It's tempting. While mids are our #1 priority, a forward line of Ballenden, Hipwood, Fogarty as 2 talls and a medium forward could cause havoc for 10 years.
I am not sold on Ballenden....I think I might prefer Allen...much more suited to the modern game style with a mature body and ready to slip into best 22 round one. We already have a Ballenden called Hammelman.

If I was looking for a player to compare Ballenden to... well, look, I'm not the best at "plays like"s. But it wouldn't be Matthew Hammelmann. I'm really not seeing that comparison.

Lol he is absolutely nothing like Hammer. Have you seen him play?

I've asked that question of a couple of BF phantom drafters and the answer was Tom Boyd with one of them throwing in the line "A better version of Tom Boyd with more upside".

Boyd is more athletic. Ballenden will be a brute, closer to Patton I reckon.

Nothing wrong with a UDL mate ;)

Takes me back to when life was good

What about Dixon? Not sure Ballenden is that athletic.

Maybe Callum Sinclair.

I hear that Rayner has conclusively said he'd be open to playing interstate. With that in mind, I think the club should go for him as he's the best talent overall. So what if he spends some time up forward? If he's potentially a bigger game changer than the rest, I want him regardless of need.

If Rayner's his name is read out by the lions pick 1 on draft night, I believe there will be a few surprised people on here. Not me though.
I wouldn't say surprised. More likely some people will express some concern in regards to possible go home factor, and whether we should have picked for team needs and fit.

No problem. We'll get a late first rounder if he leaves.

Am I right to say that the people concerned about Rayner's Go Home factor think it's bigger because he's Vic Metro? While country boys have stuck around recently, the Go Home factor we're dealing with right now is a country boy too. All we can really go on is the player's statement on the subject and whatever he says to club management in interviews. If the management are satisfied enough not to worry about it, then neither should we.

No you are not right.

It's been rehashed multiple times in this thread. There have been rumours, since the U18 championships, that Rayner has little interest in leaving Victoria, despite what he said in an interview at the AFL combine.

IMO Walker is just starting to grow into that role, and we wont be so badly off. He is only 24 remember.

He may be growing into the role but he's never going to grow any more hair

Lady stting behind me at the Gabba annoys me by insisting on referring to him as "the old guy"

I strongly urge Walker to go total Nude Nut next season.

Nude Nut doesn't look as old.

I go the blade, not game enough to go the full shaved head yet.

But Rayner says he's fine with playing anywhere. There's no way he'd be fibbing and then ask to be traded to a specific Vic club in two years. no way
