Spargo would've been nice. :(

Yeah I know...he's only tiny but looks a real goer. Due to his size he might still end up a mid teens pick so with trading who knows but would have much rather taken him as our 2nd Academy selection...

With live draft trading set to be introduced there is still the opportunity to grab him or others so all not lost yet :)

I don't take junior positions as givens once they transitioned into seniors, otherwise Toby would still be an semi-effective inside mid and Tomlinson and Haynes forwards. Cumming could end up where ever we need him. :)

I'm not saying we can't do with more speed, but there appears to be some awareness of that need.

I agree - I don't mind the three tall set-up, but Smith doesn't seem to have the football nous to be in the right place to crumb or chase, and Stevie J is way too slow these days. Toby's great, but I'd love one more defensively focused (but not cripplingly so, like Reid) forward down there.

I'd be half tempted to throw Zac up there and bring Wilson back in down back - it feels like we don't really lose anything in the defensive 50, but Zac could be a game changer with his speed and harassing now.

Adam's still our best defensive small. Playing him on Betts was a good call. Betts had a couple of moments of brilliance but he could've absolutely destroyed us if Shaw or Zac was on him, not that it mattered in the end given we lost it through the middle which I doubt was part of the gameplan.
I lnow they chop and change but I noticed Haynes with Betts a bit more than could be incidental. Not saying it was tactics just an odd matchup.

The group think before the game was that our mids had to win the battle in order to starve their forwards, nekminit

In the next off season our focus should be on speed through the midfield.

Due to bad luck or injury WHE, Ahern and Pickett did not work out for us and due to politics it looks like Spargo won't get to us so it is an area which will require a trade in.

We simply don't have a player like Charlie Cameron who adds so much zip and unpredictability to a team. We should be thinking about options now.

We have an inbalance in our midfield of too many tall slow players that offer the same skill sets. We may have lost the best of hem in Steele but we still have 4 or 5 of exactly the same player.

We also need a zippy small forward to add some diversity to our forward line. Teams like Adelaide and Hawthorn (Betts/Puopolo) have shown the benefits of this. Dev is super talented but he is yet to show the consistency to own this role. I suspect he might be one of the blokes that leaves at season's end.

If Dev goes I would love the club to consider moving for a trade with Nth for Kayne Turner. Ive watched a bit of him and think he's an underrated player and is tough. He would be a good fit and wouldn't cost the world.
i'd be interested to hear what your thoughts are on a trade that involved Kayne Turner (who i rate) + Norths first rounder 2017 for Jacob Hopper. Would that come close or is it off the mark? cheers.

No. Not close. We dont want him gone and he is worth more.
Would laugh north out of the door
I do love how fans of a club say they rate their own player as they are trying to shove them out the door in a trade.

Honestly dont know enough about him. Have noticed knowlegeable posters soeak highly of him, that's all I know. Hopper will have an offer from us this year, it's his call then. If he wants to go we trade, I hope he wants to stay

to be fair, i suggested Kayne Turner because one of your posters said they were a fan and you guys should target him..

Yes, your question was quite fair IMHO because it followed the previous comment about liking/wanting Kayne Turner. The response was from someone who presumably doesn't rate Turner as highly, and, probably moreso, doesn't want to lose Hopper. Personally I'd not offer an opinion at the moment as I probably am of a similar mindset, but I need to see how our list stacks up throughout this year as to work out what we can afford to lose and need to gain. But after losing Steele last year, we're probably very keen to keep our NSW kids.

Chances of Josh Kelly leaving?

Would like 0%

But who knows at this stage.

If it money that motivates him, we're going to find out just how much.

I'm tipping if you win the flag this year, he might think dollars, if not, he'll want a flag with you.

If he signs it'll be before September though, and I doubt we'd be intetested in a one year deal. It's his wishes. If the reports are true you guys are gonna have to convince him. Then give us fair trade value.

Which would be?

That he's uncontracted means we have a very slight advantage, but there's a lot of water to go under the bridge.

Most likely he re-signs in August.

Mmmm
I think he's probably worth more than Treloar, but you'te probably not as dumb as Collingwood, who seem to constantly overrate their ladder position. It wouldn't ne hard to get interest from other Melbourne clubs.
Hypothetically he nominates you and first rounder plus future 2nd?

Not far off what I thought. A first and a swap of second round picks. Anyway, like Martin at Richmond, I believe both will stay anyway.

Hoppers trade value will depend on how he goes this year.

If he settles as a first team regular and continues to progress from what we saw last year, then you'd need a top 10 pick at least.

If not, it will be a Jack Steele type situation.

But we won't want to trade him if we can avoid it.

You would think Treloar would be the high water mark. He was comfortably the best performed of our young players. Better than Kelly at the same stage.

If North have about pick 5 then something like that plus a later pick.

Would be great if everyone re-signs by May and this thread dries up...

It's not crazy at all in fact given your 1st rounder this year is going to more than likely be a very early pick I wouldn't mind it at all.

If anyone thinks Hopper is worth more than a very early pick and best 22 player they are having a laugh. One day he might be worth more but on exposed form he is not.

We need them to stay, to me it's tje players

Fair enough opinion but I differ a little. I think Shiel was more valuable at the end of 2015. Teloar was good at that stage but he never matched Shiel's vision and creativity to me.
I will always remember in tje Spotless game against the Swans he seemed to give up on his teamates and just bomb it long every time he took posession. At the time we were having real issues transitioning outside with Shiel and Scully injured, but I think in a developing team it's unlikely the coaches instructions were give up.
