I wasn't on big footy in 2013. Both Martin and conca for memory were out of contract. Martin met with a bunch of clubs at the time including west coast. A number of clubs at the time stated that they were not prepared to take Martin on for the money he was demanding. He ended up resigning with Richmond. So yes we definitely could have got him if we paid overs at the time. Not sure we'd still have him on our list though
I don't think Martin was gettable. He wants to get paid every cent he's worth but he also clearly doesn't want to leave Richmond.

Twice he has 'all but accepted' offers from a rival club. In 2013 he basically told Richmond he was leaving. This year he led everyone to believe he would take the best monetary offer, then signed with Richmond again for less. It was a show. And good on him, I don't begrudge a guy seeing what he's worth, but I'm just saying that in 2013 any meeting that may have happened with us would've been for Richmond's eyes.

Whys that DS?
Like Thorne said, one is a genuine zippy small forward and crumber, the other is a poor mans Lecras.

Matera i could live with at the feet of JK and Darling each week. Has a lot of crab about him IMO but i think in a decent team with the attributes and football smarts he has, he could still put up 30+ goals a season and really add something.

Fasolo is just another medium forward. Skillful sure, and i love the fact he's got a booming kick, but that's about all. Can still find the goals and apparently puts up decent goal assist numbers, but i don't see as much here, or where he'd fit into our forward line.

I don't want either of them. Vozzo will balls up the Fasolo trade for sure and overpay. Matera was gettable LAST season, his value has skyrocketed this year after his good first half

They originally had trouble getting him to training which has been sorted he's had a good year at Subi top goal kicker 70 odd goals I think finished third in the out ridge medal but both last year and this year struggled in the GF not sure if they'd want to chance him with those other problems though

Those other passionate supporters of his would probably toe the line if he was given a chance to start a Afl career and follow his dream ..

Agree

Even though Martin signed for less than he could have got elsewhere he forced Richmond to add a extra $300,000 per year to their initial contract offer ..

Yeo should be there by now, he is not an 18 year old kid and Duggan while still only 20 has played nearly 50 games also so how much more development you reckon they have in them.
Isn't 50 games the magical number these days that tells you or you need to know about a player?

Woosha said 70 to 75 games so probably 4 or 5 preseason trainings..

I really hope we dont get fasolo, plenty of small fowards from crappy draft positions can come in and impact straight away.fasolo is dead average and has other issues on top

Fasolo is not average but I agree I hope we dont get gim in for anything but a 3rd rounder.

Even that pick can land a very promicing small forward like a Miers, Butler or Costanga.

Christ it's now blown out to over a quarter of a career. If our club are operating off this template then it's no wonder we hold on to do many average players so long. If they don't have a foot print on a player after 25 games then they are muppets running our club.

Well if they get drafted at 18yrs old and when they get to 22-24 yrs old this when they really show there worth ..Obviously the better more gifted players develop earlier ..The Masten and Sheppard types was who Woosha was referring too I think..

I agree that is how they look at it I just don't see it like that.
Don't they get drafted because they are exceptionally good footballers?
You don't take 4 years to become a man, in fact in pretty much all of society you are a man at 18.
So how long should it take you to pick up the speed of the AFL as you are already an exceptionally good footballer which is why you were drafted.
Just another example of the molly coddling we do with our young people today or maybe there is simply a lot of very average footballers getting drafted which I think is more on point.

At the rate we've been playing our young guys it'll take them until they're 30 to play 75 games

Muppets running the club? There are plenty of muppets on here who have been telling us tunbridge was worth persevering with when he's been obviously not afl level and should have been cut after 2013 yet he got 4 more years

And the club followed that thought pattern and kept him on the list.

The draft pool has been diluted with the addition of GCS and GWS IMO allowing a extra say 70- 80 players that shouldn’t be on a AFL list ..

Totally agree, so stop holding on yo them hoping they will deliver something they are not capable of delivering on.

Games played at WAFL level count as well it may be 120 to 130 games as a apprenticeship..
# Well it used too be but that may have been reduced now with more professional training and resources ..

I think with LeCras and Hill on the way out shortly and with Cripps struggling we could easily find a spot for another medium forward. It's not an area we have particularly quality depth in. If you just don't rate Fasolo then fair enough he seems to divide a few people anyway.

As for Matera, I actually still expect him to be cheap as chips although I do still want us to take five or so picks this year, so would rather hang onto the late pick to be honest.

As you say, Liam Ryan over both.
