Think the second one might be a sponsorship announcement

.@TobyfGreene: "It saves a lot of lines to the media, I guess. I saw what happened with Josh Kelly last year, he copped it, so I wasn't interested in that."

    Smart.

Very happy that he’s signed on.

Looking at the names left in red on the contract list....

    1 Phil Davis - 2018
    13 Isaac Cumming - 2018
    25 Lachie Keeffe - 2018
    26 Dawson Simpson - 2018
    31 Jeremy Finlayson - 2018
    32 Ryan Griffen - 2018
    33 Lachlan Tiziani - 2018
    39 Tim Mohr - 2018

The only name that really jumps out as top shelf is Philthy - and can anyone really see him going anywhere?

I can see big Daws getting another gig depending on the season - Lobb & injuries, Flynn & development.

Griffen, for mine, would need to prove himself - he’s getting on and injuries last year weren’t kind. Though there is a loyalty thing happening with Leon there. If he’s re-signs it will be for a year at the most and I don’t really have a problem with that.

I think this might be the last year for the Bear, which will be sad, but not unexpected.

Cumming TOJ and Tiziani should all be offered a basic 2 year extension (at not huge coin) and depending on their seasons and their development, will probably take it. Happy with that. I want them to stay but won’t be crying in my pillow if they don’t.

Lachie Keefe - meh. Show me something first.

So there’s nothing really urgent there, which gives the club time and space to work on the rather large numbers coming down the pipe next year.

Expect a few extensions for some of those guys throughout the year.

    Interesting bit at the bottom.

On the day GWS secured Toby Greene to a six-year deal — the longest contract ever signed by a Giants player — Cameron confirmed that Davis’ new deal would be confirmed as early as this week.

“Negotiations have gone really, really smoothly with Phil,” Cameron said.

Would like to think that once Phil is locked away that McCartney will start to look at locking away some key guys who come out of contract in 2019 given that most of the rest of the guys not contracted past 2018 are players that the club will make decisions about after the first half of the year.

Seriously though, isn't going to be nice just to concentrate on footy this year? At a Big Footy level, especially?

I think itll help the club as well.

They are professional and everything but that whole episode last year would of been off putting.

Clear air, besides whinging about start up concessions when we are destroying sides, will be nice.

So my views on the remaining OOC players are

    Cumming 2 years
Keefe zero games = zero extension
    Simpson 1 year
    Finlayson 2 Years
    Griffen retire
Tiziani 1 year if he shows signs of improvement
    Mohr retire

Daily telegraph article on Davis' resigning also mentions that Cummings has signed for 2 more years as well.

Although it also says that Davis joined us from the Bulldogs

All I want now is TOJ to re-sign from this years' OOC list and I'm ecstatic!

I agree - but reckon TOJ would be hoping to play some games and drive his contract price up, so may wait a bit. Good news on Cumming though. Everyone else we can wait & see without any concerns.

Can we extend McCartney as well?

    Off to a good start.

He has reached a point where he can focus on extending some of next years OOC players! Everyone left has something to prove at this stage

Good to see the important player contracts signed before the season starts and I can see it being a good sign for the team at the club and the AFL writers will need to find some topics for articles for the season although the easy target will be the Suns Lynch
The remainder of the 2018 contracts would be near the end of the season or post season as I can't see any opposition clubs interested in any of the players
Plenty of contracts for 2019 to be worked out and I hope a few of the important ones are signed before the end of the year as it would be a good sign for the club
