David Zaharakis is 27 years of age. He is having a career year. He would cost an arm and a leg to get across and is not worth it for somebody who is not within the age group of the players that we're targeting (preferably younger than 24).
Front runner that goes missing in tough games.

He isn't at the rebuild age but will be that experienced head we will be missing when we actually make a grand final

Intresting convo tonight on , On the couch when asked who is closer to a premiership between us the lions and the filth everyone thought Brisbane was with their spine and overall list depth.
Right now I agree Brisbane have the better list with potentials, however I still think we are 6 to 7 quality players short of being an absolute force.
Thoughts ?

We speak about SOS' connection with GWS in helping to lure players, and recently Eade has been mentioned as a possibility to lure GCS players.

Is it strange that no Hawks players have come across?

They have a more even spread of players.Their spine is similar to ours.Beams,Zorko,Rockliff,Martin compared to Cripps,Gibbs,Murphy,Krez. We need to add more midfield depth (which we're all aware of)Both quite similar though.Pies have good midfield depth but lack KP players.

Not at all.

Pains me to say it, but they are by any measure the perfect example of how a club should operate, and I'd imagine that includes a very robust 'sense of belonging/culture'...however you want to describe it.

Well Brisbane do definitely have more quality youngsters on their list right now than us...even if we do have quite a lot.

They have drafted quite well over a period of time and have had academy assistance and last year a PP. We only started drafting/trading well at the end of 2015.

Disagree about their spine being better than ours though...they are at worst equal. Realistically i think ours is better particularly our key defenders.

Would settle JustaBattler's mongrel thread once and for all...

Lamb was point man on a strategy of pressuring Sicily but quite a few players were putting physical pressure on him at every opportunity - and it worked a treat...no accident that Sicily's brain fades were significant contributors to the win via free kicks in our 50...DOH

Bolton picks his targets for a team based mongrelling - it was a team effort against Gablett and similar team effort on the Sydney young gun Mills...( hands up those with short memories ?) strategy didn't work against Suns but contributed a lot to win against Sydney = their rebound was very much stunted and Alex did a great job on Buddy....

I have no problem with the sillies who think mongrel is irrelevant - would put money on the fact that anyone that thinks a bit of mongrel is irrelevant has never played any form of contact sport at any serious level.

The mongrel meme is here to stay and I will be posting my mongrel team after the game against ShitneyCOLA -there are a lot of gaps to be filled...

but the coach isn't one of them.;)

No. Their older players are too old to contribute to what we're building and are playing out their days teaching their younger players what it means to be Hawthorn. Their younger players can see the opportunities that are opening up to them by remaining at Hawthorn. If we ever get any of Bolton's lads it'll be when we're in premiership contention and Hawthorn aren't.

I commented yesterday to a colleague that the job on Sicily followed jobs on Ablett and Mills earlier in the year.

What I liked most about these incidents is that ironically I thought they showed discipline.

This kind of football is not natural to our genteel playing list. But the coaches gave them a directive and they executed. In particular in the Gaz and Mills 'tags', it was a team effort.

I don't really want to see us constantly roughing up players, but to see the players be pushed out of their comfort zones, adding another element to their games and clearly sticking to a somewhat foreign directive was great to see.

Great post.

I agree, don't want to see it as a weekly tactic, although needs to be used from time to time, to upset balance.

Was a little surprised that we didn't target JJ from the Dogs, when Buckley came into the side, I think it could've been a way the coaching staff could have reinvented him, as a tagger/serial pest
