Meh, they've been great servants, but nothing we couldn't easily replace with free agency and trading. It's like he thinks there's a cliff and no way to avoid it. In fact, I think we already have a Simmo replacement anyway. Murphy isn't what he used to be, imo it would actually be a really good thing not to have to rely on him in the middle. To be fair, it isn't an ideal situation where we have a bunch of older players around 30 and then the kids...
In say 2 years when the kids are really roaring and we are making our way up the ladder and finals it will hurt a bit that the likes of Murphy, Simmo & Kreuz will be either gone or past their best...it's a shame since they are 3 of our best players currently (Simmo moreso before this year).
Would be really nice if they were all 2 years younger so they could actually be around at at their peak when we're playing finals.
They don't grow on treesCompletely disagree.
If we need more mids - recruit them!!!!!

He was average in the middle, not terrible.
He was average because they threw him in there adhoc. A full preseason working as a midfielder, learning tap zones, running patterns etc and he will become a general in the midfield. Generals in the midfield are hens teeth.
What would I prefer a general in the midfield or across halfback? Midfield.
They don't grow on trees
He does have a few valid points, even McKay said we were after players in that middle aged bracket.
Would've made more sense to keep Buckley and Boek and give Daisy the flick I reckon, Buckley a much better kick than Daisy and Boek much quicker.
Both were in the 24-25 age bracket too!
this - a stitch in time (gathers no moss)That's what Murphy and Cripps are there for - too many generals spoil the broth......
He can't have been that bad, he does have a highlight video...
Docherty can be as good a midfielder as Rory Sloane. If only it was that easy to 'recruit!!!!!' a player the calibre of Sloane.
A lot to like here but, You can't replace Simmo with free agency they won't bleed NAVYMeh, they've been great servants, but nothing we couldn't easily replace with free agency and trading. Wasn't that deluca? This inspired me to show Digby Morrell's highlight video.
If you can't see him, it's because Digby is hiding behind my post....
2018 - top 12I still stick by my statement we are 5 years away, that's not necessarily a bad thing, year 1 we are on a merry go round, year 2 it's like a gravatron by year 5 we are on the Green lantern at movie world!
At the moment we are definitely at the merry go round stage it's constantly stopping and changing people. The Green lantern is 5 years away, meanwhile enjoy the ride! Hope you enjoy my analogy!
Love Simmo, but Williamson will offer more long term imo.A lot to like here but, You can't replace Simmo with free agency they won't bleed NAVY
To the back pocket ... The Club.Let me frame this for you in a different way...
Why do clubs often say about flankers "we see him progressing into the midfield"but you never hear them talk about midfielders progressing to halfback?
Yeah- you dont have to be a rocket surgeon....That's what Murphy and Cripps are there for - too many generals spoil the broth......
Not definitive ...If someone can be bothered compiling a list of our players age from:
18-22
23-27
28+
I think the middle tier might be a bit light on.
Think we have a crack at landing Dylan Shiel or Josh Kelly at the end of a Season 2019.To be fair, it isn't an ideal situation where we have a bunch of older players around 30 and then the kids...

I fess up as one who thought we wouldn’t cut so deep this year (but would finish the job next year in a better draft).Although l’m comfortable with all the delistings l remember our discussions on the number of delistings likely this year. Generally people thought there could only be so many changes and some of the fringe players would be kept for 1 more year.
With 13 list changes for 2017 Sos put an end to the theory of keeping fringe players. He just continues to cut hard, no mucking around. Once he decides a player just isn’t up to it , he cuts them.
10 changes from main list.
3 rookies gone.
Added to main list.
Lobbe, Lang,Kennedy,mullet
Leaves 6 main draft picks.
Is this correct? Seems like a lot.
Ps. Nick graham survived. So 1 fringe player kept.

I think a more realistic scenario is top 4 in 2022 - 2023, although I hope you right2018 - top 12
2019 - top 8
2020 - top 4 and challenging for a flag
Anything slower than this is wasting time IMO and our list management and coaches should come under scrutiny.

I like what SOS and Bolts are doing.
2018 I think will be our ‘hump year’ where natural improvement in our large group of young players sees us slowly rise into the 13th - 15th on the ladder ...
Hawks finished round the bottom 4 in 2004 and won the flag on 08 I don't think we need to wait until 22/23 before challenging. This years and next years draft are crucial.I think a more realistic scenario is top 4 in 2022 - 2023, although I hope you right
