Unfortunately, if he has decided to leave, then talk from your club of not playing him after August (source: Caro) would only facilitate his silence and make matters worse for GWS.

This is dumb psychology.

The giants would be much better served by ensuring the kid that regrettably but ultimately they support his decision, keep it silent, and encourage him to give a 110% effort in their flag push as a departing contribution.

The only person insisting that there is talk "of not playing him after August" is you.

The phrasing was pretty explicit - go to NM and you won't make finals, i.e. stop playing in August, stay at GWS and play finals in September. GWS is not going to drop Kelly, and GWS has not threatened to drop Kelly.

The consensus is that the 2017 draft will turn in to a lucky dip past pick 30.

You must delist 3 players.

As it currently stands picks 24, 25 and 70 would only likely return you a single decent player.
We have 3 quality academy kids so our late picks are actually useful for us

Powell, Richards and Shipley are the likely academy boys we get and if we happen to snare a top first rounder we will then go best available or spargo/brander for the lols.

Thanks for your concern anyway

Thanks.

I can see why your club is pushing for a response from Josh as so much more relies on his position.

This is just not consistent at all with much more reliable media sources and is not consistent with a club that is quite competent at list management. Even the McCarthy situation was dealt with in the right way at the time.

The Kelly situation is playing out fairly professionally by all involved to this point. We all just have to wait and be patient. Oh wait, I forget this is Big Footy!

On the contrary, I think you are the one misunderstanding the statement.

If you are correct then you are expecting me to believe that a GWS admin person has arrived at the conclusion that North won't be playing in the finals for the next 10 years!

No sane person could make such an absurd declaration about any club, much less an AFL affiliated administrator.

I would argue a sane person would have heard of hyperbole... Case in point.

Yep, that footy show excerpt was what you posted in the D&T thread, and no, there's no tangible evidence there. Dave Matthews made no threat, simply said GWS didn't want any NM players - i.e. any trade would be for picks. And as for the 'unnamed GWS source', well that's not worth much, but even then the comment was simply abut a decision between premierships & money - but there was no sense that anything even as minor as that was actually said to Josh. You are drawing the conclusions that suit what you want to be true.

Well you can't have it both ways mate.

It either relates to Josh this year, or it relates to Josh's entire hypothetical career at North.

Anyway, enough of this, I now have a better understanding of the GWS 2017 list position.

Thanks, and I bid you adieu.

If it helps him sleep better though...

Time to take your arguments to the main board mate, thanks for the input, but this our board and our thread.

I am always amazed at the amount of thought that some people put into things and what they could do with themselves or for others if they actually used that time in a more productive way instead

So still no confirmation of the new CBA which will make things hard for clubs renegotiating contracts and also making list management decisions
I would think that the club announces some new contracts in the next 2-3 weeks which would give us an indication of Kellys decision
The big 5 to be announced
Kelly
Smith
Hopper
Kennedy
HH
I can see 2 of that list leaving, the reason could be money or to a lesser degree for more opportunity in the case of HH. I am sure the club has offered contracts to all and is just waiting on the CBA to be announced and it is the players and managers who are saying an improved run of form and the contract could be increased so a bad time for Smith and Hopper to be out injured

So much emotion into a short clip from a gossip show which went with some line from an un-named GWS source and its being taken as gospel.

TBH if the club does go with the position of if a decision hasnt been made by the time finals start then the player wouldnt be picked I would happily support it, and its not just for Kelly it would be for all players. Would imagine a week in Melb with the ridiculous media prodding and prying may be enough to decide.

no chance- we make finals we play the best team. He is still contracted for this season...we need to use his services this season. We are not the carlton basket case that did that last year...we are playing for a flag

To be fair we werent playing finals when these guys left. Its more about buying in to achieve success.

IMO a team would be more likely to drop a player if it's not going to impact finals. But that part is, as noted, my opinion.

No chance of that happening....

Should a player withdraw his services if he has not been recontracted by the end of August?

Works both ways

At the very least he needs to make a decision pretty soon because its turning into a circus and other players contracts are most likely being impacted by the delay. 4 other guys need to know where their future is at.

He may have already made the decision.

He wont tell us till trade week if its to leave.

Thats pretty unfair on Smith, MK, HH, Hopper if they are left in the lurch until then, could end up losing all.

My guess is that offers have already been made to all of the players we are likely to keep.

They will have been told that there is a possibility of more based on CBA increases. They will also be told that if Kelly and/or Smith decides to go elsewhere, the Club will make a revised offer.

At the same time they will be weighing up offers from other clubs which are also contingent on the CBA and their own situation. It is likely that the offers from other Clubs will be more than what we offer anyway because our cap is tight.

Clubs with cap space will have an advantage and, anyway, the situation won't be resolved until Trade week as none of our guys are free agents and it's unlikely we'd delist them.
