Long way to go yet so it's difficult to call it. Good thing is that with the added talks in the mix it will push down some of the better mids. Moving down from pick 1 is still a chance IMO for another first rounder so could be four picks in the top 20 or so.

Every draft in the last 10 years has been called shallow at some stage by someone. When people are paid to talk about it, the quality will be inevitably be exaggerated one way or the other.

Would love Brander to jump up and be a consensus number 1, this would really open the door for us to trade hard and ruthlessly with our number 1 pick.

Unless of course he projects as a once in a generation player ah la Jacob Weitering then we might just have to keep it and draft him.

I just don't see a team giving up multiple picks to trade for pick one. Realistically you would want St Kilda to trade up, as they're the only team with a high and mid/late first rounder. Or a 2017 first rounder and a 2018 first rounder. The hype for next years draft has already started.

Maybe it could involve a player or 2 a mixture player and pick briz? Hopper/Kennedy/Kelly/Coniglio.

I would love to be able to pick up a highly rated younger player plus a pick in a trade, but I just don't see it happening, unless one or both of the Himmelbergs want to move up to QLD, and lets face it, we're not really "home" for either of them.

12 months out from draft = super draft
Year of draft = shallow draft

If Schache just wants to go home, we need to talk him into going to Carlton. Fight real hard to get there first pick which is likely to be pick 2.
We will have pick 1 we are the clear leader for the wooden spoon and that wont change.
Afl are kind enough to give us pick 1 or 2 as a PP therefore we have pick 1 and 2 and 3.
Use ports pick to pick up Hopper and 19 and collingwoods 3rd rounder on Ballenden.
Picks 1,2,3
Hopper
And Ballenden and either Clayton or Payne with later picks or Rookie picks.
Done!
Easier said than done!

If Schache leaves do we take the potentially best KPF in Brander or take Ballenden? Both maybe?

A Hipwood, Brander and ruck-forward of Ballenden would be amazing but I have a feeling the way footy is going that teams won't be able to carry 3 talls in the forward lines... even 2 these days is slowly being phased out possibly?

Been having similar thoughts but you definitely need 2, couple of mid range forwards and the rest crafty fast smalls

Depends on their athleticism, you could have 3 Hipwoods, Buddy's etc but the days seem long gone of having slow lumbering tall forwards who are useless when the ball hits the deck.

That picks 1, 2 and 3 dream is teetering on the edge of being slightly erotic.
I don't think I'll ever get caught up with being excited about high end draft picks again, whether multiple or otherwise, given those players rarely hang around and the inevitable occurs.

I'd be picking Ballenden and Darcy Fogarty.

Let's see if he follows Tayla to Carlton ;)

Haven;t been paying attention to this draft crop compared to previous years, but I would love for us to pick up a raging bull, ready made player (a la Clayton/SPP types).

Can I just say booo (in lieu of using stronger language) at Cal Twomey.

On Twomey's podcast today, just casually mentions Jaidyn Stephenson is a Lions fan. The one top end kid I don't want for the Lions purely based on others such as LDU, Lochie O'Brien or Darcy Fogarty being a better fit.

He is a mid sized Forward/Mid I believe.
Tom Bell hasnt really set the world on fire in that position and we dont really have anyone to fill that role. Jack Gunston type maybe? We could do with players of that ilk.
Granted, the others on your list are more a requirement. And we need to look at mids first, both inside and out.
