People say Ryan is not worth pick 30 .

How many of you would use pick 30 on a young Eddie Betts?

Small forwards are underrated.

Look what Richmond are doing - having skilful small forwards that can apply F50 pressure and tackles is the way forward
Ryan doesn't apply any forward pressure

Ryan doesn't apply any forward pressure

He applies at least as much as Lecca. And unlike him he has actual pace. Further, unlike most of the others we rotate through the forward line he has natural goal sense, creativity and "magic".

But sure, let's focus on a negative (something entirely fixable) instead of all the things he brings to the table that we have in almost zero supply.

With all his pace and 'magic' ryan only averages 1.5 tackles a game . Can't run through the midfield or high half forward like lecras .
Lecras is old and needs to go but he would run rings around ryan who would Gas in about 2 mins .
I'm all for getting ryan but unless his attitude towards his fitness and defensive pressure changes drastically he won't get a game at afl level .

Maybe. That's why rookie listing him last year made some sense. High reward/Low risk.

He averaged almost 4 goals a game though, but sure he wouldn't match Cripps for tackling pressure.

You honestly sound like an English football team selector from the 1980's. Craig Johnstone over Glenn Hoddle.

Our team needs to inject talent into the club. It ain't all going to work out but **** me we are hugely talent deficient.

I'm all for getting ryan and was last year too but you have too be a realist . If you think he is going to come in and dominate at afl level you will be mistaken . If you think he applies more pressure than lecras your mistaken . That's how poor his work rate is.
Ryan plays as a stay at home forward at wafl level a lot of the time and that won't happen at afl level either , he will have to push up the ground and run back to goals

I guess I rate pick 30 differently to you.
Fair enough, but i think somebody will pounce before the rookie draft.
how old is he? 20-22?
Lots to work with

If he didn't improve on this year he'd be in trouble. But we'll see.

How do you think he would fare as a genuine outside mid?

Personally I would love to see his pace and skills on display as a wingman driving the ball forward rather than developing him as a third tall defender.

Pick 30 is for Tim Kelly anyways

In an ideal world we should try and nab 2 more picks between 35-45 to grab Ryan and Kelly. Think we will have to overpay slightly to make sure they are on the list but 30 is too early for either of them (despite what I said partially tongue-in-cheek in another thread).

I think if we can get creative with deal for Masten and trying to upgrade pick 48 slightly we could definitely get it done.

13: Jack Higgins/Hunter Clark etc
30: Lachlan Fogarty/Oscar Allen/Callum Coleman-Jones
38: Tim Kelly
45: Liam Ryan

The idealistic draft scenarios have begun!

**** me. This thread moves fast.i come back from the beach and we have moved 4 pages on.

Thing is at least Matt was playing reasonable football in 2016. Drew still was in 2017.

Lecras is absolutely cooked. So slow, in both running AND decision making. He's a full second behind everyone else on the field.

He plays on again and it will be half a season of shit form, couple of fake injuries and we'll either carry him all year into retirement or he'll go mid season.

Either way it'd be a pointless, counter productive decision by the club. He's had his time and he's simply not good enough now, it's time to give younger players some opportunities.
Yeh - but he has credits in the bank and you have to back him in
