Grand Final Entertainment

Megan-Washington_620.jpg

AUSTRALIAN musician and songwriter Megan Washington will perform before Saturday's NAB AFL Women's Grand Final at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast.

Washington will sing the national anthem and a selection of her own songs, and will also provide the entertainment at next Tuesday night's AFLW Awards function in Melbourne.

Washington, who was born in Papua New Guinea and moved to Brisbane with her family when she was 10, said she was "excited and honoured" to be taking part in the Grand Final.

"It's an historic day for the Australian sporting community…it's been inspiring to witness such a high level of community support for the women's competition," she said.

Brisbane unbeaten all season... could you imagine if they lost their first game in the big dance....... the pressure is on them....

Worth noting there will be time-on for points and out-of-bounds, unlike in the H&A season.

10 minutes extra time in the event of a draw. If scores are still level, it will go to golden point. Failing that, replay the following week at the Gabba.

It will take just one or two specific Adelaide players to have an off day for Brisbane to blow this out. Conversely, it's gonna be tough for the Crows to open up a substantial margin even if a few of the Lions' leaders have a stinker. One team's depth and discipline has stood above all others this season, despite what statistics like contested possessions, tackles or I50s say (which I think in turn says something about the meaningfulness of numbers on paper).

The good news (which Adelaide supporters would already be aware of) is that Phillips and Marinoff aren't likely to play poorly tomorrow. This should be a close match in more ways than one. Like in their rollercoaster round 5 meeting, both teams will flaunt a hunger to deprive their opponents of space, and I'm tipping the result will again come down to one shot on goal late in the piece. The wildcard of this high pressure match will be the pressure itself, like the kind of pressure that turns coal into diamonds!

The premiership winning side of the inaugural NAB AFL Women’s Competition will be honoured with a diamond premiership ring following Saturday’s Grand Final at Metricon Stadium.

Yeah, strange. Will just be smothered with the hype of men's AFL.

No men's football until 4.40pm today though. It's in a timeslot all to itself which is essential (and as it deserves at the very least).
