Can you do the same sort of review of our backline and then say that we need mids first? Interested firstly in your review and secondly in your opinion of what we need most atm.
Key backs: Andrews, Skinner, Frost and McStay
Small-medium defenders: Gardiner, Cutler, Mayes, Rich, Paparone, Harwood, Cox, Hinge, Allison
We all are.On Brett Anderson's first draft/trade on the clock podcast today he was saying this time last year he had around 70 players on his draft board as AFL potential players and as of now he has 25-30 for this year.
On the Schache situation he said he will not be at Brisbane next year and the Lions are resigned to that being the case.

Schache is all class knowing what the club invested in him and worst still, happy to take an almighty dump on the club.
Thanks Josh.

Clueless about what?Sigh... you're clueless.

Clueless about what?
Yep, it's not insulting at all that Schache doesn't want a bar of the club.![]()

I like how much confidence he has in his ability.'I'm going to outwork them': Draft hopeful's creed.

If he had decent speed, he'd be probably be top 10.I like how much confidence he has in his ability.
Yep, let's sympathise with all those first round picks that merely come up to the club for the bare minimum period only too burn the club, piss off home and leave the club in a worst off position. That will really get the club back on track. No doubt you're already excited at the prospect of McCluggage doing what Schache's doing next year and then we can look forward to whoever we pick with the number one pick this year doing the same in 2019.I'm honestly not going to bother explaining it to you. It is too obvious.
Read this earlier today and was quite impressed by his drive. There are two types of small forward with your agile speedy types e.g. Riolis and then the rest like a Toby Greene or Papley. He and Spargo fall into the last group and they should be two names that we should kee an eye on with our need for small forwards.'I'm going to outwork them': Draft hopeful's creed.

He has been a standout since the U16 champs. I have little doubt that if he had pace he would be top 5. Very rounded player otherwise. While most of the guys at that height are speedy (Fantasia, Castagna, Riolis, Zorko, Impey, Josh Green) some aren't. Sam Gray isn't quick and he is holding his place in a very good side with fewer tricks than Higgins. Sadly, given our need for speed, I doubt he would be on our radar. If he had decent speed, he'd be probably be top 10.

Wait until the U18 Champs before feeling too down about it mate...In regards to speed, don't forget we have Cox, William and Allison on our list. We might not see much of them this year, but you'd expect they would all get a decent amount of games next year.
The more I hear and read about this draft, the more down I feel about it. It's funny that there is almost as much talk about next years group in every discussion of this years group.
It's shaping up to be a first round dominated by Vic City kids, or players in positions we don't really need.
If we do not get a top 8 pick for Schache, it's just going to totally screw us over.
Higgins is very much on my radar with Ports pick or if he lasts that long, our second rounder.
Outside of the possible top 10 or 12, there's only two kids I have genuine interest in, Jack Higgins or James Worpel, and I've cooled a fair bit on Worpel. Maybe
Paddy Dow and Lachlan Fogarty depending on who they perform through the U18 Championships and where they end up being rated.
I think that any club in the comp would be prepared to pay more than 300k for Hopper inparticular. If think that he and Kennedy are our best chances of getting some good quality youngsters with a couple of years of experience onto our list. Hoppers first game last year was amazing and if we only had to give up 350k to get him then i wouldn't hesitate if i were Noble. And a partner in crime (Kennedy) from Gws would be a great get. Had a great game for an undermanned gws last weekend.Listening to GWS fans they cant see how either Kennedy or Hooper will be offered any more than 250 - 300k a year.
Pie in the sky stuff I know but if we could manage to attract a couple of decent out of contract kids North (Hooper, Kennedy, Cockatoo) we could avoid having to use too many draft picks and priority picks that might come our way. Listening to GWS fans they cant see how either Kennedy or Hooper will be offered any more than 250 - 300k a year. I wonder if Noble and co would be prepared to pay a little more than market rate to tempt these lads North. If we could sign them on 3 or 4 year deals we dont have to worry about them taking off early like our usual first round draft picks.
We will have the picks and salary cap to facilitate these trades. This is how its all supposed to work. I wonder if we can make it happen?
On Brett Andersons first draft and trade podcast yesterday, he discussed a few of the restricted free agents and where they'll end up. They discussed Hopper, mentioned he's Vic bound, I just can not remember which club.Pie in the sky stuff I know but if we could manage to attract a couple of decent out of contract kids North (Hooper, Kennedy, Cockatoo) we could avoid having to use too many draft picks and priority picks that might come our way. I think it was Carlton. He also mentioned that he thought Dustin Martin would want to get out of the Melbourne footy bubble and his tip was that he could end up at GWS, maybe Hopper and Kennedy or Josh Kelly could end up at the tigers in an effort to get Dusty. On Brett Andersons first draft and trade podcast yesterday, he discussed a few of the restricted free agents and where they'll end up. Can't see GWS having the cash available for DustyI think it was Carlton. I think that bit was more speculation, as I'm pretty sure he said Dusty is more than likely to stay at Richmond.I think it was Carlton. I feel for GWS if both Kelly and Hopper leave I honestly do with those vultures from Vic just picking off whoever they want from the Northern clubs. However this could work to our advantage as I've outlined before and if Hopper and Kelly go and there is a player that GWS want and we hold that pick (possible 1) that they would need then I can see them being a viable partner to acquire more picks in the first round if that is what the club would like to do and also if it was beneficial to us.I think it was Carlton.
