Hayden broke Nic Nats record of 102cm in the the vertical jump.

For an inside midfielder to be able to do that is pretty bloody special.
hardly a trait required for an inside mid though. i would have thought that if we viewed him as an inside mid then we'd be looking at agility, DE and speed/quality of decision making. having said that, never seen or heard of him so no idea what position anyone would be looking at him to fill.

IT took just five quarters of football for spring-heeled Panther Nathan Kreuger to wow AFL recruiters.

In a full match against Vic Metro and a quarter against Vic Country at this year’s AFL under-18 championships, the tall South Adelaide utility turned heads with his freakish athleticism and raw talent.

“Athletically he’s so good that you'd draft him every day of the week,’’ SANFL high performance manager Brenton Phillips said.

“He’s a bit of a freak physically and his upside is enormous.’’

After being left out of the SA side for the first two rounds of the carnival, the 196cm Kreuger shone against Vic Metro with 16 disposals, eight marks, five inside 50s and a goal in a performance that illustrated his strong mix of attributes.

Of his eight marks, three were contested while he won the ball at ground level with ease and used his long left-foot kick with great effect.

Kreuger’s campaign ended a quarter into his next match when he was concussed after he hit heads with an opponent in a tackle.

But his name had already been etched into recruiters’ minds.

Kreuger became one of only eight SA players to be invited — on the recommendation of at least five AFL clubs — to the AFL Draft Combine in Melbourne.

“I didn’t think I’d get the opportunity to go there because I didn’t play too many State games but obviously I must have done enough to impress in that game against Vic Metro,’’ Kreuger said.

“The clubs must have seen that I’ve got some decent attributes and wanted to get me in for a closer look, which was good.

“Since the national championships I’ve had nine AFL clubs ring me.’’

Phillips concedes Kreuger is far from the finished product but said his upside is off the charts.

“He’s still very much learning the game, the game-sense part of it and he needs to stay involved in games for longer,’’ Phillips said.

“But there’s no doubt he has some terrific traits.’’

Kreuger, who spent most of last season playing in the Panthers’ under-18s before finishing the year in the reserves, was born in Darwin before moving to the SA Fleurieu Pensinsula town of Victor Harbor with his family six years ago.

Now living in Adelaide’s western suburbs with his parents and four siblings, Kreuger in 2014 represented the Flying Boomerangs indigenous team at the under-16 national championships on the Gold Coast.

While his size and versatility are key attributes and allow him to play at either end of the ground and even as a big-bodied midfielder, Kreuger prefers being stationed in attack, where he did his damage for the Croweaters.

He plays like Port Adelaide swingman Justin Westhoff and lists star forwards Joe Daniher (Essendon) and Lance Franklin (Sydney) as two of his favourite players.

“Obviously my versatility is a strength but at this stage of my career I feel more comfortable up forward,’’ Kreuger said.

This "weak" "rubbish" draft has seemed to gain some momentum. Some of the kids who may be available could be players!

We seem better at picking them later on than earlier in recent times, could be a pre curser to a future 200 gamer being picked up :)

It’s rubbish, there is some quality among that predicted top 10 bracket (as you would expect) but there is also some really good prospects that won’t be picked up till later on in the draft, hopefully we can nab one or two of them

sven_inc, I cannot see Krueger lasting to a pick in the 50-60 range as some mock drafts suggest. I can only be hopeful he’s there when we have our first pick.

He has so much upside.

Will not at all be surprised if he goes Top 15-25.

I guess we don't even know if GW rates him at all. Here's hoping he does.

But this is one of the things I love about the draft and draft night. I'll be sitting next to my Marshall amp-like radio and excitedly cheering each club that doesn't pick him right up until either we do and I'll erupt or someone else does and I'll cuss the shit out of them.

I did the same thing with Burton, Garlett, Ratugolea, Luke Ryan, Barrett etc over the last few years and it's fun to have someone to barrack for whether we eventually get them or not.

The fact that the big dogs in Brett Anderson, Cal Twomey, Bishop, Knightmare, Matt Balmer etc don't have him anywhere near their top 30 doesn't garauntee he won't go somewhat early but it gives me hope that he will at least last until our 1st pick.

I tell you what, he'll be my boy if we get him!

There's a discrepancy between the 'draft experts' and the clubs list managers, i.e. clubs have access to all players' physical/psychological tests, interview players (sometimes more than once), speak with their families/teachers/schools/friends, and spend months/years watching these boys develop.

Sorry but too slow in getting rid of the ball and disposal is average.
Much rather cross my fingers for Noah Balta making our first pick.

I had a really good feeling we were going to land Smitty & cheered like a Boss when we did.

I've got that same feeling about Kruger - just wish I knew how to spell his name without checking!

Spot on, the “experts” can really only give their opinions based on seeing them play and perhaps their athletic testing, all of the other work that clubs do (interviews, psych testing, medical reporting, interviews with teachers, employers, coaches, charting of the the players possible scope for physical development) doesn’t get seen by the media people.
Yes there is possibility that they can be fed such info but they won’t ever have the whole picture of the work that has been done on the player.

I honestly think we’re going to to get Joel Garner, clubs are aware he’s a Hawks fan and his younger brother Todd is in our academy.
He seems to be slipping in all the phantom drafts and then today of all days, AFL Draft expert Cal Twomey has him linked to the Hawks.

Let's hope so.

Very good point you make though clubs could be scared off knowing he will request a trade in 2 years time.

I fully expect a melt down when he is still around at our first pick and we pass on him for someone no one has ever heard of.

As good as Dan Howe was last year, I feel vindicated in my Connor Blakely meltdown from a couple of year ago!!

I'm expecting us to draft players that have not been mentioned at all in our threads...

I don't think anyone thought we'd go Lovell with our first pick last year, let alone a later pick...
Can't help but think we panicked with that pick, feel like we wanted Gresham but he got taken a couple of picks before then we just went for the next best small mid
