GOAL KICKING expert Ben Dixon says dedicated goal kicking programs are guaranteed to improve players’ set-shot accuracy within one year.

Clubs such as Richmond, St Kilda and Western Bulldogs continue to be dogged by inaccurate goal kicking with the three clubs kicking a combined 40 goals 54 behinds at the weekend.

Dixon was adamant goal kicking was one of the most neglected and overlooked areas of the game and said every team should have a specialist goal kicking coach.

Dixon for Dempster. Seems like a fair trade.

On Dixon, he was a guest on JYB on SEN where they interview past players. incredibly insightful regarding the training requirements for a forward and how much discipline and effort need to go into goal kicking and the training required. If anyone can get a hold of it its a good listen.

Holy shit. News dropping thick and fast. Clubs aren't ******* around.

Jeff Kennett back to Hawthorn.

Pies have a new list boss. What's happened to Hine?

As in the same ned guy who is devon smiths current manager?

Err, i think that might give them a tiny leg up in the race for dev's signature

What's your take on this?

I'm comfortable with it as long as it results in one of ldu Dow or Rayner..

PROVIDING we still bring in another player like smith as I don't believe drafting 1 player will be good enough regardless of how elite they might be

I'm GetASaintUpYa and that's my take

How do you see the proposed trade working?

Are carlton looking for picks for the horde of players they're after? But won't they get more for Gibbs

Carlisle likes a bit of biff

Webster doesn't mind confrontation. Newness is not shy. Geary will give the opposition a spray. Savage will stand up to an opponent. Longer will point out the score board. McCartin will bash your fist with the back of his head.

Forget the biff though. We don't need to be aggressive physically. We need to be aggressive with how we attack and defend. Jack Sinclair can spot players up on a dime, so they need to start running to really aggressive offensive positions, and Jack needs to back himself in and send it there.

There is nothing wrong with the our kicking.

There's plenty wrong with how stuffed our guys are when taking a shot at goal.

Either they aren't fit enough or the gameplan is too strenuous. (Maybe both?)

No matter how much kicking coaching you've had....technique goes out the window when your legs are jelly and your heart is beating out of your chest at 200bpm.
I disagree. Technique, routine, etc, become even more important when tired. I fully understand the effect tiredness has, and it can't be completely overcome, but it can be better dealt with through a variety of improvements. Our poor goal kicking often occurs early in games (and I know that players can be still tired early throughout repeat sprinting), so I don't subscribe to them having jelly legs much mroe often than the rest of the AFL who statistically do it better than us.

It is often obvious before certain players take their set shots that they lack confidence and purpose. That is independent of tiredness, but may be made worse from tiredness.

In addition, Billings and Gresham are great field kicks, and are incredibly clever and skilful, but they have clear technical deficincies when it comes to goalkicking. If coaching isn't used to target improving this, then we might as well give up now.

By the way, I think this is the best coaching appointment that we could make. Go Dicko.

Saw that, 7 and 8 for 3 straight swap seems good to me... must have one of LDU, Rayner or Dow in mind
Pick 3 is about to become Pick 4 when Rockliff signs - it's too high to give up both 7 & 8 (or now 8 & 9). I'd only consider that sort of deal with Bris or maybe GC.

Both I think

So he goes to Collingwood as list manager with two of his players up to their eyeballs in changing clubs....

that's a little like insider trading don't you think? o_O
