Yeah there are never decent talls after the first round. Nekminnit Ben brown is chosen at pick 40-something

The exception not the rule. Most go first round like Riewoldt, Kennedy, Buddy, Patton, Lynch, Daniher etc.. or would be first rounders but get picked in other ways like Cameron, Hogan, Tex Walker.

Astbury, brown, Jenkins, jacobs, nankervis, hooker, both McGovern's, Tippett, gunston, lonergan are all high quality to star afl players selected after the first round, just off the top of my head. Then there are plenty of redpath types who are good without being stars.

Just cause our stupid recruiters can't see tall players after the first round doesn't mean every other club can't.

Sorry i meant tall forwards, hence why i only name tall forwards. There are plenty of great rucks and backmen to be found in later rounds, i would say the Gunston and MMcGovern are third talls.

And you're leaving it at that?
Not much else needs to be said. The club love Naish and will take him but look for them to trade picks away looking to next years draft.

12 months ago this thread would be 30 pages strong and we'd all but have our picks sorted.

Yeah, however, there are bigger fish to fry now. Prelim...

Unless a top 5 talent slips for some reason, I don't care who is available we MUST use both our too picks on kpps. We cannot continue with such pathetic depth in big men. Frankly we have been lucky to only miss a few games from jack and nank but if one of our talls goes down medium term we are stuffed.

Also jack and Rance aren't getting any younger and we have to start planning for life beyond them.
Pathetic depth?
Griffiths
Hampson
Moore
Garthwaite
Chol
Soldo

I wouldnt exactly call that pathetic. Whilst Grif and Hampson will never be stars they are more than servicable if required.
Moore will come good
Garth will come good
Chol dury is still out on this one.

Yes we need a couple more but draft is still best available for me.

You are kidding yourself if you think that's good depth. Two long term delist quality duds (griffiths, hampson), two promising young guys under 2 years in the afl (moore, Garth) and two rookies with a very very long way to go (soldo, chol).

We have gambled our entire tall man stocks on a single rookie/low pick for each position (Moore forward, soldo ruck, Garth back, chol misc) which even if they all come good, still leaves us horrifically short of tall talent and depth.

If its so bad how about you list tall stocks accross the other 17 clubs not getting a game. You will find our depth is not bad at all.

Due to the additional 2 clubs the top line players among all clubs are getting thin. I would say a VFL grand final shows our depth is much better than other clubs in all areas

I think this obsession with tall players from our more seasoned Tiger supporters is a bit of an indication of how the game is changing.
Although I do agree we need a ready made CHF to really give us the best chance for sustained success, its not as important anymore. We've made a prelim through using a small forward line for the majority of the season.
Tall players aren't as vital as they used to be, it appears as though the club has noticed this, but it might take a little while for the vast supporter base to catch up.

*if someone takes offence to this, I apologise in advance, it was not the intention but I can see why some may feel aggrieved.

I have been saying it for years. Pace, Pace and more Pace.

You honestly only need 3 talls. Forward, Ruck and Defender.

Talls are over rated

Clubs cant park good depth these days, other clubs will cherry pick good up and comers. Depth yes, good depth not so much.

GWS have been stripped of their first round pick due to the Whitfield stuff, so pick 15 should be the Geelong pick. Not to sure about academy picks however they may impact.

Can't find the F&S thread..

But Billy Lambert got Best on for ressies QAFL final. I forgot to watch for him this week, and 2 weeks ago when I saw Morningside, but he must be still just under the draftable level. But one to watch in the next couple of years.
