Such a shame we're not an attractive destination for GWS discards... quite a few are still top 20 picks and would easily fit into our best 22... they go for way to cheap just because GWS need to offload. AFL has created another artificial system where Vic clubs are bearing the fruits of GWS.

I wouldnt be trading away next years draft picks, we still have a half doz list cloggers that will need replacing at the end of 2018. We dont want to leave ourselves short and miss out on a gun through trade or draft.

Tomlinson is a great kick off both feet and much stronger than Paparone. Has an elite tank as well. He is miles ahead of Paparone in just about every aspect

Didn't go hard enough twice on the Preliminary Final, once was a really poor short arm attempt. Is an annual event his name being bandied around at trade period. This time after that final I wouldn't be surprised if GWS let him go if they get a nice offer, despite being contracted.

Absolutely, with a possible 4 picks in the top 20 this year of a supposedly weak draft I don't quite get why we would give a future second in a supposedly very strong draft.

If this 5 year Tomlinson thing is real and Saints were willing to part with 8, I wonder if GWS be interested in 12 + 19 for 8 + 24?

Lucky Bombers if they get all the players wanting to join them. They will have to give up a good player along with some good draft picks to make it all happen.

Feel really bad for the Crows. It's pretty hard to make a grand final and then to lose it in the way that they did and lose 2 best 22 players is salt to the wound.

I wonder how many other trades are going to be held up for 95 percent of trade week on account of Dodoro being a complete and utter banker.

The AFL might need a rebrand. Although the NAB AFL Mediation Period doesn’t sound quite as sexy

Let’s look back on our emotion this time last year compared to this year. We just had a new coach - so optimistic. We were facing losing Hanley and gaining Jack Frost.
Wow What a difference 12 months makes.

I don't think they can afford to let him go. There have been quite a few that have left over the past few years and depth must now be a concern.

Moving down four at the pointy end to move up 5 in the middle, not sure they'd jump at that.

Probably not, just looking for ways to get a second pick in the top 10.

Tend to agree, just depends on how internally filthy they were by the couple of ordinary actions. That can stamp a card, & if they can get something favorable they may just be tempted this time around.

So at this very early stage the net trade period is looking like:

IN
- Hodge for late pick
- Cameron (if they let him go) for Rocky compo

Out
- Rocky

Solid so far, will be interested to see what else we can do.

Just re. Rockliff compo, if Frawley got 2.2 mil over 4 years (550 per year) for band one compo (26 yrs old) if rockliffs (27) deal is as long and he is being payed more, is it still plausible we could get band one compo? Or are there other factors as well

The salary cap is higher now, nobody knows for sure the cut off figure but IIRC he has to be in the top 5% of earners over the age of 25, anyone???

Most of the talk is we are no chance of band 1, he would likely have to be earning a minimum of around 800-850K per year over 4 years for us to get pick 2.

All I have been hearing today is the magpies are the main courters

Just read that Saints apparently are interested but that 5 year offer rumour was false. Hadn't heard the Pies were interested but doesn't surprise me considering how much they need that extra tall and preferably one ready to go.

I agree it would have to be something at least that starts in the $800k region to get tier 1 compo. I hope there's a bit of wheeling and dealing between the two clubs in regards to Lobbe so that Port can also go after Motlop. If not I don't see why we would be going after Lobbe at all.

Difficult to say. Looking at this chart from March this year there were 718 listed players in 2016 so 5% is 36 players. Only 32 were paid over $700k. Fyfe and Dusty have joined the big earners now but I can't think of anyone else that has re-signed for big bucks. It's also presumable that Ablett and possibly some others have dropped out and I'm not sure if Boyd's contract is weighed with Rocky due to his age group. Regardless, anything over $700k has to put us in the ball park as it instantly puts him in the top 5% of earners. $750k or over and it's gotta be virtually guaranteed to be band 1. $800k+ (lot to pay for Rocky but we'll see) and there's no way it's not band 1.

Going just off that table you'd think we'd get band 1, how much was the Port contract? 720k was it?

This is the false hope that I never needed

I wouldn't have a clue but pretty sure someone on here said $720k which would/should put band 1 firmly in the conversation. There's always going to be variables though, as we know with the AFL nothing is definite no matter what precedent has been set. I guess we've really just gotta wait until tomorrow morning when we actually see Port's offer.
