Yeh that Vid on Rozee makes him look very clean by hand and foot. Top mids in the draft

Rankine, Walsh , Blakey, Bytel, Rozee, hately, Hill

Any of them would be handy, if the 3 big talls are gone by the time we get a pick...

No losers in the first round really.... unless you’ve traded out your first rounder!

I have Curtis Taylor, Tarryn Thomas and Bailey Smith in the likely top midfielders as well, whilst I have Bytel with Caldwell a little bit back from those. Ian Hill is the best WA midfielder, but I think Tom Joyce will catch up and has been putting up good numbers; should be around the Bytel mark in the 10 - 25 mark. And there is also Jason Carter in there as well.

Blakey is a bit of a utility; at 193cm he has played as a key forward but also all over the field.

What would we need to bundle with our first round pick (say pick 10) to get us pick 1 or 2 and a shot at Lukosius?

Not worth the thought. If a team finished 18th / 17th this year - the reward they would want to get from a long season is one of Lukosius or Rankine. The trade would require a good player and the pick, maybe even next years 1st Rounder instead of a good player.

If you're Carlton you'd want our next two first round picks, with next years expected to be worse than this seasons. Pick #10 and Pick#14 for pick #2.

Not a deal I'd want to make. They would feel like they got robbed too.

I think Hill would be terrific, but he is a long way from a "need" for us. Lukosius looks like someone who is ready to come in and have an early impact for us, and I wonder if the club would be willing to make a sacrifice to get him. I would.

I wonder if any of our young Victorians may come into play if they want to go home.

Don't think any of our victorians are any chance of getting us pick 1 or 2 unless we are packaging them with pick 5 or 6 in which case I'd rather just use that at the draft.

I genuinely expect at least one of the kings to be available as late as 7 or 8 (probably Max off the ACL). I think if we want one, this is the year for a KPF, but I don't see us doing it. Best available mid/utility IMO.

I think skill and speed will beat most teams, even if we have the likes of Dixon and Taberner as our key forwards.

Hey that's what Richmond said when they took Fiora and Tambling.
And Hawthorn were picking a player with the reputation of being the next Jonothan Brown when they picked Thorpe ahead of Selwood.

Character is key, but skills and speed please.

Tall guy who can mark and mobile otherwise but I wouldn't want to compromise our run by giving up two years of the draft for Wilson and "unproven forward".

Realistically I think we need a KPF if one is available. We have the makings of our midfield for the 6 odd years. Build depth through later picks. I think Apeness will probably be done come the end of the year and that leaves us with Dixon and Tabs as our KPF's which isn't a whole lot ( See us trying to put Johnson in as a forward for this week).

The dream would be Lukoscious to team up with Tabs but that's a pipe dream with the way we're going

iHill is a wonderul i50 kick as well. Doesn't matter how tall your forward line is if the ball comes in low and fast.
Scary to think about that isn't it? If you look at a few trades freo has done in the last 2-3 years....

GWS demanded a mid 1st rounder for Nathan Wilson on the trades board. I was thinking he was a typical half back flanker as a loose man in defence. After seeing him play for freo, He is the one that would of replaced paul Duffield as a small defender with pace and good disposal by hand or Foot. I am happy with that deal.

Brad Hill was an interesting one. I thought of him as a Des Headland type player: Looked good in a strong team like Hawthorn but would struggle at Freo as he wont have the same protection. he too has added something in freos best 22 with pace and decent kicks to our players in the forward 50. So yeah Is surprised Hawks accepted pick 23 for a triple premiership player. We could of Got him in the 2011 draft but chose Sheridan with pick 16, Crozier with pick 20 and Alex Forster with pick 29 before him. Hill was taken just after pick 30.

Joel Hamling turned out to be a Good trade. Surprised the dogs accepted pick 35 for him. Yes he was out of contract. He too was taken after pick 30 in the 2011 draft. Its a weird thing. If freo got him in the 2011 draft, he would of been behind McPharlin, Johnson and Dawson. He might of suffered the same fate like he did in Geelong and play no games from 2012-4.

Say if we finished 14th again and get pick 5, do we get the key forward or get elite talent like Ian hill?

We are going to have to pull the trigger on a key forward early eventually. They hype will probably destroy the young lad though.

How good is Ian Hill?

Personally I think there is only a small chance we take a KPF. Only because of the time it takes to develop them and the amount of time Fyfe, Sonny and Shill have at their peaks remaining. Obviously it is good to have a quality one for the 10 years after that but you can understand if we have a more short-medium term plan.

That said, one of the King twins or if by some miracle, Lukosius was there at our pick (decent chance for one of them at 5) I suspect it would be hard to ignore. I've got my money on best available mid/utility.

I guess it depends on how we rate Tabs, Dixon, Nads etc. If we think they can do the role well enough we may not bother.

iHill is as good as Rankine IMO, the only difference is iHill is short. Quick comparison is a faster, right footed Sonny based on what I saw last year.

I really like the look of Hill. To me he would come in and immediately compete with Langdon and Tucker types. We would have significant depth but only marginal improvement.

In my ideal world we would be drafting a taller, bigger bodied mid. Someone more like Mundy/Fyfe. Or Logue with the midfield ability.

Agreed, Chris25 would know more but Hately is looking better and better every week and at this stage seems like he will be available at our pick (5-10)

I was thinking we would be trumped by the scum in drafting Hill, as they certainly will fall in a heap & finish below us, before I remembered they gave their first pick away
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Seems like the year to go hard after Hogan imo, Melbourne going nowhere, picks are very valuable this year. We get a key forward it’ll not only help the club but it’ll also help the likes of Mcarthy and Tabs because they won’t be the only talls.

192cm midfielder, I won't be surprised to see him follow in Brayshaw's footprints and be a bolter.
Every club is looking for that type to build a midfield around, Saints should be all over it.

Players sub 178 cm do fall quite a bit and not a lot go in the first round.

Look at the first sub 178cm picks in the last 10 years

2017 Higgins 176cm pick 17

2016 Z Fisher 175cm pick 27

2015 Gresham 177cm pick 17

2014 Pickett 177cm pick 4

2013 Taylor 175cm pick 28

2012 Kennedy 174cm pick 18

2011 Smith 174cm pick 14

2010 Prestia 175cm pick 9

2009 Colyer 175cm pick 26

2008 Ballatyne 174cm pick 21

I Hill at 174cm will most likely see him fall but how far depends.

I can see going pick 7-15

Is sub 178 arbitrary or did you choose it to leave out 2016 pick 1 Andrew McGrath?
