plodder and another guy who has a polarising character among his peers. Let's see how it plays out, but I call BS...

Holy shitballs. I've been meandering around not smoking and cooking a massive Cuban casserole type thing and was just going to stop by and check in before having a bath, and you lot reckon we're getting Lewis and Rockliff.

And we're going to beat the bombers. I need to lie down for a bit.

You think this is bananas wait till you see the next couple of years.

Anyway take this to the bank and I don't care which one, Jordan will be a Dee in 2017.

You blokes have offered a very very good deal for 3 years compared to the Hawks 1 and with a young family Jordan would be stupid not to take the offer.

A deal is being worked on as we speak.

Looks a terrible deal for Brisbane. Lose your skipper and best midfielder for Lynden Dunn and effectively a couple of short pick upgrades.

I dont mind Rockliff the footballer, its Rockliff the Brent Moloney i can do without. If we are getting him hopefully he shuts his piehole and just plays football, dont need the carry on, thanks.

Lewis im down with 100% tho. Have warmed to the idea big time as the week has gone on.

I like the team, injuries will happen so its not like any of the unlucky players will miss out completely. Reckon Bern could be in the gun if his form continues on as it did at the end of last year.

Love the depth.

ps: Hogan to full forward please.

I think Rockliff will be a bit more positive and better player in a winning team :D

Hi dazzle, I know you've got a good memory especially in regards to posters and their track records. What has this guy got right in the past? All I remember from him is telling us Dangerfield was 99% over the line in 2014, which just seems ludicrous now.
It's also pretty obvious he's referring to John Murphy as his source, but I don't see any evidence of him working as a Brisbane scout.
I want to believe and the complexity of the trade makes it sound believable, but I reckon he could just be another chiliboy.

I just can't see Brisbane sending us their priority pick they got from the AFL, for a future pick! Will the AFL even let that happen? They need to get talent into the team now! Not a decent 18 yr old next year! I just can't see the Rockliff trade happening...
