Hey fellas I've got you guys for the Essendon mock draft. I'm going with Paddy Dow at pick 1, what are you guys thinking for 15, 18, 40, 44 and 52? I'm probably taking Ballenden at 18 if nobody has bid on him at that stage (no matching in this game)

There's a fascination with Worpel on this board for some reason. On Bonar, do you think he could be a legitimate midfielder in time? Is it true he could potentially be a top 5 player from this draft if he stays healthy? There are only a few clips of him that I could find and I have not seen him play a game yet but he is someone who I think the Lions could grab.I really don't rate Worpel so he's a negative at 15 or 18. I'm probably going to fill your picks. I'll probably throw in a CCJ at 40 or 44 if he's still available.
It's the same on our board, but his kicking is atrocious. I've honestly seen Bonar maybe twice. I'm more knowledgeable about VFL than TAC Cup but everything I've heard about him suggests he could be.There's a fascination with Worpel on this board for some reason. As others have said, our recruiters are really hoping that a bid for Ballenden comes after pick 18 and our trading for specific draft picks reflects this.Hey fellas I've got you guys for the Essendon mock draft. Yeah, I might inadvertently be the driver behind this. There's a fascination with Worpel on this board for some reason. On Bonar, do you think he could be a legitimate midfielder in time? Overall guys, I'm thinking of taking Alex Boyse and Bailey Fritsch from the VFL for you at 40/44/52, the way I look at your forward line you probably need them.
Spot on. We seriously need quality delivery to our young talls by foot. There's a spot in the team as that half forward type. Also can play half back, which would be handy to rotate players like Cox, Cutter, etc with that flexibility.Watching the way O'Brien kicks the ball is a thing of a beauty. I know getting the ball outside is the issue, but gee he would like good streaming down the wing of the gabba hitting blokes lace out. If he is there at 15, i'd be all over him.
What chance for hammelman to be upgraded? I am torn.As others have said, our recruiters are really hoping that a bid for Ballenden comes after pick 18 and our trading for specific draft picks reflects this.
We're probably taking 6 picks to the draft with the stated intention of taking three mids with the first three picks. Then matching a bid in the early to mid 20's for Ballenden with picks 40 and 44. There will likely to residual points left over from pick 44 that will slot further back in the draft. We "expect" to use later points/pick to match a later bid on or outright select another academy kid, KPD Jack Payne.
Our last pick might very well be used on a delisted free agent, likely a midfielder who can help drive professional standards and contribute to the development of our kids without necessarily playing any/many senior games, or a player looking for a last chance to resurrect their career much like Mitch Robinson has done at Brisbane, or pick up a potential project kid like Adam Sambono from the NT Thunder.
I run with two likely scenario's
1. Paddy Dow
15.Hunter Clark/Lochie O'Brien/Mathew Ling/Gryan Miers
18. James Worpel
40. Connor Ballenden
44. Jack Payne
52. Delisted free agent/Adam Sambono.
Or
1. LDU
15. Hunter Clark/Lochie O'Brien
18. James Worpel/Mathew Ling/Gryan Miers
40. Connor Ballenden
44. Jack Payne
52. Delisted free agent/Adam Sambono.
Agree, most pundits say it is between O'Brien and Coffield re who has the best disposal in this draft class. Coffield will go in the top 10 although not pick 1 so we have virtually zero chance of getting him, unless there is a very unexpected inside mid slider at 15/18 I want us to take O'Brien.I REALLY like OBrien and would not be upset if we picked him at 15 and will be screaming at the tv if he is still there at 18.
Elite kick (tick) good speed and fills a long term need. May need a cpl of years in reserves to fill out.
Fits the mould of what we wanted Polec to be but comes across of as having a lot more substance
Yeah hodgey made a mistake there, he's human. But he's a much loved leader of one of the best clubs in the land, that's why we talked him out of retirement. Was just an idea to help the best young man in the draft settle in. Watch what happens if you put two mates together (who have never lived out of home) with a 21 yo, party central, shit eating, trouble.Put him up with the veteran who was done for drink driving in the last couple of years
Not looking good for Matt. He's one of a few players who would be concerned this week. What chance for hammelman to be upgraded? I am torn.

Mate, give up. Worpel will not happen at 18. He is shit. The only possibility of Worpel is if he's untaken at 44 so that Essendon don't grab him.Yeah, I might inadvertently be the driver behind this.
If Worpel has time to measure his kick, he's a decent kick and will hit his target more often than not. But, he's often hack kicking a clearance ball out of a pack without actually identifying a target. No different to many, many kicks seen in every game of AFL. What Worpel does provide is what Brisbane is specifically missing, that big, ready made, mature body, who is a pure inside mid that can win the contested ball and feed it out or clear it, and hunt and tackle the opposition in possession of the ball to win the ball back. Worpel also brings character and leadership.
If you're going Paddy Dow at 1 and we miss out on Hunter Clark at pick 15, reaching for Worpel is almost a must at 18. There really isn't a player between picks 20 and 40 that fills the need that Worpel does.
Also we draft (or trade in) one Geelong Flacon every year to maintain our quotient of Geelong Falcons on our list.
Hey eth-dog, do you see any decent inside mids slipping to our picks 15 and 18? Hopefully Naughton, Hayes and Brander get taken in the top 14 and 1 or 2 slide to us.Mate, give up. Ideally 2 really good inside mids at 1 and 15 and if 1 not available at 18 I'll have everything crossed that Lochie O'Brien slides to us at 18. A bit similar to last year, I was on tender hooks last draft night, I was hoping for McCluggage at 3 then Berry at 17 and then Witherden at 23, got the wish last year, hopefully I can go back to back.![]()
If we draft Conner and Jack Payne, we will have to many talls with question marks over them. Not looking good for Matt. He's one of a few players who would be concerned this week.
