And what has led you to that conclusion?

Probably Richmond`s advantage to finish 4th and then play all the finals at their homeground..

Now Richmond were fantastic and can`t take away from them their committement and effort but a big advantage and momentum build-up to not travel and be really familiar at the ground ..

Will be gone but a similar player in Jack Petrucelli who is less polished at this stage may be available with our 2nd pick ..

Petrucelli is very , very raw.
He does have huge upside but he also has a lot to learn.
Very much a project player and I am not sure we can afford the time he will require to develop with an early pick.
I see him coming off the board in the 16-24 range.

The last two flags should have teams from 15 teams thinking with a bit of luck, sweat and a lot of hard work they too could be premiership players next season.

Dogs and Tigers have proven anything is possible if you want it bad enough.

Can't do what they did with players like Wellingham, masten, Lecras, Hurn etc they just dont want it bad enough.

Can't do what they did with players like Wellingham, masten, Lecras, Hurn etc they just dont want it bad enough.

Also shows that a swarm of hungry small-medium sized players will make tall teams look very very slow.

It makes you wonder what NN's true value is given his lack of endurance means we always need to play a second ruckman.

Or maybe we scrap the second ruckman idea and go with Darling as second ruck - I mean, ****, the two most recent premiers have used smaller players as their second rucks.

Can we seriously afford to play Vardy, Kennedy and Darling in the same forwardline?

I hope we are able to be flexible enough to pick and choose our forwardline based on the opposition. We would have been fine with that set up against Adelaide, but that Richmond side needed a different approach. Jenkins, Otten, Walker, Lynch, Talia, Lever, Hartigan and Jacobs....sheesh.

Agree probably goes to a team that can afford the luxury of a low draft pick taking a few years to develop maybe Carlton who do take a few risks ..

Been this way for 5 or 6 years, our best players are all talls so we tend to go in with a tall side that can't keep up with the opposition defensively. Our best season in the last 10 years has been when we've been forced to go short because of injury.

Darling is not a giant at 192cm and agee we definitely can`t do NN,Vardy and Lycett who I would see as tradeable this year ..

Can remember when Mick Malthouse was coach that he normally liked to play 9 talls - how the game has changed - not for the better in my opinion as what happens to all the young talent coming through who happen to be on the tall side?

There's still a lot of younger talls coming through that are athletic as **** and as nimble as ever. Those kids will get picked. The lumbering sorts won't. I don't think the talls will die out tbh. Adelaide chocked big time and if they won people would have talked about their talls as they have probably been the tallest side all season.

The optimal number of talls is 6-7 and i think that trend will still be there for a while.

I dont think the talls matter if you have a reasonable midfield with some pace. We looked slow during the year due to too many slow mids

Disagree I think 5-6 talls is plenty for us going forward.

This imo is ideal:

F: Jk darling
B: gov barrass
R: nic

Could add one more tall to suit the team we are coming up against.

Strong rucks? Add slyce or vards
Need lock down defender? Add eMac

Rest of our talks are very tradable

They started the game well and were in the game at half time and there were moments even in the third that they could have got them selves into the game as the tigers hadn't nailed them in. They looked absolutely shell shocked after half time (even tho the deficit was around the 20 odd points mark). Sloane who started so well was average in the second, tex was garbage(minus the junk time goal), Jacobs had minimal influence despite the hitouts(rucked heaps against a midget as well, talia was week, atkins was non existent (finished 2nd or third in their brownlow count). The only two thats fought hard were the crouch brothers.

I don't totally agree with that article regarding the teams midfield quality.

Richmond's midfielders are quality especially Martin and cotchin.
He mentions two of the greatest midfield setups in history and one of those won three flags in a row. We may have if not for off field issues.
Both teams had honest battlers that worked their arses off. Brisbane's team had more quality across the board but can he argue that the likes of Butler, Rowan Jones Steven armstrong are any better than Richmond's lesser players?

All premierships sides have their honest battlers that aren't superstars and the one trait that is common for all of these players is they have the attitude of manic pressure.

Even the eagles 94 premiership side had Shane bond.
North Melbourne had Cameron Mooney in 99 who didn't even touch the ball.

I do agree with the mcg Vic bias though.

Hart was AA, Evans was one of the best finals performers ever at WC, at the other two were very good players

That's a big statement, although I do see a possibility. Who replaces priddis, Mitchell and petrie?

Sheed and redden will take over the centre square work . Priddis and Mitchell were great players but on their last legs and their output was way down on previous year . Their defensive pressure was also non existent .

Natanui back will be massive as we were competitive in almost every game even though we were smashed in the hit outs and clearances .
Our defence is great and so is our forwards . We just need to complete better in the midfield to win games .

That being said we have no idea how we will play on the new stadium . It could be a fortress or we may struggle with the different shape/size oval
