What if we passed on Jelly and he goes to Norf and then 2 years later we're still cashed up but playing pissant finals that mean nothing and going nowhere?

You never ever pass on a talent like Kelly if he's available and willing to come. He's not just playing for 2018 then packing up! If you told that to Richo and the team that we shouldn't get a star player because the timing isn't 100% perfect what would they say?

It's not like the star we are trying to get only has two to three more years left in him. He's got at least 8 to 10 and you hope we'd be challenging in that time frame!!
Players like this are not just available all the time, and especially when we are in a position of strength salary cap wise etc. that we haven't ever been in before.
We have to strike while the iron is hot.

The only counter to that would be that GWS is not really a club under a lot of scrutiny. Being in the Melbourne fishbowl is pretty oppressive.

Agreed re: location affecting media but I'd also suggest given GWS's heavy flag favouritism pre-season and their "struggles" at times this year, they're probably getting as much focus as any side in it right now. But you can cut it in many ways depending on how you want to look at it I suppose.

Take into account that if we don't spend 105% of the cap next year, we lose the right to pay 105% in 2018 & 2019. And we have about $3mil extra in the cap for next year

We literally have to spend 105% starting next year and it's not going on two 18 year old draftees that's for sure.

perspective badec on your opinion our players arent good enough.

Others opinion is they are good enough just not developed enough.

If your opinion is correct two dps is the correct way to go.

If the other opinion is correct Kelly is the go.
Only time will tell and like all opinions whatever happens the other can always argue it would have been better to go the other way.
