It will be interesting to see what the coaches do with Buntine or Corr for this weeks game although it is early in the season it is clear to me they are playing for one spot on the list this year although Corr is contracted till 2018 I am sure they have had the discussion that if either is not in the best 22 and they want to move for greater opportunity the club will help facilitate the best deal for either party.
I would think the club would want to hold onto HH but it could depend on where he feels he is placed later in the year and also if any clubs offer the big bucks

I get the feeling Buntine is as god as gone. Too small to be a true key back. He is really up against Haynes for a game in the best 22 and they are worlds apart. Gets his games cause others are injured.

Anyone who was drafted in those first couple of years who aren't certain best 22 are on borrowed time. They suck up too much of the cap and we are better off spreading the age profile

I think if you're still here in 2017, the club wants you. We have limited senior depth and, to be fair, they probably aren't eating up the cap.

As a recall during the draft, one of the key attributes about Buntine was his on-field leadership and ability to structure the defensive line. He may be just the person to take over from Heater when he retires.

Not sure if after 7 years if what someone did in their draft year means a hell of a lot.

Doubt he is on much coin.

He sort of plays that small defensive role and from what I've seen he is serviceable and a good depth man.

Probably his ability to read the play and intercept mark are his strengths, but he is not really agile and probably gets bashed about a bit.

He's a bit more aware these days as early doors his courage going back for the ball often led to heavy collision injuries and concussion.

He's not my favourite player and won't ever be a Pick 4 talent but he does a role and is a good and popular clubman.

Talk from some Hawthorn supporters on the main board that they are into Whitfield big time at the end of the year. Given their lack of draft picks this year (St.Kilda & Suns say thanks) not sure how they reckon it will get done. Suggesting he's worth a late first or early second. I would have thought for GWS to entertain Whitfield going it would have to be a top 10 pick or are you guys under so much cap stress that you could offload him cheaper?

No, you've got it wrong. There's a secret agreement between Whitfield and both the Hawkes and the Giants that he'll go there in two years time when there's cap space to pay him. Can't be done this year, but give it a year or two and it'll be sweet. Everyone knows:rolleyes:

They were into him last time, before he signed, and then when he re-signed they revealed the secret agreement. We'll see how the season plays out, but if Hawks don't improve I cannot see why Lachie would want to leave and go there. And no, I wouldn't have thought the cap was so tight that we'd have to offload him for a reduced trade price, but of course only the club knows what the story is. I guess the Josh Kelly retention issue may play a little into the whole business. Given he's under contract, I'm happy to wait it out. I do hope he stays though, really enjoy watching him play.

What is this secret agreement?

What is this secret agreement?

The secret agreement for Whitfield to go to the Hawks when cap space and contracts allow. We carry him for a couple of years while they sort themselves out and then he'll finish as a Hawk.

It's all very very hush hush, but those "in the know" know all about it.

Well, at least according to some Hawk posters here on Big Footy:rolleyes:

We are being very tongue-in-cheek in quoting the Hawks' posters on their claim.
You mean its not true?

All very well except the AFL integrity cops vet every trade before it's ratified to ensure nothing dodgy is taking place. You can no longer have private agreements to get a player to a certain club for unders. Not sure how the Hawks get a high pick to snare Whitfield. Anyway, Hawks is no longer a destination club with an ageing and faltering list with few kids showing anything much.

Richmond have the same agreement with Shiel, the sacking of his future father-in-law Mark Williams just an elaborate ruse to put us off the scent!!

Apparently Richmond got Shiel to re-sign purely to put more pressure on our salary cap and make it more difficult to retain Kelly who will join them as a package deal in 2024!!!....sheer genius from the brains trust at Tigerland.

Reckon we may come knocking again at the end of this year - remember us? :)

There is a fair bit of talk on our board (fuelled by a very in the know poster) that we are big into Hopper & Matt Kennedy.

So I guess I have a couple of questions....

1) What do you value those two at, both individually and as a package?
2) Are there any contracted players you'll likely want off your books at the end of the year?

If our dealings at the end of this year are anything like what has gone down over the past couple of years, we'll likely have our main targets & be willing to take on a contract (think Palmer, Lamb & Sumner) to get those targets at a slight discount.

From our perspective I have no doubt we'll be looking to keep our 2017 1st round pick, but we will be open to moving some other pieces around to get the required picks to on-trade through to you. I also would not completely rule out moving on our 2018 1st.
