Purely hypothetical, but would you take Wietering in a straight swap for Kelly? Or would you want more?

A 19 yo yall of his quality a rarity and a good get. Talls always seem a bit risky in development but he'd be less of a risk than an 18yo from the draft.
I think it depends on how our list manager sees our priorities. Our talls are pretty settled though and would he be happy playing NEAFL having played AFL with you guys if necessary, lots of ifs. Not a silly idea IMO, but I think you'd be mad to let him go, he's in your best 22 and can develop with the team.

The alarm clock had just gone off and I was barely half awake but I thought I heard the sports guy say something about Harry Himmleberg signing a contract extension. Not mentioned in the next sports report so can't get too excited just yet.

Very happy if I heard right.
Youre dreaming about list managment again?

You did. Great news, I think he has a long and successful career in AFL ahead of him

If Kelly was definitely lost to us, then I would call that a fair trade (obviously the preference is to retain Kelly), the main consideration would be whether we're too overloaded with talls and getting short on ground level players.

Apparently not dreaming.

I think the correct response is...
:):):):):):)

Fantastic news and if he keeps developing he will be an absolute gun in a few years.

Also noticed a certain Matt Kennedy liking a post from Harry's management about the re-signing so hopefully a sign hat Matt isn't far off re-signing as well.

Must be listening to 702 as the alarm also :p

Personally, absolutely not. We have great depth at both ends of the ground at the moment so he doesn't fill a need and may not even be guranteed a spot. Besides....you guys would be crazy to do that! He will be a key post for you guys for years to come, you would be throwing away your future

A good signature to get and still a few more left this year but I feel the key positions are well stocked and unless things change I can see only one tall drafted this year Richards as a ruck
Maybe they will make another announcement for the bye week before finals?

Excellent news! Thanks for re-signing HH, great to have you on board for another 2 years, and hope that you get plenty of opportunity. :thumbsu:

And then there were 4. (I'm not really concerned about Dawson Simpson or Matt de Boer on one-year contracts, but by-the-by, I do think that we will probably re-sign them.)

Both are dirt cheap insurance. Along with Reid and Lloyd, I expect all 4 to sign a 1 year deal. Only M'Zungu looks to be delisted at this stage.

But the obvious importance lies with in order:

Kelly
Smith
Hopper
Kennedy

Personally I'd go in order of Kelly Hopper Smith Kennedy - with Griff on limited time I think we need the inside mid more than the small forward; and I think we could find a replacement for Dev a little more easily this year. But just a minor quibble - agree the rest.

When offered a new contract, Thor... I mean Harry said....

The bit at the bottom re Dev is interesting.

500k I reckon is a very decent offer. If he wants more best he heads home.

Good article and I thought that opposition players will be targeting Greene this year so good to see he is working on a solution
On the salary numbers from the article I don't believe the offer to Hopper is 800k as I feel he is still unproven at the most it should be 500k for the 2 years with the new SC
And Smith should be 600-700k, maybe a bit low but with the last 2 years and his games missed due to injury I wouldn't want the club to match a higher offer but if Kelly leaves then maybe make it a 3 or 4 year offer and slightly higher
Hopefully the club has it all sorted and it is just waiting for the right time to make the announcements
Maybe the week of the last home game of the regular season and also the bye week would be a good time for an announcement

Any thoughts on if the club will look to trade in an experienced AFL player this year or just look at the draft?
Johnson and Mzungu to retire* and then thinking 2 of the OOC players leave will it create a lack of experienced depth at the club
I can see the club keeping MDB on the senior list and then rookie Reid and Lloyd again and maybe Rookie Simpson if they draft Richards which would be 5 rucks on the list although 2 would be yet to debut
I would like to see the club look at a experienced midfield option but it does depend on cap space and and what they would be after but a player similar to MDB or Mzungu would be useful. 100 games experience and an ability to play inside and out and then happy to play reserves as well

I reckon a bloke like Matt Shaw from the Suns fits the bill. He showed a bit early days but has just been overtaken by the glut of midfield talent.

Haven't checked his stats but he'd be close to 100 games and mid 20's so not cooked. He'd be under a fair bit of pressure to stay on their list and I doubt would be high up on shopping lists.

Won't cost much and could fill in a slot if we get smashed with injuries.

Unsure of character but liked the way he went about it when he was getting a game.

Jack Trengove would have to be under enormous pressure at Melbourne. He was a high draft pick and is of good character and playing tidy in VFL.

Geelong, if they get the players they are targeting could provide some nice options, however these would be legitimate best 22 options.

Darcy Lang, Cory Gregson and Brandon Parfitt would all be worth an enquiry, particularly if they get Ablett, Hopper and Smith. They will need to clear the decks.

Can't see Geelong being that active but if they move Motlop on and maybe the 2 2nd rounders for Smith can be used for academy players although it may be one for next year
And it all depends on Kelly though

I like the idea of a delisted mature aged guy given a second chance because they will train thier ass off to get a chance in a good side, they will take a minimal contract $$ wise which helps retain others and they are ready to go if injuries hit. But they have to be the right fit personality wise like MDB seems and not be full of themselves and crack the sads if they dont get picked.
