Bookmark that soap will be bloody interesting see the 22 mid next year ....

I am truly excited by CFC this year and what has been achieved in 2 off seasons so far. It is nothing short of monumental what the Club/Bolts/SOS has achieved in such a short time.

My vocabulary isn't at that the level that would truly show my agreeance with this statement :thumbsu:

Cam Guthrie, Isaac Smith, Jeremy McGovern, Luke Dahlhaus, Tom Lynch.

I've be approaching those 5 in particular. McGovern and Lynch would be very difficult gets but not impossible, I reckon, Guthrie dependent on how Geelong go this year and next. Dahlhaus might be squeezed by the Dog's big spending, and doesn't have family ties to the club.

Smith the most gettable of that lot with Hawthorn's epic fall from grace - he's also a very good example of a "cherry" type player that you could add once the bulk of the list is going well.

Cam Guthrie is being played as a small defender but has killed it as a MID in numerous games.

I would definitely have a good look at him.

He will know we need MID's and if he came to Blues we could almost guarantee him that's where he would be playing.

Where do we get the required players from, then? We can't give up too many high draft picks because that leaves too many holes in the side and leaves the side too weighted towards players playing for themselves and the money. We can't give up players that other teams might rate because that leaves us susceptible in the short term. We can't simply rely on our own own draft picks because not all drafts are deep and we are slowly rising up the ladder (and are already missing a second round selection) which means the selections aren't going to be that high.

I give up! :drunk:
Dont trade your good players. Other clubs have managed to improve their lists without losing good players on a regular basis.
I am not sure what the answer is either, but having a team full of kids is not the answer either. We need the right balance of experience and youth.

I have just finished a lengthy phone-call with a long-time Melbourne-based friend who is also a mad Blues fan. He has been watching the reserves live a fair bit this year and made special mention of Liam Jones and how it appears he is being groomed to play in defence as a CHB. He has noticed Bolton having long chats with him about how to play the position plus pinch-hit in the ruck when the ball is at that end of the ground.

Whilst I have always been extremely sceptical about him as a forward (he will be delisted if he wants to remain a forward), this may be an interesting experiment to watch and I would even concede that it would be great if it did work out for him in defence.

My friend is totally convinced that Jones will emerge as a no-frills but highly effective gorilla-taming CHB. At 198cm & 98kg, he has the physical attributes to succeed in the role and given his inability to nail it as a key forward, this may be a win-win for both parties.
Rowe was a forward who wasn't making it... and then got moved back into defence and appears to be having a career best year (again).

SOS originally was a forward who moved into defence and killed it. Weitering was mostly a forward as a junior until he got moved full-time into defence. Why can't we do the same with Jones.

becuse he has had multiple chances at afl level, our backline is settled and he is NOT good enough.

How many flags have Sydney won since they have Buddy, Tippett and Reid?
KPF need to have great mids for supply.
Bulldogs won the flag on the back of Boyd and Redpath alternating Rucks. The rest were all smaller mids/forward running types.
Hawks dominated with only Rough head as there KPF. The rest were flankers and running types.
West coast have J.Kennedy and Darling and haven't won a flag either.

Hawks had Roughie and Buddy
Cats had Hawkins and Mooney
Pies had Cloke

We keep shipping out great players who continually do the things that we want our young players to do and we are probably unlikely to have another successful era. Be interested to hear when the strategy of clearing out all heart and soul players players for draft picks has ever worked.

Not a fan of getting Reid in to CFC. Not a step up on the potential of any of young guys, cost in $$$ (did I hear $500K+ over 3+ years) will be high and I do not expect output to match. He kicked 6 goals in one game this year which is awesome, but has only kicked 5 goals in 6 other games. If you stop Buddy you stop the Swans, and Reid is not getting free despite the best defenders focusing on Buddy. Is Reid better than Weitering or Casboult? Just cannot see why we should bother as it slows down McKay and Kerr and BSOS getting games and developing.

Also sends the wrong message to the group after SOS has pushed down Wages (refer Casboult, Touhy, etc.) and I think our $$$ resources can be better spent elsewhere.

With the increased cap it has been reported $700,000-$800,000 for Reid and $700,000 for Jones. That was David Kibg though.

Two things, I still don't see Adelaide stumping up a first and second for Gibbs and secondly, which one's of these top 15 picks will SOS be using to get Hopper and Kennedy?

1 - Well I can see it. We may have to throw our 3rd rounder back as well but I'm ok with that. When it becomes clear as day that they need a mid like Gibbs they will want to pay.

2 - I really, really, really hate the idea of getting Hopper and Kennedy by sacrificing a top 15 pick. It sucks. We should draft our own stars and let them all grow together. I see it as pick 15 for Hopper. Kennedy is just the steak knives to relieve cap space for them.

If Sam Reid gets 700+k you'd expect that may be enough for the Swans to get band 1.

If they finish below us, quite possible, that means we... A) don't get any compensation if Kreuzer or Casboult sign elsewhere and B) downgrade our own first round draft pick.

PASS. While Sam Reid is a solid AFL-grade key position player he is not nearly good enough to take a double hit.

If anyone is going to sign Sam Reid to that type of money I would suspect it would be Collingwood so Ben can finish out his career with him and that they can give Darcy Moore some support as the kid is struggling massively without a veteran to help alleviate the pressure on him.

Rowe and ASOS are both on 1 year contracts and are both close to 30. Rowe might be considering retiring come the end of the year which means that we will be sort short some large bodied experienced defenders to support the kids as they get to 50 games.

If Jones can do the job in defence and if Rowe retires come the end of the year, then it might be good to utilise Jones as the gorilla full back!

Why would Rowe retire? He will be given a two year contract

Kennedy is just the steak knives to relieve cap space for them.

This is not correct IMO.

Kennedy is a very talented young footballer who the Giants won't want to lose. They're not moving him on unless he initiates it. He's not steak knives in any deal - he's a lot better than that.

If you're looking to relieve cap space you don't get rid of someone on a rookie contract.

Why did they not keep Cloke...weird

Reid is definitely not an A grader, so 800K seems way too high. It's true the club needs to invest in players but this type of money would be better spent on players that would be top 5-10 on the list. Players that will have a real impact.

Jaksch and Jones could play the same role as Reid for a fraction of the price and they can't even get a game at present.
You'd think Reid would get a game in our Senior 22 ahead of Jaksch and Jones?
Gives McKay a bit more time to develop in VFL and allows us to spend our draft picks on mids, mids, mids ...
If Casboult takes a FA contract with another club, we could take the FA compensation or we could bring in Reid as the right replacement.

It's a no re Reid for mine .
I'm hoping Casboult can net us some FA compo at seasons end keeping in mind we currently don't hold a 2nd rounder .
Bringing in Reid (on big $) would wipe out any such compo .
He has injury history and if we are looking for a stop gap until McKay is ready , Jaksch or Jones can fill the breach for far less .
I think Reid can fill the breach far better than Jaksch and Jones (if we were to keep them). Allows McKay more time to develop in the VFL if he needs it.
Weiters might go back if either Alex SOS or Rowe is injured or the form declines.

Signed a 2 year contract last year.

If they move a ruck on at the end of the year it'll be Goldstein.

So that would have Pruess out of contract at the end of this season ?
If so , we should be having a serious crack at him .
I think that North would like to keep both Goldy and Pruess but there is a bit to be considered .
Goldy holds a lucrative contract which at his age and taking into account both injury and tapering performance , other clubs might be reluctant to take on board .
So if Goldy remains , he continues as the number 1 ruckman .
If Pruess is indeed out of contract at seasons end and any other club (hopefully Carlton) were able to convince him to request a trade and nominate them on the back of a generous contract and the number 1 ruck position , North would have little control over the matter and be bound to lose him .
At 21 years of age with his size , aggression and encouraging early displays , Pruess would be the perfect fit going forward with our emerging team .
Happy for Kruezer to stay and with a reduced workload , his battered body might well see out a few more seasons .
If Kruezer decides to leave as is his right as an unrestricted FA , the compo pick we would receive could be the guts of the deal to land Pruess .
