Brander has been in and out of the GWS academy, what's the latest on his academy status?
Swingman type with good mobility.

The AFL stripped the GWS academy status for him so he will be available in the open draft. If he has a good carnival he will be a top 5. He plays both ends as well which will appeal to clubs

This thread wasn't started with the 'trading of JOM being a disaster theme'!
I'm all for the recruitment of the man, think he'll be an absolute gun.
It just shows where we are at the moment as a club & highlights the need to get back in to the draft earlier than picks in the mid to high 30's that's all.

2017 draft isnt supposed to be as strong as 2018. Id be happy to trade a player this year for a 2018 pick. Some1 on sen was saying that theres probably 5 blokes from 2018 that would go number one if they were available this year

I still reckon that Omeara is as good or better than everyone on this list.

Pick 4 in the draft:

2000 Luke Livingston
2001 Graham Polak
2002 Tim Walsh
2003 Farren Ray
2004 Richard Tambling
2005 Josh J. Kennedy
2006 Matthew Leuenberger
2007 Cale Morton
2008 Hamish Hartlett
2009 Anthony Morabito
2010 Andrew Gaff
2011 Will Hoskin-Elliott
2012 Jimmy Toumpas
2013 Marcus Bontempelli
2014 Jarrod Pickett
2015 Clayton Oliver
2016 Ben Ainsworth
Might even be worth noting the players available at pick 4 in those years.

Almost like a copy/paste article. Probably next year, we'll see another one saying 2019 draft is stronger.

Think in the age of Reality TV, everything is bigger and better than the previous.

I think it was Brett Anderson who was saying that this years didn't come on an expected and that next years players are already stronger. Works well for us cause we might have some draft picks next year haha

Two things with the draft
First is the recruiters are not looking at these players for the first time
Second is the plan isn't made on the day

The club has a plan, the truly great list manager can make adjustments on the fly

If the club is planning on moving up they would already be working in the trades and it would be based in list needs, who they think will be available and the expected free agent haul

We went hard in the draft in 2015, two of those picks in Burton and Hardwick look the goods, if Lovell can get ok the park he could be another hit

I'm looking forward to seeing what the strategy is this year.

I'm waiting for the end of the season to see what we really need

Going to the draft with a bunch of high picks has worked so well for everyone else why would we want to do the same ?

I mean how good were the Saints last night ?

Why would we do the same? Because we can back our recruiters to do better than the Saints and pick some genuine superstars.

Most guys will not be there for our next flag, so everyone is pretty much fair game except Cyril. He is Hawthorn.

And Cyril's marketability is astronomical, it would be as much business suicide as it would on-field loss to consider moving him on.

Yep. Purely football value related, i would trade Cyril. But he is my favourite player and the club's lifeblood.

Can't be done. Everyone else can be shopped
